local rules

Local Rules

General

USGA rules and Seabrook Island Club rules will govern all play.

No play zones

These areas exist on holes 15 and 16 on Ocean Winds. These penalty areas are marked with red or yellow stakes with green tops, but the contours of the hazards do not necessarily conform to a straight line between the stakes. To further define the hazard boundaries, it must be inferred that the line of the hazard should conform to the unmown grass or vegetation that is approximately between the hazard stakes. Play from within the No Play Zone is prohibited. If the ball lies within the No Play Zone, the player must take a penalty stroke and proceed under Rule 17.1. If the ball does not lie within the No Play Zone, but the player must stand in that area to play the next stroke, he must take relief (without penalty) no closer to the hole such that the stroke may be played without standing in the No Play Zone.

Alternate to stroke and distance

When a player’s ball cannot be found or is thought to be out of bounds, the player may proceed as follows and apply two penalty strokes: take relief by dropping their ball in an area between:

(a) the point where the ball is believed to have come to rest (if lost) or crossed the out-of-bounds line (if OB) and

(b) a point established by moving laterally to the edge of the fairway of the hole being played, within 2 club lengths of the edge of the rough but not nearer the hole (see Rule 14.3).

3

Sprinkler Heads close to putting greens

Relief from interference by an abnormal course condition (immovable obstruction) may be taken under Rule 16.1. In addition, if a ball lies off the putting green but not in a penalty area and an abnormal course condition on or within two club lengths of the putting green and two club lengths of the ball intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole, the player may take relief as follows:

The ball must be lifted and dropped at the nearest point to where the ball lay that:

(a) is not nearer the hole

(b) avoids intervention and

(c) is not in a penalty area of on a putting green

The ball may be cleaned when lifted

Ocean winds #15 tee shot

A drop area is available on #15 as an additional option for balls hit into the fronting penalty area.

Crooked oaks #18 tee shot

A drop zone is available across the bridge on the right for all balls deemed to be lost in the penalty area right of the fairway. For balls lost in the frontal pond off the tee, players must re-tee.

Crooked oaks #13 tee shot

A drop area is located just left of the cart path as an additional option for ball hit in the penalty area

Tournament Format

tournament format

Rounds 1 - 5, Four Ball Match Play (better ball of partners) with five 9-hole matches.

Teamsflightedbyhandicap

Handicapsassignedbythecommitteeusing90%asthebasis

Scoring - one point per hole plus one point for winning the match. Ten points areavailablepermatch-7pointsmaximum.

Handicaps for the tournament have been calculated using the USGA handicap system.

AllquestionsregardinghandicapsshallbereferredtotheHandicapCommittee. In each match, the handicaps of all four players shall be reduced by the handicap of the low-handicap player, who shall then play at scratch. Half strokes will be allocated. Note: A half-stroke can break, but not make, a tie. Strokes will be marked on the card and allocated according to the difficulty of thenineholesbeingplayed.

ClosesttothepincontestswillbeheldoneachPar3duringmatches1-4.

Ties - In the event of a tie for first or second place in a flight, the winning team will be determined by the outcome of said team’s head-to-head match. If the head-to-head match is halved, then sudden death hole-by-hole scores will determine the winner beginning with the first hole of the match. If either team wins no hole outright, a chip-off among the four players will decide the winner. Theteamwiththeballclosesttotheholeshallbedeclaredthewinner.

Tardiness - If one player on a team is not ready to start his match on time, his partner must proceed without him playing against the better ball of the opponents. The tardy player may join the match at the start of any unplayed hole after it has begun. Rejoining the match applies to a player leaving the courseduringtheplayofamatch.

WeatherDelay

In case of lightning or “unplayable” course conditions, play will be suspended with one loud, 15-second blast from the on-course horns. Players must return to the clubhouse or take safe shelter - they may completetheholethey’replayingormarkthepositionoftheirballandthen come in. Play will resume with three 5-second blasts from the on-course horns.

In the event of a complete rain-out of a match or matches on Thursday or Friday, anyholesplayedwillbescratched, andthetournamentwillcontinue asscheduled.

tournament championship

All Flight Winners plus the top Flight Runner-up Team(s) (based on total points) will compete in a modified one-hole elimination shootout from the 18th fairway of Ocean Winds. This format allows all participants and spouses to watch the entire playoff. Handicaps will be converted to yardage: 0 – 9 green tees @ 160 yards; 10 – 19 black tees @ 150 yards; 20 and above white tees @ 140 yards.

The format will be an alternate shot, and one team will be eliminated in each round. The final round will be a 2 player shamble.

Ties will be broken with a blind chip-off.
