Churchtown School Values

Independence

Being self-directed and self-determined — having the confidence to carry out tasks independently, take responsible actions, and be accountable for our choices, all while feeling safe and supported in our environment.

Connection

Being part of a happy, loving community where positive relationships are built through knowing, supporting, and respecting one another — where we feel valued, learn how to mend friendships, and create meaningful connections by being respectful to all

Churchtown School Values

Growth Growth comes from facing challenges with resilience, knowing that it's okay to find things difficult — because with purpose, determination, and something to strive for, we learn, improve, and become stronger.

Acceptance

Embracing who we are and valuing others for who they are — celebrating diversity and creating a community where everyone feels they belong.

Churchtown School Values

Joy Grows through purposeful, active learning and a broad, balanced curriculum full of variety

— creating space for play, shared experiences, and the simple recognition that making time for fun brings energy, connection, and balance to life.

Year 4 Curriculum Overview Autumn 1

YEAR 4 MULTIPLICATION CHECK – JUNE 2026

WILL BE DONE WITHIN A 2 WEEK PERIOD FROM MONDAY 1ST JUNE 2026

• TIMES TABLE KNOWLEDGE IS ESSENTIAL AS A BUILDING BLOCK FOR ALL MATHS SKILLS.

• WE EXPECT THE CHILDREN TO KNOW ALL THEIR TIMES TABLES OFF BY HEART, UP TO 12X12.

• IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE CHILDREN TAKE TIME TO LEARN THESE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK. CHILDREN WILL COMPLETE TIMES TABLES TESTS EACH WEEK IN CLASS, WORKING ON A SPECIFIC TABLE UNTIL THEY KNOW IT THOROUGHLY BEFORE MOVING ONTO THE NEXT TABLE.

• TO ENCOURAGE THE CHILDREN TO CONTINUE TO ENGAGE WITH LEARNING THEIR MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION FACTS, WE WOULD LIKE THE CHILDREN TO ACCESS TT ROCKSTARS REGULARLY THROUGHOUT THE WEEK.

• CHILDREN WILL BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO PRACTISE THEIR TABLES ON TT ROCKERS TWICE A WEEK IN SCHOOL AND LOG IN DETAILS WILL BE GIVEN IN THE FRONT OF READING DIARIES, SO THE CHILDREN CAN ACCESS THIS FROM HOME.

In Year 4 we have PE on Mondays and Thursdays.

P.E is taught by class teachers and specialist coaches from West Lancashire Sports Partnership.

We will begin swimming sessions in the Spring Term.

PE Kit: No branded kit.

• Plain navy joggers/leggings

• Navy shorts

• White t-shirt

• Navy sweatshirt/hoodie

• Pumps or trainers

SWIMMING

In Year 4, the children go swimming at Tarleton Academy. Swimming is an essential and mandatory part of the PE curriculum

All children will be required to bring a swimming costume/trunks, a towel and swimming hat.

Further information will be provided about swimming lessons next term.

Reading & Homework

One of our key priorities is developing READING. We strongly believe reading underpins our children's successes across the curriculum.

The requirement of all children is to read at least three times per week at home. This can either be to an adult or they can read independently.

Each child will be issued with a reading record for parents to record their child’s reading each week. This will be checked in school.

Homework is set weekly on a Friday to be returned by Tuesday the following week.

PROPOSED TRIPS AND VISITS

IN THE SUMMER TERM WE VISIT THE BEATLES STORY MUSEUM IN LIVERPOOL.

(Special Educational needs and disabilities)

If you have any concerns about your child’s progress or well-being, the first point of call will always be to talk to the class teacher.

From this point, it may be that further provision is required, which the class teacher will organise and implement.

After this period of time, if there are still concerns, the SEND team (Mrs Tudor and Mrs Sutton) are always there to support and offer guidance for the children.

At Churchtown, we use the app SeeSaw to offer a window into the classroom.

Staff in school use SeeSaw to journal the children’s learning and parents have the opportunity to access their child’s individual portfolio.

Your child will have already been transferred into their new class, so you will already be able to view their learning journey so far! Please remember the Code of Conduct which you signed when allowing access to SeeSaw last academic year, regarding the use of these images. If you wish to see this again, please ask at the school office.
