Year 6 Curriculum
Art and Design: Make my voice heard
Children will develop skills in using different art styles, exploring effects with tools, understanding and applying chiaroscuro, and creating symbolic and expressive drawings. It encourages children to form their own opinions about art, understand the impact of techniques, and convey messages through their artwork.
PSHE: Our topic for this half term is 'Feelings and Emotions' with a focus on 'Worry'. We will explore what emotions are, identify how we can reduce our feeling of worry, learn how to support others, and recognise that our actions affect others.
History: This half term we will be learning about The Great War. We will examine the events that led to the outbreak of war, the use of propaganda and what life was like in the trenches for soldiers. The unit ends by learning about how the war came to an end and the Treaty of Versailles.
Computing: This half term our focus is online safety. We will spend time thinking about the impact and consequences of sharing online and explore strategies that will help to keep us protected online.
Year 6 Autumn 1: History Focus
Me presento / Presenting Myself (recap unit):
• Revisit basic greetings, ask somebody how they are feeling and their name in Spanish and reply when asked.
• Count up to 100 in Spanish.
• Ask somebody how old they are and where they live in Spanish and reply when asked.
• Express our nationalities in Spanish with further understanding of gender agreement rules.
Music: In Music this half term our focus element of Music is pitch. The unit is called Happy and is based on the song by Pharrell Williams. We will be singing the song, playing the keyboards, composing, improvising and exploring music from the 1960’s.
PE: In PE we will develop skills in invasion games and athletics. We will also swim for 5 weeks during this half term.
