Throughout most of her life, Terry-Lynn Murray has been on her own. She grew up on the streets and dealt with homelessness and addiction without much support. Thankfully, she found a haven at The Salvation Army in Vernon.
With the guidance of counsellors from The Salvation Army, Terry-Lynn found housing and consistent food assistance. The Army also helped her enrol in an addiction recovery program. It’s been seven years since she was on the streets. The continued help Terry-Lynn receives is thanks to your generous support.
“They always helped me with food when I was hungry, and they took me in as one of their own. It’s the rst time I’ve had a family ever in my life.”

Li Wang (Heather) journeyed from China to Canada in search of freedom and a fresh start with her son. She has since found solace within the welcoming community at The Salvation Army in Victoria, along with friendship and a sense of purpose in helping others.
Heather’s readiness to learn and adapt shines through her role as she prepares food, co ee, and snacks for mothers and children at the Play Café and guests during Drop-In. The genuine care and support she gives to those in need provide a great example of the positive impact that each volunteer can make in the lives of others.
“It’s about connecting with people, showing empathy, and making a di erence in their lives.”

Randy Reeves grew up a dysfunctional home, su ering from abuse and neglect. After leaving the military he created his own company but his addiction led to the loss of his marriage, family and business.

Wanting the pain to go away, Randy found The Salvation Army and eventually a job at the shelter where he’s been working steady for 14 years. Without your donation we wouldn’t be able to have people like Randy go through treatment, become an employee and now help others in similar situations.
“The Salvation Army gave me that chance, they opened the door with open arms and accepted me, and I’m very blessed and very grateful for that.”
