“I really like attending the Team Purebred Shows because we as exhibitors are given the opportunity to do so much more than just show our pigs, like competing in the the judging contest and the skillathon!
My favorite part about the Southwest Throwdown was being able to enjoy a show that was laid back, family friendly and had awesome prizes! I also enjoyed getting to interact with all the junior board members while at the show and seeing them make it fun for all the exhibitors.” -Kilee

“We started off the new show season with my favorite Team Purebred regional show, Southwest Throwdown!! We kicked off the weekend with everyone coming in on Friday for unloading and then that afternoon we got everyone checked in and ready for a busy next day. We started Saturday off with our super competitive judging and skillathon competitions and then right after that the exhibiotrs got their head in the game for showmanship, which is personally my favorite thing. After showmanship we got geared up for our gilt show with our strong and stacked grand gilt drive to follow. To end off this busy but exciting day we announced the winners of judging, skillathon, and sweepstakes and celebrated by playing Barnyard Olympics, which is everyone’s favorite, especially the Junior Board. To start off the last day in Woodward we kicked off the barrow show bright and early. As always it was a deep and competitive barrow show and grand drive. We ended the day with a speech from our judge Maverick Squires and we couldn’t thank him enough for coming out and supporting Team Purebred!! With this being my last Southwest Throwdown show I wouldn’t want it to go any other way. The staff, the kids, and the parents make it worth it every time!”

Every year I look forward to the Sweet Peach Regional for multiple reasons, two of them being I get to travel to one of my favorite states and I get to visit some of myfavoritefamilies.TheSweetPeachRegionalholdsa special place in my heart. It’s the show that I decided to apply for the Junior Board and I have not regretted it since. With having to find a new facility each year to accommodate all of the new families that we are gaining I have gotten to travel to several parts of George and each one continues to be better and better. As my third year attending the Sweet Peach Regional, I have watched it grow and develop into a top quality show that anybody should be proud to attend. We started with our first round of breed typing and check in Friday night after most of our families had arrived and began to settle in the barn. WethenstartedSaturdaymorningoffwiththesecond round of breed typing and check-in which was followedbytheskillathonandjudgingcontests.
We then started showmanship at noon with our judge for the weekend Mr. Taylor Farrer. It was at the conclusion of showmanship we started our Gilt show and Mr. Farr did a really good job of making sure each kid had their own time in the spotlight. At the conclusion of our Crossbred Gilt Drive we then started our two purebred drives and and the quality did not disappoint whether it was the Team Purebred Drive or the NJSA drive. We ended our grand drives with the announcement of our sweepstakes winners and barnyard Olympics. Barnyard Olympics was of course, the highlight for many exhibitors of the day, we even got parents to play musical chairs. We started Sunday off with our barrow show, and Mr. Farrer did an amazing job again of making sure each exhibitor had their time to be seen. As we finished out our classes for the day, we concluded the show with our grand drives. The quality of pigs that our exhibitors bring. We then began my least favorite part of the weekend, tearing everything down and packing up. It was amazing to see all of our exhibitors and their families throughout the sweet peach regional and I can’t wait to see everybodyatSpringfield.

From the Director ’s Perspective
Hello from Iowa!
Chelsea Schminke-Grieder Director of Junior Activities + Events
As Spring approaches, I believe in our show pig industry by leadership skills and their commitment to the youth in the industry! As we continue to build and expand Team Purebred, I am very thankful for the leadership and commitment my junior board team expresses and shares with the youth at Team Purebred but even more throughout their career. My junior board team is the foundation of Team Purebred, they showcase the passion in our industry, the willingness to go the extra mile, and the dedication it takes to help run a junior livestock organization. I will say this till I am blue in the face, I could not do what I do, without my team and the people that continue to support us day in and day out. I challenge all families to stop them at a show, introduce yourself at a sale this spring and chat with them about the industry because they are the future. As I get to sit and watch them run a ring as a team, answer questions for families, and be the leaders that they are at shows, I am thankful that I get to be a small stop on their journey into the next stage of their lives. To my team, thank you! Thank you for being the leaders that you are, giving me 110% always, and being a constant reminder to us all the "WHY" we are involved in this industry!
