INTRODUCTION

Work immersion is one of the course requirements for graduation of the Senior High School students ofBrokenshire College Toril mandated by the Department of Education following the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum. They must undergo Work Immersion in an industry that directly relates to the student’s post-secondary goal. The focus of Work Immersion is to expose students and become familiar with the work-related environment related to their field of specialization to enhance competence. Since this is the first time the students have been exposed to the work environment, they are expected to take note of the: (i) gain relevant and practical industrial skills under the guidance of industry experts and workers; (ii) appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories taught in school; (iii) enhance their technical knowledge and skills; (iv) enrich their skills in communications and human relations; and (v) develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation, and respect for work. This module contains the rationale, scope, definition of terms, objectives, principles and policy statement, course description, work immersion delivery models, duties and responsibilities of personnel, and course content. It has assessment, monitoring, and evaluation to monitor students’ progress.

One of the goals of the K+12 Basic Education Program is to develop in learners the competencies, work ethics, and values relevant to pursuing further education and/or joining the world of work. To achieve greater congruence between basic education and the nation’s development targets, Work Immersion, a required subject has been incorporated into the curriculum. This subject will provide learners with opportunities:

2. For employment simulation; and

3. To apply their competencies to areas of specialization/applied subjects in authentic work environments.

REFLECTIVE ESSAY ON PRE-IMMERSION ORIENTATION

As a work immersion student I learned that the work Immersion Orentation provided valuable insights into workplace standards and behaviors, enhancing the students understanding of professionalism, clear communication, flexibility. problem-solving skills, and work ethics. The gained knowledge and abilities are expected to contribute to success during and after the job immersion.

For students participating in job immersion, punctuality is crucial. Being on time for work, meetings, and duties is a sign of punctuality. It shows consideration for superiors, coworkers, and other people's important time. Work immersion students demonstrate their dedication to completing their tasks and help the barangay office run smoothly by arriving on time. Additionally. being on time creates a good impression on the pupils and sets the tone for the day. Another important requirments for work immersion students is professionalism. It includes all aspects of actions and mindsets that demonstrate a high standard of professionalism in the workplace. This means following by ethical norms, acting with positivity and respect for coworkers and superiors, and dressing appropriately in compliance with the dress code of the work place. Together with assuming responsibility for duties assigned, being accountable, and aiming for excellence in every area of work, professionalism also entails these behaviors. As barangay policies is set of a student pursuing job immersion, following rules and regulations. Students participating in work immersion programs are expected to read over these policies and follow them to the letter. This entails adhering to procedures for managing private data, honoring privacy laws, and upholding confidentiality when necessary. Work immersion students contribute to a peaceful and orderly work environment by following barangay policies. Students participating in working immersion programs are expected to demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and adherence to barangay standards. Work immersion students can have a good influence throughout their immersion experience, acquire useful skills and information, and lay a solid foundation for their future employment by meeting these expectations and duties. In a barangay office, efficient communication is crucial for staff to share ideas, coordinate tasks, and relay information accurately. Open communication fosters collaborations prevents misunderstandings, and ensures everyone works toward common goals. Effective communication helps resolve Community complaints, provide accurate information, and maintain operational transparency. Teamwork among office workers, utilizing diverse skills and experiences, is essential for offering comprehensive services to the community. This collaboration also builds relationships and cultivates a positive work culture. Problem-solving abilities are vital, addressing various community issues and challenges, improving resident's quality of life. Adaptability allows the

2

office to handle unexpected situations and Incorporate innovative techniques, staying relevant and serving the community effectively. Professionalism, including treating people with respect, upholding moral principles, and maintaining confidentiality, builds credibility and trust in the community. Strong work ethics, encompassing responsibility, accountability, honesty, and dedication, are essential for the office's smooth and effective operation, gaining the community's trust.

