Self-care is essential for maintaining good mental and physical health. It is important to take time out of our busy schedules to nurture and care for ourselves. A self-care experience can be an enriching and rewarding way to promote relaxation, mindfulness, and overall wellbeing. This is especially true when it involves connection between yourself and a partner.. Here are some hints and tips to get the most from your experience:
Communication is key to having a relaxing and connecting experience with another person. Discuss what you like and don’t like beforehand, read through this magazine together first to discuss your thoughts and feel confident to communicate what you are
enjoying or disliking throughout.
Explore rather than follow the exact script. This is about you learning and knowing your own body. Foe example, you will feel where your body needs more focus of the dry brush or where you need to adapt pressure during the massage.
Use our guided audio to help you regulate your experience as well as telling you what to do with the products. It will remind you to stay present and focus on the mindfulness practices. The guided audio will help you to fully immerse into the experience and enjoy it to it’s fullest.
Create the right setting as this is crucial for a successful selfcare experience. Set aside some time, preferably 45-60 minutes,
to fully immerse yourself in the experience. Put on some calming background music or follow along with our guided audio to help set the mood. Turn your phone to silent and use soft lighting if possible
Set out your products in advance to help you stay present and focused on the experience. Take the bottles and jars out of the box, loosen or remove the lids while your hands are dry, and place them where they’ll be easy to reach later.
Be present and focus on the experience. It is easy to get lost in our day-to-day thoughts, but it’s important to stay present and mindful during this time. Notice the textures of the products, feel the water on your skin, and enjoy the aromas. By remaining focused on the experience, you will reap the maximum benefits of the self-care session.
Use relaxation techniques to help promote a sense of wellbeing. We have provided a guide on page 30 which we recommend reading before doing your experience.
Return your bottles and jars by packing them back into your box at the end of your experience and visit www.se-lf.co.uk to find out how to do a free return so that we can clean and steralise them for reuse.

This guide follows the same steps and principles whether you are doing it on your own or with a partner, however we have included some specific guidance for those using the box by yourselves, as parts of your body just aren’t as accessible. (These are highlighted in the pink boxes below)
If you are doing this experience with a partner, there is enough of each product for you both to take part. We recommend taking turns to do each stage and therefore complete the experience together; but you may prefer to go beginning to end, one at a time.
To set the scene, we’ve included our And Relax... Pillow & Room Mist (No.1); use this to scent your bedding, cushions and rooms. You can continue to spritz the mist throughout the experience if you wish.
Next, remove as much clothing as you feel comfortable with, then follow the guidance and body map on page 10, using your Natural Boar Hair Dry Body Brush.
For those using the brush on yourself, switch the brush to the back of your hand and you will find it much easier to reach your back.
Once your body has been thoroughly brushed all over and your skin feels refreshed and exfoliated. Use the Lemongrass & Ginger Body Wash by Candle Spa (No.3) to cleanse your body, removing dry skin or impurities the brush has drawn out.
Next, find a comfortable position, this may be on a bed (we recommend close to one side so your partner can stand), on the floor with cushions with your partner kneeling beside you or sat on a sofa with your back facing your partner

Take a small amount of the Time to Connect Massage Oil (No.4) and warm it between your hands. Do not pour too much at one time, it should be enough to coat your hands without pouring off. Throughout the massage, if you feel friction, simply top up your hands with a little more oil.
Use the techniques and guidance set out on page 12. We have included 2 simple techniques, Effleurage (sweeping) and Petrisage (Kneading). Use these in combination on areas of your body where you want to focus. This could be an entire body massage or simply focused on your neck and shoulders, the choice is yours. 3 key points to note:
- Where possible, always try to aim your massage in the general direction of the heart. For example, massage up limbs rather than down.
- Never massage with pressure over bone and never massage directly along the spine; stick to the tissue either side.
To help with relieving tension in key areas, we have also included a Himalayan Salt Ball. This can be used by placing the ball on an area of tension (for example a knot in the shoulders), then, using the palm of your hand roll the ball with downwards pressure.
You can place the ball on a soft surface (the back of a chair, on a carpeted floor, or a firm sofa) and lay your back against it. Then, by rocking and moving your body, you can use the pressure to relieve tension in hard to reach areas.
You can also place the ball on the floor, and roll the soles of your feet on top. This is a great way to give yourself a pressure point massage. These techniques work incredibly well at relieving tension, as you know your own body better than anyone and therefore you can control the location and pressure you need ideally. Do not put too much body weight or force onto the ball, as it is made of natural salt and may crack
The ball can also be heated or cooled, to aid in tension relief or inflammation reduction respectively. For information on this, as well as the other benefits of Himalayan Salt Balls, see page 22.
Dry body brushing involves gently brushing your skin with a dry brush to exfoliate, stimulate blood circulation, and promote lymphatic drainage. The benefits? Oh, there are plenty! Dry brushing helps remove dead skin cells, unclogs pores, and leaves your skin feeling smoother and more radiant. It also boosts blood flow, bringing nutrients to your skin and aiding in the elimination of toxins through your lymphatic system. Plus, it can help reduce the appearance of cellulite and promote a healthy, toned look. It’s like a spa treatment right in your own bathroom!
Here’s a simple guide to get you started on your dry body brushing journey:
Brush Towards Lymph Nodes: The lymphatic system filters out harmful substances within your body, flushing out toxins and helping you fight infection. Brushing towards these sites may help boost this process. Interesting Fact: When you feel unwell, you will often find your lymph nodes feel swollen. This is because they are producing an increased amount of lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell) which helps destroy pathogens in your body, such as bacteria and viruses.
Start at Your Feet: Begin brushing at your feet and move upwards, always brushing towards your heart. Use long, gentle strokes, and be mindful of sensitive areas or any broken skin. Follow along with the accompanying body map to help keep you on the right track.
Adjust Pressure: Apply light to moderate pressure while brushing. You don’t want to scrub your skin vigorously or cause any discomfort. Let the brush do the work for you.
Extra Attention: Spend a bit more time on areas prone to dryness, roughness, or cellulite. This can include elbows, knees, thighs, and buttocks. Brushing these areas more thoroughly can help improve their appearance over time.
Hydrate Afterwards: After dry brushing, hop into the shower to wash away the exfoliated skin cells. Following this experience, your body will be nourished using our Time to Connect Massage Oil; but day to day this can be done with a moisturiser or body oil to hydrate your skin and lock in the benefits of dry brushing.
Brush Regularly: Consistency is key with dry body brushing. Aim to brush your entire body at least a few times a week to maintain its benefits. You’ll notice the difference in the texture and appearance of your skin over time.

