Genesis.
The formation of a new era.
At our very first meeting, our team reflected on the theme that could embody the feeling we were all feeling on grounds and in our personal lives. With the effects of Covid on UVA student life settling behind us, our members felt that our generation was going through a transformation. This idea led us to the conclusion that we are entering a new time in our lives, the genesis of a new period.
With such a large concept to embody in such a small zine, our incredible teams have worked hard over this past semester. Our incredible marketing team led by Emma Marsh inspired me with their innovation and the passion they had for the success of our zine. Additionally, Emma Todd’s creative team worked tirelessly to create stunning spreads that not only enhance our artists’ work, but are works of art in themselves.
I would also like to thank the Fralin and URecords for all of their help in ensuring the success of our launch event and promoting the arts on grounds. I could not imagine Scratch Zine without their efforts.
The bright and passionate people that make up this collaborative community is what makes me so sad that this is my last semester as the Editor in Chief. I am so thankful to be involved with an organization made up of such talented and dedicated individuals and I am so excited to see the next era of the zine. And with that, I am thrilled to introduce: Genesis.

This year, Scratch welcomed a newfound influx of incredibly passionate and talented individuals. I am so proud of what all of our designers, artists, and fellow team members have put into this zine this semester, and I am eager for what’s yet to come. I feel that the Scratch Zine is cultivating its own genesis, as we build on the creative foundations left by past contributors through our own emergence of creativity. This zine is so special to me, and it warms my heart to see how special it can be for others. I hope it is special for you.
