Above a winding metal staircase are a daughter and a son raised to call each other’s parents aunt and uncle but with no blood shared between them other than blood shed once riding a wagon down the steep driveway in the suburban cul de sac they shared as children. Salty wind blows up from the beach and catches their hair. With an inching closer of faces they cease to be bloodless cousins and become seaside lovers. With a press of his palm against the top of her head they cease to be seaside lovers and become a man and a mouth. With a refusal to bend at the neck they cease to be a man and a mouth and become a drooling dog and its choke collar. With a brother in law’s footsteps at the bottom of the stairs they cease to be a drooling dog and its choke collar and become cousins again. With the brother in law’s brief glance at their shapes against the dark night sky they cease to be cousins and become the talk of the town. With his sudden feeling of nostalgia for bygone youth, they cease to be the talk of the town and become glimmering, human shaped memories that refuse to fade with time. With a slam of reentry through the porch door, they cease to be glimmering, human shaped memories that refuse and become human shaped children that consent, and with a final folding into one another they cease to be human shaped, or shaped at all, and become formless want that floats above the house. Underneath the roof is a circle of men and women gripping wine glasses and talking about the state of America. Many of them hold government positions and those who don’t hold government positions hold their spouses who hold government positions very tightly at night. They sit in near darkness and talk about the state of America--the America they hold very tightly at night, even tighter than their government spouses. The men and women call their copulating cousin children down from above to have a dinner of angel hair pasta. The children aren’t hungry for dinner, they move their food around on their

GIRL ON FIRE Elissa Bardhi Oil Painting on Canvas 30x 30
The piece was inspired by the colossal 2018 California wildfires, which were the deadliest and most destructive wildfires on state record. It was important to me to create a work of art that might encompass the stirring emotions that were present amongst people fleeing their homes. The woman looks away, her eyes uncertain, wandering into the flames. Her hand is pulling on her coat, attempting to shield herself from the blazing heat. The smoke is building around her, glowing throughout the forest. You can hear the crackling transcend through the painting. The wildfires lasted for over 5 months, displacing tens of thousands of people. This piece should also draw attention to the more recent Australian bushfires that have ripped through the continent and were reported to have killed millions of animals.

BODY IS: STICKY FINGERS Emma Karnes Body is new mess that turns & glistens in the pork-fried sun, Body is full soup-broth churning fat & thick through the night, Body is half-groan underground like bulge of dirt’s gas & fracture,
You spend the afternoon perched on the railing of his porch steps, sipping strawberry juice, laughing like music, listening to his silly rhymes about your slim ankles & the homeless man down the street. You knock your ankle bones together like little drums. Does he hears the muted beats? You twirl your hair with sticky fingers. The four o’clock sun takes refuge in your bare skin. It’s still daytime, though the park’s light across the street disappears quick like a blue ghost at dawn
Body is grotesque foxtrot tripping & choking down a long empty road, Body is bright fruit-mush sweating & stinking in the ceramic bowl, Body is place falling and flipping over its own broken severed parts,

COVID-19 DIARY The outbreak of COVID-19 has lead to both biological and ideological fever in China. Relevant controversial social events have aroused many debates among Chinese people. After the death of doctor Li Wenliang, many people asked for freedom of speech on Weibo, but the hashtag was deleted by Chinese government within 30 minutes. The desire of discussing censorship in China has become more and more irrepressible because a strict internet security law was taken into effect on March 1st. It is like a fever that is oppressed by ice: it gets cooled down, but it will not disappear.

2.1 2020 The Red Cross Society in Wuhan have been accused of misallocating medical supply donations meant to support hospitals in Wuhan. In one case, netizens discovered that only 3,000 masks went to Wuhan Union Hospital of China, a major medical battle ground, while two private hospitals on the waiting list to treat coronavirus patients received 36,000 masks. In addition, the Wuhan Red Cross is suspected of corruption in land and property as the media continues to dig deeper into their management practices. However, warehouse security of Wuhan Red Cross ordered a China Central Television reporter to cut off a live broadcast when he tried to enter the warehouse for a news report. Since the outbreak of Covid-19, people across the countryhad been making tremendous amount of donations to Wuhan Red Cross, but these donations seemed enter a black hole and never appear again.
Ophthalmoogist Li Wenliang, who warned about the outbreak of COVID-19, died after becoming infected with coronavirus in Wuhan, China on Feb 7, 2020, aged 33 years. On Dec 30, 2019, Li Wenliang sent a message to a group of fellow doctors warning them about a possible outbreak of an illness that resembled severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in Wuhan, Hubei province, China, where he worked. Meant to be a private message, he encouraged them to protect themselves from infection. Days later, he was summoned to the Public Security Bureau in Wuhan and made to sign a statement in which he was accused of making false statements that disturbed the public order. In the days before his death, Li said “If the officials had disclosed information about the epidemic earlier I think it would have been a lot better,” in an interview with The New York Times. “There should be more openness and transparency,” he said.

2.15 2020 A video showing tearful female medical workers having their heads shaved before going to COVID-19 epicenter city Wuhan has sparked outrage on Chinese social media. The video, originally posted by Gansu Daily on February 15, shows how a group of female nurses is standing in line to have their hair shaved off in preparation of their mission to Hubei to assist during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Typology of Informal Spaces Gabriel I. Castro-Andrade / 8.5”x6.5” / Ink
20
The following pieces are a part of a series called “Informal Spaces, the series tackles the questions of what is informal spaces, how is it made, who makes it and why. This is apart of a 100-day study which will be fully showcased in the 10x100 Exhibition this coming May. The findings of this study clearly show how the typology of societal ills of social inequality and accessibility truly manifests within public space. We as the public and those of us who are apart of the process of creating the built environment clearly ignore the issues and necessities in the public realm on a daily basis as if the curators of these spaces are shrouded in the fog of alienation by a dispassionate society.
