ST ANNE’S RC PRIMARY SCHOOL SAFEGUARDING POLICY 2016
INTRODUCTION
This policy has been developed to ensure that all adults in St Anne’s RC Primary School are working together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. This policy will be ratified by the Governing Body at its meeting on 14 th July 2016 and will be reviewed annually.
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families and carers has a role to play in safeguarding children. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, all professionals should make sure their approach is child-centred. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child”.
This policy describes the management systems and arrangements in place to create and maintain a safe learning environment for all our children, young people and staff. It identifies actions that should be taken to redress any concerns about child welfare.
The Headteacher (Mrs Orrell) or in her absence the authorised member of senior staff, Abigail Radcliffe/Gemma Regan, has the ultimate responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people goes beyond implementing basic child protection procedures. It is an integral part of all activities and functions of St Anne’s RC Primary School. This policy complements and supports other relevant school and Local Authority policies.
Under the Education Act 2002 schools have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of their students and, in accordance with guidance set out in ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children March 2015’, (Keeping Children Safe July 2015) St Anne’s RC Primary School will work in partnership with other organisations where appropriate to identify any concerns about child welfare and take action to address them.
