HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE PARTNER INSTITUTION
Brokenshire College of Toril is the fruit of the labors, commitment and dedication of people whose noble intention is to carry on the ministry of the United Church of Christ through quality education.
The year 2003 marked the foundation year of the institution when on May 12, 2003, the Boards of trustees of Brokenshire College and Toril UCCP Learning Center Inc. (TULCI) agreed to continue the educational venture in the Toril community through Brokenshire College Toril. The agreement was made to ensure that the educational venture would remain within and a part of the educational ministry of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP).
The board of trustees of Brokenshire College tasked Rev. Ermelinda B. Villegas to manage the Toril Campus while the registration of a new school under the Brokenshire College system was being processed. Rev. Villegas sought reforms and furthered the development of the Lubogan campus. She was later appointed as the first Chief Executive Officer of Brokenshire CollegeToril Davao City, Inc. Her service officially started in the SY 2003-2004.
On July 31, 2003, Brokenshire College Toril was officially registered under the Securities and Exchange Commission as a non-stock and non-profit organization.
In the school year 2004-2005, the Toril campus was officially renamed as “Brokenshire College Toril, Davao City Inc”.
Brokenshire College Toril, Davao City Inc. became an extension Campus of the BS Nursing program, Information Technology and Bachelor in Elementary Education of Brokenshire College (Main Campus) from June 2004 until 2012.
Furthermore, Brokenshire College Toril in partnership with Broadlink @ IRC performed the leg working and marketing for the Computer Literacy Program of the school. This course covers only fifteen Sunday sessions on Basic Computer Operations and Applications. The first batch of the program had produced 99 students who received their certificates of completion during the culmination on November 30, 2008.
Although a young member of the education industry, BCT had undergone a process of upgrading its quality in terms of education and services to its stakeholders in 2013. The school was visited and inspected by the members of the Association of Christian School Colleges and Universities Accrediting Agency Inc. in February 2013. The purpose of the initial accreditation was to assess school’s standards of processes and operations. BCT then received commendation for being one of the youngest educational institutions to pursue accreditation.

On March 21, 2013, the groundbreaking of the chapel happened with the faculty and staff, students and board of trustees as witnesses. The need to build the chapel was successfully responded to since Brokenshire College Toril is a Christian-imbued institution.
By the SY 2014-2015, BCT was under the management of a new directress Rev. Hidita C. Villas.
In February 2015, BCT was revisited and inspected by the members of the Association of Christian School Colleges and Universities Accrediting Agency Inc. And finally, on April 24, 2015, ACSCU-AAI awarded Brokenshire College Toril with LEVEL 1 Accreditation.
In the same year, the school continued its progress. It continued to offer programs in Pre-School, Elementary, High School, Computer Literacy Program and Caregiving course under the leadership of the School Principal – Mr. Enrico Abo.
In sync with the national implementation of the Senior High School program, the school established its SHS department in SY 2016-2017 offering academic (ABM, HUMSS, STEM) and technical vocational livelihood tracks. The school has since been one of the educational institutions in Toril with most number of SHS students.
The SY 2017-2018 marked another significant layer in the school’s culture of excellence as ACSCU-ACI, after re-visitation to and re-assessment of the school’s operations, upgraded its accreditation status to level 2 – a rare feat for an institution below 20 years old. It was also in the same school year when the Research office was re-established.
Today, Brokenshire College Toril, Davao City Inc. continues to serve and grow in becoming a premier institution by offering quality 21st century education coupled with Christian values faith, service, servant leadership and responsible stewardship in Pre-School, Elementary, Junior High School and Senior High School under the leadership of the School Head – Mrs. Cherrie N. Paniamogan.

