THE CHAPLAIN’S CHAT
The Rev. Susanne Methven, Chaplain
Pray. We prayed for students, student families, teachers, administrators, school staff and school safety during the week beginning August 18th. We prayed for the eleven Tulsa Public Schools closest to Saint Simeon’s, as well as for the five Episcopal Schools in Oklahoma. We prayed by name for those listed by staff, residents, and guests. This academic year, as you slow down for or pass a school, how about praying, “May the God of all hope bless and keep you and give you peace!”
Bless. We bless animals to imitate God blessing creatures during creation. We bless animals to honor the life of Saint Francis (whose feast day is October 4), known for his love of creatures and nature. We bless animals to pronounce God’s love and favor on us as their caretakers and them as our companions. We will bless the various creatures that live at or visit Saint Simeon’s on October 14, 2024 at 10:30 am in the Game Room in Assisted Living.

Remember. You may be familiar with All Saints’ Day (November 1) which commemorates all saints, known and unknown. In the New Testament, “saint” is applied to all faithful Christians (Acts 9:32, 26:10). Paul addresses his letters to saints who are members of Christian communities (i.e., Rom 1:7, Eph 1:1). A saint is someone who shares in the life of Christ. Historically, people felt the need to remember and honor those who are unknown to the wider church. All Souls’ Day (November 2) is a day to especially commemorate family members and friends who have died. We will remember and celebrate those Saint Simeon’s residents who died between November 2023 and October 2024 at our Annual Remembrance Service.

P. Anonymous, CNA
“I wanted to thank you for the special kindness, P gave to my husband, Mark. P is one of the CNA’s in Healthcare. She is always kind, thoughtful, and compassionate. Today she went out of her way to go to laundry twice to find a shirt that had been turned in to be labeled. Our daughter had given it to him for Father’s Day. It has special meaning for him because it has his badge printed on the shirt. Mark was very happy to have the shirt back. I wanted to let you know how much P’s extra effort meant to us.”

Chase Whitley, Maintenance Tech
Chase came in to change a buzzing light in my office and was very kind, professional, and quick. He explained everything he was doing, the amount of time it would take, and got the problem solved within an hour. I was impressed with his customer service! I am very happy he is here and a part of our team.
