Saint Simeon’s takes skilled nursing and rehab to a whole new level Despite the tremendous impact COVID-19 has had on senior care communities, Saint Simeon’s has continued to thrive thanks to the wisdom and insight of our leadership team and the generosity of the Saint Simeon’s Foundation and our donors. Attentive to the shift in the senior care market, Saint Simeon’s CEO/President, Angela Green, went to work to reconfigure our existing facility and envisioned the Saint Simeon’s Medical Resort. A concept already wellestablished in other markets, only one other Medical Resort existed in the Tulsa area.

The Saint Simeon’s Medical Resort is an oasis within the greater Saint Simeon’s Community offering 16 private medical suites with private baths, fine dining, courtyard patios or park views and rehabilitative therapies to meet post-acute skilled nursing needs.

Commica Williams, Unit Clerk and Jeff Centeno, CNA, Healthcare Center Yesterday there was an unforeseen situation that occurred in which our driver Juan had to stay longer with a resident at a medical appointment than had been expected, which meant he would not be able to return to Saint Simeon’s in time to pick up the next resident he was scheduled to drive. We had very

limited time to attempt to get this resident to his appointment.

Commica and Jeff acted quickly to assist, and amazingly we made it on time for the resident’s appointment. Their actions yesterday are not unusual in any way for Commica and Jeff. This is literally who they are every single day. That is why I feel they both deserve to be recognized for their hard NOVEMBER

Shequanta Brisker, LPN, Staffing Coordinator Shequanta has gone out of her way to welcome me as a new employee at Saint Simeon’s. She has patiently and cheerfully answered countless questions I’ve asked her in the last three weeks. She has not felt well this week but has powered through because she knew we were short staffed and needed her to work. She has worked from home and in the office this week, all while not feeling well, and continued to exhibit a positive upbeat spirit and genuine concern for the well-being of Saint Simeon’s and the staff. She has an amazing work ethic!

Kendyl Troutz and Juan Ferrera, Life Enrichment I wish to commend two staff members for extraordinary care of my wife yesterday.

She was transported to Saint Francis for an outpatient infusion. After she arrived, the hospital canceled the infusion. Kendyl arranged for Juan to pick her up. Juan picked her up early and transported her back to her room. These two individuals went above and beyond for us.

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. PARADE We were proud to represent Saint Simeon’s in the 43rd Annual MLK Parade this year.

Our hope had been to bring along staff members and residents to march or ride along, but the recent COVID surge required us to rethink our plans. But it was a beautiful day for a parade, and between name recognition and the peacocks pictured on the bus we were feeling the love! n

CMSA Christmas luncheon & fashion show On December 16th, several members of our team had the privilege of attending the Case Management Society of America—Eastern Oklahoma chapter’s Christmas Luncheon and Fashion Show. Saint Simeon’s has sponsored CMSA and the annual Christmas event for many years. In addition to purchasing seats for the event, we were able to increase our donation by tipping the models as they walked the runway. All money donated at the 2021 event went to the Day Center for the Homeless in downtown Tulsa. n

THE CHAPLAIN’S CHAT The Rev. Susanne Methven, Chaplain

Dear Residents, families, and friends of Saint Simeon’s, Do you find yourself wondering these days about what to do in the face of monumental and systematic ills? How do we hold onto hope for the transformation of evil in the crucible of God’s love? How can we co-create with God the kingdom we pray will come “on earth as it is in heaven”?

Several years ago, I was meditating on the feeding of the 5000 (John 6:1-14). Jesus faced the massive problem of subsistence living: there were many hungry and tired people. I love that through this story, Jesus shows us how to face our times. He gives us a clear example to follow. Jesus looks up and sees the need in front of him. He uses the resources around him—green grass for tired people to rest upon and five loaves of bread and two fish for food. He offers what he has with thankfulness to God. He gives what he has directly and simply. The people receive more than a morsel, they have an “elegant sufficiency,” as my great aunt used to say. I am sure that Jesus loved walking through the crowd offering food. Think of the Jesus’ joy in serving bread and fish to the people! We can imitate Christ. Here is a way to remember how: LAUGH!

= Look around you—what is in front of you? = Ask—what is the need? = Use the resources—people, places, things—around you and offer them to God. = Get personal—do something yourself with and for others. = Hold onto hope—you are enough, more than enough through the power of the Holy Spirit!

And if Jesus taps you on the shoulder, do whatever he tells you (John 2:5)…and LAUGH! n

FOUNDATION NEWS

Saint Simeon’s Foundation names new Executive Director Tyler Davis was named the new Executive Director of the Saint Simeon’s Foundation on December 3, 2021, and officially joined our family on January 15, 2022. Tyler joins Saint Simeon’s after four successful years at the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma as the Director of Stewardship and Development. Tyler is an alum of Oklahoma State University and is currently working towards his Master of Arts at Oklahoma City University in Nonprofit Leadership with an emphasis on Fundraising. He has served the nonprofit and philanthropic sector in Oklahoma City for a decade and brings a wealth of knowledge and energy to the foundation.

Of this new opportunity, Tyler says, “Saint Simeon’s has served the Tulsa community faithfully for over 60 years, providing a Christian environment with the highest attainable level of independence, dignity, and individuality. Our work at the Saint Simeon’s Foundation will ensure it serves the next generation and beyond. My family and I are excited to relocate to Tulsa and take on a new opportunity to make an impact with a wonderful organization and community.”

Tyler married his best friend, Angela, in 2012, and they are proud parents of Sutton, their daughter, and Jake, their dog. Tyler enjoys being with his family and friends, traveling, and golfing in his free time. n

STITCH-IN-TIME GROUP SUPPLIES SNOWMEN The Stitch-In-Time Group has worked hard over the past year making goodies to take to several groups. The ladies made each child at Crosstown Early Learning Center their very own stuffed snowman! The kids were so excited for the fun present (especially since they didn’t have to wait to play with them!). Crosstown posted photos and a big THANK YOU to our expert snowman crafters on their Facebook page. The surplus snowmen went to a local fire station for them to give out. n
