(Seguin) -- One man is dead, and two others were hospitalized following a major crash early Wednesday morning at the intersection of State Highway 123 Bypass and Interstate 10.
According to Stephanie Larrimore, the Seguin Police Department’s community engagement officer, emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at approximately 6:36 a.m. after reports of a serious collision involving multiple vehicles.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that a white Hino straight truck traveling westbound on IH 10 left the roadway and fell onto the northbound lanes of State Highway 123 Bypass,” stated Larrimore. “The truck struck a gray sedan and then landed on a red sedan, both traveling northbound.”
The driver of the truck and the driver of the gray sedan were taken to area hospitals for treatment. The driver of the red sedan, identified as Anthony Stephenson, 63,of Seguin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The intersection was temporarily closed while officers investigated and cleared the area.
Larrimore said the Seguin Police Department’s Traffic Unit continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
(Seguin) -- Guadalupe County residents are getting another chance to clear out unwanted clutter this weekend during the county’s Bulk Clean-up Event. The free service is scheduled for Saturday, October 25, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Road & Bridge Department located just south of the Guadalupe County Jail in Seguin. Event, pg. 3

(Seguin) -- Mooooove over breakfast tacos. that’s because Seguin is finally getting its “EAT MOR CHIKIN” moment. After months of anticipation, Seguin’s first-ever Chick-fil-A opens its doors
today (Thursday, Oct. 23) at 6:30 a.m.
The new restaurant is located at 1650 C.H. Matthies Drive, along the I-10 frontage road next to Bill Miller’s BBQ. Tips, pg. 3

Children’s show to include pair of public performances
Cindy Aguirre-Herrera
(Seguin) -- The stage today at Seguin High School will come alive with magic carpets and genies as students prepare to open their production of Aladdin Jr. The first performance will be a special showing for Seguin ISD’s elementary and Pre-K students.
Lydia Robles, theatre director and fine arts has always reported that the fall production is a tradition that gives younger audiences a chance to experience live theatre up close.
This year’s production follows the beloved Disney tale of Aladdin, a “diamond in the rough” who discovers a magic
lamp and is granted three wishes by a larger-than-life genie. Along the way, Aladdin must find the courage to be himself and win the heart of Princess Jasmine while outsmarting the scheming royal advisor, Jafar.
Robles says knowing they’ll perform for the younger students gives the cast and crew an extra spark of motivation to perfect every song, dance, and scene.
Public performances will be held at 7 p.m. today and at 2 p.m. Saturday in the SHS Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $8 online or $12 at the door. There is no cost for kids ages 5 and under.
Tips, continued.
Owner and operator Weillen Garduno-Hernandez says although her team is ready for the rush, she is asking customers to not only pack a little patience but to also take advantage of the restaurant’s ordering technology.
“Our outer lane will be strictly for mobile orders so if there is anyone who is in a rush or who wants to know, ‘OK, how do I skip this line?’ -- because we are anticipating a long line—place a mobile order,” said Garduno-Hernandez. “Go through the drive-thru, come inside, or use
one of our five designated parking spots. There are so many venues where you can order ahead and skip the ordering process. I’ll place a big emphasis on our Mobile Thru—it’s super simple.”
She adds that guests should download the Chick-fil-A app ahead of time to make the most of their visit.
“Just place a mobile order, check in when you’re here, and go through the drive thru. We’ll have people out there making sure our guests are good to go. I know it’s going to be crazy and hectic, but if guests are looking to order ahead or get a quick lunch, the mobile app works
really well for that,” said GardunoHernandez.
Now for those who have a little time to spare, the owner encourages customers to come inside and check out Seguin’s new restaurant. She says along with inside dining, they offer an outdoor patio and playscape.
The restaurant will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and closed on Sundays, in keeping with Chick-fil-A tradition.
With large crowds expected, the Seguin Police Department will be on hand to help manage traffic throughout the day.

Event, continued.
The event provides residents with a free and convenient way to properly dispose of large or difficultto-manage household items -- a service county officials say helps keep neighborhoods cleaner and safer.
To ensure a smooth flow of traffic, county officials say vehicles must enter the site from North Austin Street. They will then turn into North Guadalupe Street, about a half mile north of IH-10 near Tellus Equipment Solutions. County staff will be on hand to direct drivers through the unloading area at the Road & Bridge Central Yard before exiting all vehicles onto the IH-10 Frontage Road.
To participate, county residents are asked to bring a photo ID or utility bill showing a Guadalupe County address. Organizers also recommend separating tires in
advance from other materials in vehicles or trailers to help speed up unloading.
Only trailers up to 12 feet in length will be accepted. Dump or commercial trailers will not be permitted. Items accepted include but not limited to furniture, household appliances, scrap metal, dry paint, ceramic toilets in a cardboard box and up to 4 tires less than 19.5” without rims.
While most things will be allowed, there are things that will not be collected. Among those items are hazardous waste, brush, dead livestock, junk vehicles, boats, fencing, sheds, and hazardous materials like antifreeze, oil, liquid paints and items with gasoline.
A detailed list of acceptable and prohibited items can be found on the county’s website at www.guadalupetx. gov/page/roads.trash_disposal.

She’s the ‘hype man.’ She has energy,” Farris said. “Gisele is our commander on the floor. She’s been doing that for several years. I’m hard on her, but she holds herself accountable and to a higher level. And then Mia, she’s such a utility player. She was on the outside last year and now she’s in a (deep setter) role. She’s another
selfless person who does what’s best for the team.”

(Undated) -- A new coalition has been formed with the goal of bringing quality, affordable health care services to one and a half billion people worldwide by year 2030. The Health Works Leaders Coalition is comprised of The World Bank Group, the Government of Japan, and the World Health Organization. The goal is to promote investments in health systems as a strategy for economic growth and job creation. Officials say some of the priorities include free health checkups and expansion of health insurance in Indonesia, and developing a pharmaceutical strategy in Mexico.
(Undated) -- A new poll finds nearly one out of ten preschoolers and toddlers rarely play outside. Researchers say playing outside can improve children’s mental and physical health. The University of Michigan Health C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital poll shows nearly half of parents hold their child’s hand or sit right next to them when their child is trying a new physical challenge. Poll Co-Director Sarah Clark says parents who allow a little more independence often see their child’s confidence flourish.
(Undated) -- Health experts say finger and toenails could possibly tell something about your health. Doctor Neha Vyas, a family medicine physician at Cleveland Clinic says changes to the nails could mean vitamin deficiency, injury or a more serious issue like anxiety or melanoma. Healthy nails are usually smooth and all the same color. She says nail biting linked to anxiety can cause brittle nails while a dark, vertical streak may be a sign of nail melanoma. Vyas recommends regularly inspect fingernails and toenails for any changes and to report changes to the doctor.
(Undated) -- Popular weight loss drugs like Ozempic and Zepbound are also helping folks with sleep apnea. Researchers reported at a meeting of the American College of Chest Physicians that those with Type 2 diabetes taking the drugs were less likely to die within the following year but patients in a study with sleep apnea did even better. Researchers looked at data on more than one and a half million patients with type 2 diabetes and over a quarter of them were prescribed weight loss drugs. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration last year approved Zepbound as the first drug to treat sleep apnea in adults with obesity.
