SETI Projects Promote

INCLUSION IN THE PROVINCE Supported Employment Highlights

The 2019-2020 fiscal year saw eight CBOs receive funding from the Supported Employment Transition Initiative (SETI) so they could help people to prepare for, obtain, or maintain employment and engage employers in hiring people experiencing disability. Each project’s focus was geared to addressing particular needs within their community, whether it be transitioning youth from school to work, supporting people with mental health challenges, or providing training programs specific to certain fields of work. Regardless, SETI projects continued to provide individualized support to help each person actualize their employment goals. As a result, 214 people became employed or maintained their employment. Last year, the Ministry of Immigration and Career Training issued a Negotiated Request for Proposals for the management of the SETI Program for the next three years and to transition it to outcomes based contract management (OBCM). SARC was pleased to be the successful proponent, and we look forward to the opportunity to continue sharing SETI project success through OBCM reporting. Saskatchewan Celebrates DEAM! October 2019 was once again proclaimed as Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM), and this was our biggest one to date! Numerous organizations across the province held events to celebrate local employers, and there were events being promoted almost daily on social media.

DEAM also got some great television exposure. SARC and Farm Credit Canada (FCC) were guests on CTV Saskatoon Morning Live to talk about the benefits of hiring people experiencing disability, and we also partnered with FCC and SaskTel to air commercials that encourage other employers to consider hiring people experiencing disability, with the tag line of “It pays to be inclusive.”

Each year, the one month of DEAM seems to have a bigger impact, and it is due in large part to the year-round efforts of SARC Members to engage employers and communities. 15
