(Seguin) -- The Davila family legacy of good food and community spirit is taking on a new chapter -- a chapter that honors the past while investing in the future.
Adrian Davila, thirdgeneration pitmaster and owner of Davila’s BBQ, has announced the launch of the Raul & Geronima Davila Foundation. The foundation is created in honor of his grandparents and their lifelong dedication to hard work, family, and faith.
The foundation’s inaugural event, La Cosecha -- Spanish for “The (October)Harvest” -- will be held this Saturday, October 25. Davila says he specifically designed the dinner event to be under the stars along West Kingsbury Street, just outside Davila’s BBQ.
Davila says the foundation’s first fundraiser, a world-class
cuisine, will benefit Seguin High School’s agricultural science program. He says money raised will go to help students purchase a livestock trailer for the new Seguin ISD Agri-science center being built just outside of town.
Davila says he will be partnering with neighboring businesses and sponsors to transform the area outside his restaurant into an elegant, openair venue -- a setting he describes as the “perfect place to celebrate Seguin’s spirit of community.”
The featured component of the event is of course the food.
Davila says he’s teaming up with acclaimed Chef Edgar Chávez of Rosewood Mayakoba in Playa del Carmen. The two first cooked together several years ago in Mexico, and this time, he says Chávez will join him in Seguin for what he promises BBQ, pg. 3

(Seguin) – Now at forty years strong and still growing, Buck Fever will again be celebrating and supporting the great outdoors. Buck Fever returns this week for its 40th annual celebration at the Seguin Coliseum.
Buck Fever President Rodney Bargfrede says what began decades ago as a small gathering of local hunters has evolved into one of Seguin’s most anticipated fall traditions.
“It’s hard to believe that we have been around that long and that some of the founding fathers -- they still participate in the show even. I was talking to a few of them the other day and they say it’s hard to believe that something they started that far back would still continue on and be as successful and growing like it is,” said Bargfrede.
The two-day event officially kicks off today with “Kids Night.” Bargfrede says Kids Night is a community favorite that offers free admission for all students 18 and under.
“We are going to have a scavenger hunt throughout the night and also starting at 7 p.m., Gator Country will be coming to put on a show and then we have the pellet gun shoot, archery shoot, petting zoo, fishing tank – a lot of things for the kids to do,” said Bargfrede.
Bargfrede says the fun continues Thursday with the spotlight turning to the Horns Contest, the heart of the

Buck Fever tradition. He says here hunters will showcase their prize whitetail deer from the previous season. The contest will recognize top entries in 14 different categories, with first through third place prizes awarded.
He says Thursday night will also be filled with a number of fun activities including the announcement of the 30-gun raffle and bucket drop raffle winners. This year’s event will also welcome a record number of vendors.
Buck Fever will be held today from 5:30 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students. There is no cost for kids six and under. Again, all kids 18 and under are free on Wednesday.
Special by Tracy Donley, TLU director of communications and content
(Seguin) -- Members of the Bulldog Investment Company have visited the Rotary Clubs of both Seguin and Cuero this fall, to talk about what the organization does and all that it offers to TLU students.
Founded back in 2009 by TLU alum Dave Sather ’89, BIC is an oncampus internship program that welcomes not only business students, but students of all majors, who want to learn how to interpret financial statements.
“We live in a world that is constantly under assault from people
questioning whether a college degree is worthwhile. They also want to know how people will remain relevant in the world of Artificial Intelligence,” said Sather. “Given these challenges, presentations of this nature reinforce that a college degree is still highly valuable.”
Logan Arciba and Pablo Samanez, both grad students in business administration and accounting, and Enrique Alvarado, a senior majoring in business administration and business analytics, represented BIC, offering a presentation about the
organization and fielding questions from their audiences.
TLU President Dr. Debbie Cottrell was on hand to introduce them at the Seguin club, where several TLU connections were on hand, including Regent Brad Webb. “Pablo, Enrique, and Logan knocked it out of the park today!” Cottrell said. “The presentation was great, and they handled lots and lots of questions from financially savvy Rotarians! Thanks so much for making me one very proud president!” Clubs, pg. 3

to be an unforgettable culinary experience.
“This definitely is a rare occasion. So, Chef Edgar Chavez -- he is the executive chef of Rosewood Mayakoba and if you do any research on that resort, you know it’s an ultra-luxury resort in the manner that it is very private. He leads a team that carries high standards of food in their banquets and everything they do. They do this wonderful meal, communal meal that they do and what that encompasses – it’s an experience and it’s nice but the focus is using local ingredients – very relatable -- but beautiful food,” said Davila.
He says after he and his father Edward were treated to Chavez’s hospitality, he has always been hopeful to bring this unique collaboration to Seguin. He says guests will enjoy an inspired menu that celebrates harvest season with a Mexican coastal flair. He says among the menu items will be street corn, artichoke ceviche, tomato salad, shrimp with Axiote, and ribeye crusted with ashes.
“But from the time you walk in, there will be cocktails and wine and other refreshments. You will be greeted with an hors d’oeuvre of several choices,” said Davila.
Of course, dessert will also be served for a sweet finish. It will include creamy corn mousse and toasted corn ice cream with crispy epazote.
Davila says the event marks a proud full-circle
Clubs, continued.
“As we experience more and more innovations from technology, it still requires humans to understand the data and be able to explain to others why and how the data or story matters,” said Sather. “Getting to deliver the process and results to groups of professionals like the Rotary Club, but before paychecks are on the line, is key to developing competency. It is equally important to be able to answer questions from a variety of viewpoints and industry professionals.”
The Cuero Rotary Club’s social media post proclaimed, “These students from the Texas Lutheran University are poised to reach far!”
Sather agrees. “Experiences like these are more valuable than reading 100 textbooks.”

moment for the family business. He says what began as a small barbecue stand in 1959 has grown into a symbol of Seguin’s culinary and cultural heritage — and now, through the Raul & Geronima Davila Foundation, he says the second and third generations are doing what the first could have only dreamed of.
Tickets to the event are $100 per person. Tickets

(Seguin) -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs welcome Austin College to Seguin for homecoming on the TLU campus this Saturday.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 50-48 win over Hendrix College this past Saturday. The game went back-and-forth at the end. The Warriors took the lead on a 78-yard touchdown pass with 31 seconds left. TLU then used all of those 31 seconds to advance to the Hendrix four-yard line with no time on the clock.
The Bulldogs got an untimed down following a pass interference call and scored when quarterback Reece Deitrick rolled right and hit receiver Ja’Mare Nichols just across the goal line to win the game. The TD capped a 62-yard drive.
TLU head coach Neal LaHue talked about the drive which included a big
catch by receiver Lavonta Henry.
“We had a last-second play there or what we call a two-point play, and we went with it, and it worked,” LaHue said. “It was a great job of executing all the way down. The (offensive) line gave the quarterback a lot of time. Reece made some good throws, and Lavonta made a great catch. He got flipped upside down; he did a great job.”
The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with the win. They will play their final home game of the season this Saturday against SCAC foe Austin College at homecoming.
The game will kick off at 4 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium on Saturday. You’ll be able to hear the game on KWED. Our TLU football pregame starts at 3:30 Saturday afternoon on AM 1580 and streaming at SeguinToday.com.
