SAS is excited to announce the addition of a 3,600 square foot Outdoor Learning Complex. The complex will have bouldering and climbing areasaswell asa mountain biking hub formiddle school and varsityteams.Itwill house"TheLab" (Local AreaBikingshopforon-sitemaintenance.)Itwill alsohavebikestoragetowers,apaved all-weatheroutdoorpumptrack,acampinggearstoragearea,andanoutdoorlearningcoordinator'soffice.
This year's spring play presented by the St. Andrew's-Sewanee Performing Arts Department will be an award-winning title from one of the top playwrights of middle and high school theatre in the United States, Cherie Bennett. The play is Zink: the Myth, the Legend, the Zebra. It will be presented at 7:30 PM on May 3rd and 4th and 2 PM Sunday, May 5th in the McCrory Hall for the Performing Arts. Don't let the title fool you.Yes,there are comedic moments,butthere is also some serious drama,atfirst,more subdued butthestakesbecomehigherastheplayprogresses.
On Wednesday, April 3 through Friday, April 5, the 8th grade class explored the United States' capital and US history through its buildings, monuments, and memorials. On Wednesday, they visited the Smithsonian Museums of Natural History and American History, the National Mall, and the World War II Memorial. ENGAGED LEADERSHIP RETREAT2024
The First Inaugural Engaged Leadership Retreat took place on Friday, March 29th and Saturday, March 30th. Generously funded by an anonymous gift, our endowed Sewanee Military Academy Leadership Development Fund,and a grantfromThe Templeton World Charity Foundation, the Engaged Leadership Retreatwas the first overnight student leadership retreat of its kind at SAS which brought together the outgoing Proctors and the incoming Proctors for an overnight trip filled with leadership training, group bonding, and succession planning. Seniors Anja Dombrowski and Onawa Henson have been accepted to present their research poster, "Progress Towards Identification of Antimicrobial Compounds in Liquidambar styraciflua," at the Biennial Conference on Chemical Education being held this summer at the University of Kentucky Dr Tracy Terry, who initiated this project through the Advanced Chemistry course, will be presenting her paper, “Course-Based Research Experiences for the High School Curriculum: Navigating Barriers and Leveraging Opportunities,” at the same conference
