The purpose of SILGA is to provide competitive, social, educational, and philanthropic opportunities for our members. Moreover, SILGA was formed to encourage, support, and promote women’s golf and to always inspire good sportsmanship and congeniality among its golfers.
SILGA membership provides Seabrook Island Club (SIC) lady golfers opportunities to participate in our weekly competitive 18-hole golf events, and 9 and 18-hole casual golf events. In addition, SILGA members are eligible to play in CALGA and Interclub Tournaments as well as Special Events, Scrambles, and other Tournaments scheduled throughout the year. We are fortunate to have over 200 members, at various skill levels, who love and enjoy this great game.
All SIC lady Members are invited to join SILGA once they have a USGA handicap index. If you don’t have an index or GHIN number, please contact the Pro Shop and they will assist you It is easy to establish a handicap index, as you only need to play and post a total of 54 holes (any combination of 9 or 18-hole rounds) into your GHIN account and a handicap index will be issued the very next day.
SILGA membership dues are collected annually and are used to support SILGA events, pay out awards, and make appropriate donations. The annual membership fee of $35.00 is billed by the Pro Shop to each member's SIC account at the beginning of each calendar year, or when you join SILGA. Since the fee is minimal, it is not pro-rated for members who join mid-year.
To help SILGA members keep current on activities, each Friday SILGA sends an e-blast. This must- read communication provides details on our weekly scheduled games, upcoming events and Tournaments, results from prior events, as well as special announcements. Members can also find out about and sign up for Ladies Golf Events on the SIC website or app.
SILGA members must maintain an active, current USGA handicap Index. The Pro Shop will post all USGA applicable tournament and SILGA event scores, but each golfer is responsible to post all other postable scores. Note you can not post scores from scrambles, alternate shot, practice (hitting multiple balls) or solo play (no witness). You must play at least 9 holes for a score to be postable for handicap purposes. When posting a score on the GHIN app or website, players have the option to post a 9-hole score, an 18-hole score, or 10-17- hole score. If playing 10-17 holes, the USGA requires you to post the hole by hole scores for the holes you played. You will leave the holes blank if you did not play them This type of posting allows the USGA to calculate the Score Differential for the holes you played and an expected Score Differential for those holes you did not play. Please note that the SIC Handicap committee reviews members’ postings and compares them with tee sheet reservations.
The handicap system reflects your potential and enables golfers of different abilities to play and compete on a fair basis, in any format, on any course, anywhere around the world. Players with handicaps greater than 40 are welcome to play in SILGA events. However, individual handicaps will be capped at the maximum amount set forth below:
The maximum handicap allowed for Major Tournaments is 36. Note the players’ 12- month low index will be used for calculation of their handicap for Major Tournaments.
The maximum handicap allowed for all other SILGA events is 40 In Non- Major SILGA events, the player’s current index will be used for calculation of their handicap
Each Wednesday, SILGA plans an 18-hole event for its members. The Ace of the Month tournament is generally held on the first Wednesday of each month. During the remainder of the month, various challenge games are planned. After golf, players usually gather for lunch at the Club.
Weekly challenge games are planned for individual play or team play and pairings are generally in foursomes by “Like Handicap” or by “Random/ABCD” team assignment. The SILGA monthly calendar or the weekly Eblast will provide specific information on games planned. Generally, ladies may play from their tee of choice, unless otherwise communicated
An 18- hole individual low net score tournament is planned monthly and played from the Pelican Tees. Pairings are assigned in threesomes to the extent possible, by “Like Handicap ” This monthly event is considered a Major Tournament so your 12-month low handicap is used. The “Ace of the Month” title is given to the player(s) with the lowest net score. All monthly winners are invited to play in the Ace of the Year Shoot Out Tournament in December to determine the overall winner, “Ace of the Year.”
Each Tuesday the Pro Shop will email your pairings and Golf Genius log-in for Wednesday play. Generally, twice a month pairings will be “Like Handicap” and the other weeks “Random/ABCD” will be used. Golf Genius must be used on Wednesdays to record hole by hole scores which are automatically posted by the Pro Shop. A tournament entry fee of $7.50 is charged weekly for prize money and approximately one-third of the field is awarded Pro Shop credit
If a team has only three players instead of four, a blind draw will be assigned to complete the team. This will be determined and communicated before the game. The Blind draw player will need to putt everything out in case their ball is used for another team’s score. Blind draws are eligible for payout, but only receive the highest team placement payout for that day.