WEEKLY JOURNAL
Week 1
Today marked the beginning of my work immersion journey, and I was determined to make the most out of it. Arriving 15 minutes early, I eagerly took on the responsibility of distributing forms and IDs assigned by Sir Al. Despite being new to the environment, I quickly adapted and participated in filling out the necessary paperwork by 10:00 a.m. The orientation session led by Sir Marvin provided valuable insights into the immersion process. I learned about the expectations, rules, and regulations of the workplace, which helped me understand my role better. This orientation was crucial as it set the foundation for a successful immersion experience. I was then designated to the senior high school department, where I embraced my first task of monitoring the teacher's attendance sheet after lunch. This task required attention to detail and promptness, ensuring that the records were accurate and up to date. It also allowed me to familiarize myself with the daily operations of the department and interact with the teaching staff.
During my immersion with Ma'am Analiza's Practical Research 1 class, I had the opportunity to learn about various topics such as identifying qualitative research problems, understanding the difference between a research problem and a research question, and crafting research statements for qualitative research. Although these topics were familiar from my 11th grade, delving deeper into them during the immersion provided a more comprehensive understanding.
One of the challenges I faced during my immersion was the nervousness I felt when asked to present practical research topics to the students. It was my first time reporting in different classes and grade levels, which initially made me apprehensive. However, I decided to embrace the challenge and took the initiative to present during one of Ma'am Analiza's classes in Section Felicity. Despite my initial nerves, I managed to complete the report successfully.
Reflecting on this experience in my journal, I acknowledged the importance of adaptability and confidence in facing new challenges. It was a valuable learning experience that taught me the significance of proactively seeking opportunities to expand my knowledge and skills. Additionally, it helped me recognize my strengths and weaknesses as an intern, allowing me to grow professionally.
During the first week of work immersion, I had to get used to my assigned tasks and adjust to the new environment. Initially, it was uncomfortable, especially encountering unexpected experiences. However, these challenges have shaped me into who I am today as an intern. Despite the nervous feelings, I managed to complete my tasks successfully. This experience reinforced the importance of
7
perseverance and adaptability, highlighting my growth and development throughout the immersion program.
Reflecting on my immersion experience, I realized that challenges are inevitable but can be overcome with determination and a positive mindset. This experience helped me develop valuable skills such as time management, communication, and teamwork, which are essential for success in any professional setting.
In conclusion, my work immersion journey has been enriching and rewarding. I have learned valuable lessons, faced challenges head-on, and grown both personally and professionally. I am grateful for this opportunity, and I look forward to applying the skills and knowledge gained during my immersion in future endeavors.

Week 2
In the second week of my work immersion, I felt a sense of relief after completing my report for Section Felicity. Without specific instructions from Ma'am Analiza, I took the initiative to continue observing her classes. Additionally, I maintained my responsibility of monitoring the teacher attendance sheet to ensure I was aware of their schedules.
One notable experience occurred during Ma'am Analiza's class in Section Reverence, where she had a two-hour session including practical research. Before entering the class, I diligently monitored the teacher attendance for the 7:30 to 8:30 schedule. From 7:50 to 8:30, I attentively observed the class and listened to Ma'am Analiza's lessons. Briefly at 8:30, I stepped out to check the attendance sheet for the 8:30 to 9:30 schedule, returning promptly to continue assisting with the class until 9:30. Serving in this capacity was overwhelming yet rewarding, as I encountered different student attitudes and behaviors within each section.
One particularly memorable instance was during my observation in Ma'am Analiza's class in Section Gratitude. Ma'am Analiza had to leave abruptly, entrusting me to lead the class and manage the students while collecting their performance task outputs. This experience tested my adaptability and leadership skills, reinforcing the importance of professionalism and effective communication.
Overall, my work immersion experience has provided me with valuable insights into classroom dynamics and teaching responsibilities. By taking initiative, demonstrating adaptability, and maintaining professionalism, I aim to continue learning and contributing during my time at the company.
As my work immersion drew to a close, I encountered new challenges and experiences that further enriched my learning journey. On the second to last day, Ma'am Analiza entrusted me with presenting her class in Section Reverence due to her absence for a research event. This opportunity filled me with happiness, excitement, and confidence as I eagerly stepped into the role of a student teacher. The warm reception from the students, who encouraged me to introduce myself and treated me with respect, made me feel appreciated and welcomed. It was a gratifying experience to lead the class and demonstrate my capability without a senior present. Additionally, their use of respectful language and seeking permission before leaving further emphasized their appreciation and respect.
On the final day of my work immersion, I felt a mix of excitement and nostalgia as I reflected on the valuable experiences gained throughout the journey. Without the need to monitor teacher attendance, I focused on completing tasks assigned by Ma'am Analiza. This included recording the performance tasks of all sections she handled in the practical research class.
9
Later, all interns were instructed to gather in the library as DepEd officials monitored classroom preparations for the upcoming NAT exam. After lunch, I continued with my tasks, utilizing the free time to update my journal.
In the afternoon, Ma'am Cristina and my fellow intern Owen assigned us tasks related to managing the examination for students in Section Reverence. Despite having completed over 60 hours of duty, I embraced the challenge wholeheartedly. We efficiently conducted the examination, recorded scores, and reported back to Ma'am Abegail before concluding the day's activities.
As I bid farewell to my work immersion experience, I felt a sense of fulfillment and gratitude for the knowledge gained, the challenges overcome, and the relationships formed. These experiences have not only enhanced my understanding of the workplace but have also contributed to my personal and professional growth.
