Aynı dönemde sanat koleksiyoncusu Harry Gullichesen ve Maire için tasarladığı Mairea Evi incelikli projelerinden biri olur. İnce kütüklerle tasarladığı zarif kompozisyonunu çelikle destekler ve çimen çatılarla örter. Böbrek biçimindeki havuzu ve saunasıyla Hollywood’a gönderme yapan proje, diğer yandan huş ağacı kaplı siyah çelik kolonlarıyla Finlandiya ormanlarının dokusuna ve ışığına saygı duruşu gibidir. ABD’den birçok mimarlık ödülü alan Finlandiyalı usta mimar, dünya çapında bir üne kavuşur ve işlerinin çoğu başyapıt olarak kabul edilir. Kazandığı Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) ve American Institute of Architecture (AIA) altın madalyaları da cabasıdır. 1976 yılında gelecek olan ölümüne kadar hep savaş öncesi ürettiği, büyüleyici ve üst kalitede Fin başyapıtlarıyla hatırlanacaktır.
In 1935, Alvar and Aino moved to Helsinki. Their house was close to Munkkiniemi and also served as a studio. During this time, he has founded the Artek company to produce wooden chairs and stools for the Paimio Sanatorium and the Vipuri Library. Even though he refused to take any architectural projects in town, he could live up to his principle only until 1937. He could not decline the offer to design the Savoy Restaurant. For the project, he designed the Savoy Vase, which he resembled to the leather pants of a young Eskimo maiden, which would become one of this bestselling products until present. In this period, his Mairea House project designed for the great art collector Harry Gullichesen and Maire starred as an elaborate work. This elegant composition comprised of slender wood logs was supported by steel and covered under grass roofs. Its kidneyshaped pool and sauna made a reference to Hollywood, as it made a tribute to the texture and light of the Finnish forests with its black steel coloumns covered in birch. The Finnish master has been granted several awards from the USA, and gained international fame, as most of his works were acclaimed as masterpieces. He had even won the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and American Institute of Architecture (AIA) gold medals. And he would be forever remembered with his amazing upscale Finnish masterpieces which he continued to produce until his death in 1976.
