Year 3

Half-term: Autumn 1

In Year 3, we believe that homework should consolidate the learning that has taken place in school and engage the children to share this new knowledge with their families. The activities chosen below are directly relevant to the Year 3 curriculum in school

Please choose and complete at least 6 activities from the grid over the course of the half-term. Homework can be recorded in the homework book or brought into school in any other form (photos, posters etc) where appropriate We teach the children to take pride and responsibility for their own work, therefore we expect each homework task to be completed with care and to the best of your ability.

As part of our weekly homework offer in Year 3:

• Please continue to aim to read with your child at least 3 times a week.

• We would also like your child to continue to practise their times tables at home

• To support with our reading and writing work in school, we will now start to send home each week a spelling rule and linked words so you are aware of what is being covered as part of our work in school. This rule will be taught and practised throughout the following week in school and we wanted to send this home so, where possible, children can practise this at home. Children will have the chance to learn, practise and apply this rule in class through a range of activities and quizzes as part of our RWI spelling programme.

Thank you for your continued support.

Writing

Write a postcard home. You could write about a place that you have visited over the summer holidays or choose somewhere you would like to visit. Describe your chosen place and explain what you have been doing.

Volcano Model

If you’re feeling creative, try making a model of a volcano, with or without an eruption! The link below is a Youtube video on how to make a volcano at home.

Always ask for permission from an adult before using the internet.

Seeds

It is that time of year where seeds from the trees are falling. How many different types of seeds can you find? Name the trees your seeds have come from.

Reading

Choose a character from any book of your choice and consider what might be a good job for them. You could choose something sensible or be a bit more creative! For example, Superman could be a security guard, or he could be a pastry chef! Either way, you need to think about why your character would be suitable for the job and write down your reasons.

Be Imaginative

Make an insect hotel for your garden to help protect bugs and insects. Take photos and be prepared to tell us how you made it.

Keyboard Skills

Practise your keyboard skills online with BBC Dance Mat Typing. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ articles/z3c6tfr#zn9s3qt

UNO Maths

Use Uno cards (or an ordinary pack of cards if you do not have Uno) to practise single-digit addition and subtraction. This is a fun activity to practise your mental maths skills.

PHSE

This half term we will be focussing on feelings and emotions. Keep a feelings journal identifying activities you have done during the day and how they have made you feel. You could keep this up as a daily or weekly activity if you wish.

Art

We are focussing on growing as artists this half term by studying the skills of shading and toning. Practise using these skills by drawing some still life pictures.
