Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was commissioned and first performed by the Royal Ballet.
The world premiere took place at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London on 28th February 2011, choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, conducted by Barry Wordsworth.

All instruments in the score are written at sounding pitch, with the usual octave transpositions for piccolo, contrabassoon, tuned percussion, celesta and double basses. Double bass harmonics are written as normal notes, i.e. an octave above actual pitch.
Muting requirements: Horns–straight,bass trombone Harmon mutes with stems removed,to create wa-wa effects. Trumpets–straight, Harmon, cup, plunger;Trombones –straight, Harmon, cup, plunger;Tuba –straight.
All strings except basses require practice (preferably Tonwolf)mutes.
Ossia lines are provided-for Cor anglais if Oboe d’amoreis unavailableand for separate Clashed Cymbals/Pedal Bass Drum if a set is unavailable.
When performing in a pit, the entire orchestra should be amplified, with particular attention given to the strings, piano, harp, ram’s horn and voices.