SE-LF partners with Carbon Neutral Britain: planting 30 trees each month, the equivalent to 1.5 acres of reforestation every year
As the devastating effects of climate change continue to worsen, we believe it is increasingly important that every individual, company, organisation, and government plays their part in addressing the global crisis. From the very beginning we have been taking steps to minimise our impact on the environment, and even do good for the planet. We aim to make every decision we take as environmentally minded as possible; whether this be our reusable components, our unlaminated FSC certified card boxes, our biodegradable labels or our non-toxic vegetable inks.
But we also wanted to go one step further and we are proud to announce our partnership with Carbon Neutral Britain to plant 30 trees each
month in sustainable projects both in Britain and around the world. This is equivalent to 1.5 acres of reforestation and results in 60 tonnes of CO2e being removed from the atmosphere each year.
Commitment to carbon neutrality is becoming increasingly important as our planet continues to warm due to increased carbon dioxide (CO2e) emissions. By planting trees and funding carbon offsetting projects, we can remove and prevent further CO2e emissions around the globe.
Planting trees is widely recognised as one of the most sustainable ways to offset carbon emissions. Forest projects absorb CO2, refract the earth’s heat, and have a positive impact on wildlife, ecology, and biodiversity.
Carbon Neutral Britain is committed to spending up to 10% of its budget on carbon offsetting or sustainable treeplanting projects in Britain, for Britain. For example, the Richmondshire Wood project, located in Whashton Wood just outside the Yorkshire Dales national park

and around four miles from Richmond, will see 4,000 trees planted to create a broadleaf woodland with panoramic views of Richmondshire and a vital habitat for wildlife. The trees planted in this project will be native species, including Sessile Oak, Alder, Bird Cherry, Rowan, Scots Pine, Hornbeam, and Aspen.
All of Carbon Neutral Britain’s carbon offsetting projects are certified to the highest standards through the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Gold Standard Voluntary Emission Reductions (VER), and Certified Emission Reductions (CER) programmes, ensuring that the measurements and tonnes of CO2e are accurate and verified. To qualify for these standards, all projects must go through a rigorous and public registration and management process, thirdparty audit, and are overseen by the CDM Executive Board, ratified by the Kyoto Protocol. This means that the international carbon credits we use are the exact same credits used by multinational organisations and even countries in their emission reduction schemes.
As individuals, we all have a role to play in tackling the climate crisis. By supporting carbon neutral companies, who are taking active steps to reduce their impact on the planet, we can all make a meaningful difference. And, as we hope

Let’s explore how to practice Box Breathing:
Find a comfortable position and gently close your eyes.
Step 1: Inhale deeply and slowly through your nose, counting to four as you fill your lungs and notice the sensation of your chest rising
Step 2: Hold your breath for a count of four, embracing the pause
Step 3: Exhale slowly and steadily through your mouth, counting to four and notice your chest falling
Step 4: Hold your breath for another count of four
Repeat this rhythmic pattern for several counts, noticing how your body and mind relax each time
Close your eyes gently and bring your attention to the present moment. Notice the sensations within yourself, the weight of your body on the chair or cushion, or the feeling of contact between your feet and the ground.
Now, shift your focus to your thoughts. Instead of engaging with them or attempting to push them away, simply observe them as if they were passing clouds in the sky. Allow them to come and go without judgment or attachment.
Next, redirect your attention to the sounds around you. Listen to the symphony of noises, whether it’s the distant hum of traffic, the gentle rustling of leaves, or the soft melody of birdsong. Embrace the sounds as they arise and fade away, allowing them to become a soothing backdrop to your experience.
As you continue to sit in stillness, become aware of any bodily sensations that may arise. Notice any areas of tension, discomfort, or warmth. Observe these sensations without trying to change or fix them, simply accepting them as part of your present experience.
Throughout this practice, remind yourself that relaxation comes from embracing the stillness within, regardless of external circumstances. Allow yourself to release any expectations or judgments about how you should feel or what the experience should be like.
