PSHE

In our school, we follow the 1 decision scheme to teach our PSHE. Through PSHE, we see the children develop and grow –building positive relationships with their peers. Our school values are discussed often.

During our PSHE lessons in Year 5, we will explore: feelings & emotions, peer pressure, inclusion & acceptance, the concept of ‘Enterprise’ and we will begin to talk about puberty. This half term, we will be teaching lessons on the following: Growth Mindset, anger and safety.

SWIMMING

The children will swim on a Monday morning for 8 weeks.

Swimming commences on Monday 15th September

All children will be required to bring a swimming costume/trunks, a towel and swimming hat.

Further information will be sent out.

READING AND HOMEWORK

One of our key priorities is developing READING. We strongly believe reading underpins our children's successes across the curriculum.

The requirement of all children is to read at least three times per week at home to build up their reading stamina. This can either be to an adult or they can read independently.

Each child will be issued with a reading record for parents to record their child’s reading each week. This will be checked in school.

In Year 5, children are permitted to write a comment the diary themselves, however we ask that parents still initial/sign to acknowledge the comment

Homework is set weekly on a Friday to be returned by Wednesday the following week.

READING AND HOMEWORK

In their reading journals, the children have the login information for ‘Times Table Rockstars’ (TTRS) & ‘Spelling Frame’

These are two programmes that school have subscribed to, for children to access with their learning both within and outside the classroom.

In addition to the weekly homework/reading, we encourage the children to access these apps (as well as others) as frequently as possible.

(Special Educational needs and disabilities)

If you have any concerns about your child’s progress or well-being, the first point of call will always be to talk to the class teacher.

From this point, it may be that further provision is required, which the class teacher will organise and implement.

After this period of time, if there are still concerns, the SEND team (Mrs Tudor and Mrs Sutton) are always there to support and offer guidance for the children.

At Churchtown, we use the app SeeSaw to offer a window into the classroom.

Staff in school use SeeSaw to journal the children’s learning and parents have the opportunity to access their child’s individual portfolio.

Your child will have already been transferred into their new class, so you will already be able to view their learning journey so far! Please remember the Code of Conduct which you signed when allowing access to SeeSaw last academic year, regarding the use of these images. If you wish to see this again, please ask at the school office.

Behaviour on the playground

• We can’t use the climbing equipment before the start of the school day

• Think – is there enough room for me or do I need to wait my turn?

• Only climb on things that are designed to be climbed on

• Use kind hands

• Use kind words

• Respect the equipment - we want to make sure the equipment is well looked after so we can all enjoy the playground for a long time to come!