In summary, through work immersion orientation, the work immersion students were progressively introduced to the extent of their disciplines at a barangay office. Overall, a few key topics were underscored: punctuality, professionalism, following barangay policies, teamwork, problem-solving, thorough approaches, and conduct. Cultivating such traits during their immersion at barangay may influence the level of success when students venture into the job market.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE PARTNER INSTITUTION

In the past years, Japanese owned most of the land or haciendas surrounding Toril. At that time there was a poor means of transportation. The only way is by using horses and carabaos. Before reaching Toril, people from the highlands will pass or cross the Lipadas River. Everyone knows that the carabaos can’t endure the heat of the sun in traveling; therefore, before carabaos could continue its trip, they will be taken to the river to allow, in Visayan term, “Lubog” to enjoy the coldness of the water. Upon returning home, the same things happen. That ishow“Lubogan”gotits name.

The first Barangay Hall was erected at Purok 2 way back in the 80’s and the said lot was donated by the late Alfonso Ortega Gerbolingo and family. Years later it was converted into Day Care Center and transferred the Barangay Hall at Purok 4-B.

During the time of Pres. Carlos Garcia in 1960, Cipriano Batulan was elected as the first Teniente Del Barrio through Viva voce. He won the Barrio election in January 14, 1962 for another two-year terms. It was Pres. Diosgaldo Macapagal time when he won the position of being a Barangay leader. In January 19, 1964, Cipriano Batulan won again and served for another four years under the amendments of Congress to extend the term of office as well as the compositions of the council from four to six members.

WEEKLY JOURNAL

Week 1

During the first day of our work immersion, we were endorsed by the assigned teacher to the supervisor. After the endorsement, I was assigned to the health center. The task that was given to me was to keep a log book of every clients who gets their medicine, blood pressure, weight, and height in the barangay health center. I sometimes get confused by their actions and words. I experienced a lot during my first week at the barangay health center. Within a week of work immersion, I just do it over and over again, just like the one where the health center is quiet and then suddenly there are more people inside the center, it will be quiet again. Another thing that I have experienced is sometimes confusion with the drugs because the name is the same, so I thought it was just a different color, but the dosage was the same; it turned out to be a different color, a different dosage. It's also been my experience to encounter a client with a bad attitude, like the way she or he talks to the health center staff. But I let it go because if we have the same attitude, we won't have a good conversation. I also experienced being close to people who I had just met for a short period of time and had a good connection with. My achievement is that within this week, I slowly memorized the medicine dosage, name, where it was placed, and what the use of that kind of medicine was. Also, I counted this as one of my achievements: I now know how to read a manual scale. Before I get confused, because there are too many lines, after all the experiences I encountered and the achievements I make, I just realized that life is not as simple as it looks. If you go to a barangay or any establishment and see them doing their work, it may look easy, but once you experience it, you will know it's not that easy.

6

Week 2

During my second week of work immersion in barangay Lubogan, which is way easier for me, I have become closer to the staff at the health center. I experienced a lot during my second week at the barangay health center. Every day, I met different kinds of people dealing with different attitudes. When it's not too busy or they don't ask me to do anything at the health center, I ask if I can go to the daycare first so I can help my partner there. One of my other experiences was when I decided to help at daycare. The environment at daycare is very different because, as usual, it is noisy, crowded, and happy, unlike at the health center, where the silence is deafening and there is not much work when there is no program. At daycare, it's a lot, but it's fun. When I started helping at the daycare, I got to know the different habits of the children there. What we do there is guide the students on what to do. The tireless dancing and singing will not disappear. Since I stayed at the daycare, I have memorized the routine. My help at the daycare is an addition to my experience. I also experienced being close to people who I had just met for a short period of time and had a good connection with. The challenge that I encountered during my second week of work immersion was when there was a flag ceremony of functionaries and staff in a ward that I was assigned to get their BP. It was okay at first, but when the number of people increased, we had a bit of a problem. I'm also with me because the machine we use is only two, and it takes us a long time when the BP we take is high. I have already done an interview, so they don't have to wait for us for a long time. Reflecting on my enriching experience during work immersion, I encountered various challenges while working in both a daycare and a health center. Despite the hurdles, I embraced each obstacle as an opportunity to learn and grow, developing resilience and a deeper understanding of the vital roles these settings play in fostering well-being.
