CONGRATULATIONS • Rafferty Knight on Sunday 20th March Rafferty went to London to the National Karate Competition. There were competitors from England & Ireland. Rafferty was one of the first to perform and managed to get into the finals. He went on to win a silver medal in the Kata section for U10s. Rafferty will now be going to the final England selection to see if he has made it into the England Karate team! Well done, Rafferty!

• Monty Bailey who took part in 2 Rugby Tournaments, the Kent Mini Rugby Festival where his team was undefeated, winning 4 games and drawing 1 and Old Colfeans Tournament where his team came 2nd in the Kent Division.

• Sophia Clemens awarded Grade 1 Singing with Distinction.

• Oliver Stockham awarded Man of the Match by Rotherfield Football Club.

• Charlie Denney took part in a three mile sponsored walk for Sports Relief raising £1,000!

• Freya Griffiths awarded Goldfish Level 3 Swimming • Lorraine Deschamps-Smith awarded Octopus Level 3 Swimming • Max Whittington who took part in a triathalon coming 3rd place • Honor Goodman has successfully qualified for a Pen Licence. Well done!

SPECIAL MENTIONS One of the loveliest aspects of my role is receiving visits from children who come to share their good news.

This week I have had a steady stream of visitors to show me their wonderful work around the themes of the Easter season, Reconciliation and Works of mercy. I am delighted to share with you some of their work – and hope it will brighten your day, too!`

My Finished Sculpture The name of my sculpture is silver chirps. The idea behind my sculpture is Bird growing up. I used the environment and I copied the Birds.

My sculpture is about us growing into strong birds and spreading our wings. It starts off in reception when we crack out our eggs and just start learning. Then we go into Year one and that’s when we start learning the ways of birds. Year two is when we open our eyes and Year three is when we start exploring the tree. Year four is when we start learning to use our wings. Year five is when we go on our first flight. Year six is when we fly away from the nest and make a nest for our new family.

I would like to improve it by making it bigger.

SPORT RELIEF Congratulations to you all and a big thank you as we raised £285!

TAG RUGBY Report written by Edward Ward On Wednesday 23rd March we played a Tag Rugby Tournament at Uplands Community College. Our first match was against Ticehurst and Flimwell. We went into the game with great enthusiasm and battled hard, scoring some great tries. Unfortunately Ticehurst had a strong team and we lost 6-4. Our next game was against Frant. We started off well but unfortunately we lost 6-3. We then had a break and came back fighting, winning the next game against Stonegate 14-8. Our final game was against Wadhurst and our whole team played brilliantly, winning 12-5. In the end we finished 3rd overall. We would like to thank Mrs HT for coaching us, the parents for their support and Uplands for hosting the event.

PTA News ECOKIDS RECYCLING COLLECTION - THURSDAY 12th MAY Spring is in the air.....time for a spring clean and de-clutter!

The PTA will be taking part in the Ecokids recycling collection on THURSDAY 12th MAY - collection bags went out in book bags this week.

If you could please fill the bags with any of the following items over the Easter holidays: • Good quality, dry, clean clothing (no leggings, underwear, tights or socks please!)

• Paired shoes • Handbags & accessories • Soft toys • Bed linen (no duvets, quilts, pillows or curtains) • Costume jewellery • Bric-a-Brac (small vases, teacups, picture frames, small bowls etc) • Small portable electrical items (hairdryers, toasters, irons) The more bags you are able to fill, the more money the PTA will raise!

This Forest School style playscheme will involve den building, making and following trails, fire lighting and cooking, natural crafts and finding about the amazing environment of the Ashdown Forest. It is run by Talking Trees on behalf of the Ashdown Forest Conservators. Staff are qualified Level 3 Forest School practitioners and trained first aiders.

Another busy and exciting week at Sacred Heart School where learning is fun!

Year 5 and 6 have been studying Shakespeare this year.

They all took part in a workshop McBeth in the Autumn term and Year 5 also recently completed their own 60 second Shakespeare plays. As this is the 400 year anniversary of Shakespeare's death a trip to the Globe Theatre seemed liked a good idea to consolidate all this work. It was a beautiful day and after a brief wander along the South Bank in the sunshine the children were able to go onto the stage to deliver lines from Romeo and Juliet and they were also allowed backstage. A Shakespearean actress led the tour which was followed by a workshop and the children acted out key scenes and lines from Romeo and Juliet. The visit was a great success! The children really enjoyed seeing the theatre for themselves and our tour guide was very impressed with the knowledge and skills that the children had picked up in the course of the project.

Thank you for Mrs Stanley and Year 2 who led us in the Final Liturgy of the term with a solemn depiction of the Last Supper. It was a very fitting and moving close to the term, poised as we were to commemorate and celebrate the most important feat of Easter.
