...to those who have taken the time to nominate a Saint Simeon’s employee to receive special recognition through the Kris’ Caring Champions program this year. Dearly Beloved We Have Come Together...

Many people are familiar with these words as they are spoken at the time of a marriage. And yet these words are also a part of the invitation to daily morning prayer in the Episcopal Church: Dearly beloved, we have come together in the presence of Almighty God our heavenly Father, to set forth his praise, to hear his holy Word, and to ask, for ourselves and on behalf of others, those things that are necessary for our life and our salvation (BCP, 79).

For greater accessibility to residents, we gather for worship in spaces throughout the building: in Health Care’s life enrichment area; in Assisted Living we use the Game Room on the second floor and the Blue Moon Dining Room on the first floor; and in Memory Center the common area. Some residents make their own way to our services; many are personally invited and brought to the service. We gather in the presence of God and with each other for services on Sundays, including sharing the Lord’s table, and for prayer services throughout the week.

We gather to praise God. Selecting hymns is an adventure, not only because the denominations have so few hymns in common, but also because we need music videos that balance good accompaniment, clear voices, and large lyrics. Some residents can see the TV screen and others cannot. On Sundays we have a color-coded large-type song sheet: blue for the first hymn, brown for the hymn in response to the sermon, green for our hymn before communion, red at the end of the service. I encourage residents to take the song sheet with them, as hymns have words worthy of meditation during the week.

Our services are a la cart, literally! The cart is our rolling resource. The cart contributes to the sensory experience of worship: the amplifier and microphone make our services audible, the fabric covering gives visual beauty and indicates the season of the church year.

Candles or silk flower arrangements find their place on the cart and in the worship areas. The basket contains the elements of communion, so that we can taste and see that the Lord is good. The comfort of residents is also important: a box of Kleenex is available, as well as blankets kindly donated by a former resident’s family.

Worship at Saint Simeon’s is a moving experience – we go where the residents are.

FOUNDATION NEWS At the Home and Foundation Joint Board meeting in December, Trustee George Dotson was awarded Emeritus status on the Foundation’s Board.

The Dotsons have been synonymous with Saint Simeon's since the mid-1980s, their names intertwined with our community’s legacy. While George continues as a Trustee for the Home, Phyllis and George recently retired from their leadership roles on the Foundation Board after serving for 38 years.

The Dotson’s contributions have been immeasurable— generously dedicating their time, talents, and resources to ensure exceptional care and hospitality for our residents and their families. We are overwhelmingly grateful for the incredible impact Phyllis and George have had on our community.