The winning players’ purse summary is available on Golf Genius following league play. New this year, each week, $1 will be collected in the pro shop from those who wish to participate in a Chip-in Pot. Whoever chips or putts in from off the green will split the pot. If no one chips in, the pot will roll over to the next week.
SILGA Nine Hole golf takes place on Thursday afternoons and is open to all SILGA members who want to play. The Pro Shop will schedule a variety of individual play and team games. The first Thursday of each month is a scramble with a short clinic before the first tee time (offered to all those on the tee sheet).Once a quarter, there will be a par 3 challenge The SILGA monthly calendar and the weekly Eblast will provide specific information on games planned.
The Pro Shop will also make pairings based on “Like Handicaps” or random draw depending on the game. Golf Genius is used to record hole by hole scores which will be automatically posted by the Pro Shop. Since there is no prize money awarded, only applicable golf fees are charged A fun social gathering usually takes place after play at Bohicket Lounge.
The Pro shop blocks off 9 and 18 hole Friday tee times for SILGA member’s use. Golf genius must be used to record hole by hole scores during play which will be automatically posted by the Pro Shop
Friday play is a great opportunity to work on your golf game and mingle with other SILGA members in a relaxed, social environment.
Please sign up directly on the SIC website or mobile app by 1 PM Tuesday for the weekly Wednesday morning games, 1 PM on Wednesday for the nine hole Thursday afternoon games, and 4 PM on Wednesday for the 9 and 18 hole Friday tee times. The evening before play, the Pro Shop will assign and email pairings and Golf Genius log-in along with any specific game details necessary to those registered.
SILGA Special Events include the Souper Bowl, Solheim Cup, Cupid Classic, Pumpkin Scramble, Staff Play Day, Mini-Member-Guest Day, and the Holiday Scramble. Events may be added or adjusted annually by the SILGA Board in coordination with the Pro Shop. You can sign up for these fun events on the SIC website or mobile app, which will also include specific event details. A tournament fee of $15 is charged for prize money for these events.
Major Tournaments are held during the year and include Ace of the Month, the Ace of the Year Shoot Out, Four-Ball Match Play and Individual Match Play. All Major Tournaments will be played from the Pelican Tees and use your 12- month low handicap. The entry fee for Match Play is $15 and the entry fee for Ace of the Month is $7 50 You can sign up for these tournaments on the SIC website or mobile app, which will also include specific tournament details. No entry fee is charged for players that qualify and are invited to play in the Ace of the Year Shoot Out.
A Non-SILGA SIC member or overnight guest of a SILGA member can sign up to play a maximum of two times annually from the list of events below, as long as they have a USGA Handicap Index. SIC members are responsible for applicable guest entry fees and golf fees.
SILGA WEDNESDAY LEAGUE PLAY

ANNUAL AWARDS – SILGA WEDNESDAY 18-HOLE GOLF
SILGA awards prizes annually in four categories:
Birdies (Gross) Ringers
Most Improved Golfer Spirit Award
ANNUAL AWARDS – SILGA THURSDAY NINE HOLERS AND FRIDAY TEE TIMES
SILGA awards prizes annually in three categories:
Birdies (Gross)
Most Improved Golfer Spirit Award
ANNUAL AWARDS DESCRIPTIONS
Ringers – Ringers are tracked in Golf Genius and each player’s best gross score on each hole for each course during SILGA weekly events is recorded. Gross Ringer awards are given for each course and represent the players with the lowest gross score for all rounds played. Net Ringer awards are given for each course by using the Gross Ringer score and subtracting the player's handicap at the time the Ringers are calculated. To be eligible for Ringer awards, a player must have recorded five rounds per course.
Birdie Awards - Birdie awards are given to players with the highest number of gross birdies made during SILGA weekly events.
Most Improved Player Award - The Most Improved Player award is determined by comparing the handicap index at the start of the period and the end of the year. The largest drop in handicap index will win the award. To be eligible for the most improved golfer award, a player must have recorded at least 10 rounds.
Spirt Award - The Spirit Award is given to the player playing the most times in SILGA weekly events during the year
