Academy Receives Round Square Global Membership Following the recent meeting of the Round Square Global Membership Committee and the Round Square Board, The Samworth Church Academy is overjoyed to learn that it has been successful in its application to become a Global Member of the Round Square. Founded in 1966, Round Square maintains and facilitates a worldwide network of 160 schools in 40 countries. Round Square schools are characterised by a shared belief in an approach to education based on six pillars, IDEALS, drawn from the theories of education philosopher Kurt Hahn. The six IDEALS include Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership and Service which are widely incorporated into the curriculum. A formal letter from Round Square Chairman, Rod Fraser, will be written to the Academy on behalf of the President, His Majesty King Constantine, on behalf of the Round Square Board and the growing community of Round Square Global Member Schools. Mrs Angela Owen, the Academy’s Round Square representative says “We are
the first state school in the UK and in the European region to be accepted as Global Members of the Round Square. Representatives from the Academy are looking forward to attending the Round Square International Conference in Europe in October, at which we will be formally welcomed into the Round Square Global Network and presented with the Round Square Flag and Membership Certificate. ˮ
