We Need Your Help Songs by Heart, a program of the Tulsa Opera, visited our Healthcare Center and Assisted Living residents recently. Songs by Heart brings professional singers to communities to encourage the residents to engage by singing, gesturing, clapping, and conversing about the song selections. Our residents (and staff!) had a wonderful time!

A Time for Reflection

Advent, the four Sundays before Christmas, starts the church's New Year. January 1st is the start of the secular New Year. Yearends and beginnings are times for reflection.

Individually and/or communally, we can set aside some time to mindfully detect God's presence in our lives and to prayerfully discern God's direction for us. We can discover how God's hand is at work in our whole experience.

This Advent we read texts from the prophet Isaiah. Prophets, such as Isaiah, speak God's word into their time and context. Here are some questions to consider: They shall beat their swords into ploughshares (Isaiah 2:4). Spears that destroy and cut apart are turned into ploughshares used to plant and grow food to share.

Thinking about year-end giving?

The Saint Simeon's Foundation has two special opportunities for giving to consider this time of year. The Annual Fund and the Employee Appreciation Christmas Fund.

The Annual Fund is a general fund that ensures Saint Simeon's continues to provide exceptional senior care through our person-centered approach that focuses on providing the highest level of care while preserving the health and well-being of our Residents.

The Employee Appreciation Christmas Fund expresses appreciation from our Residents, families, and friends for the compassionate care given by the staff at Saint Simeon’s, which has been our calling card from day one.

What in our common life is unhelpful and can be repurposed for good?

A shoot shall come from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots (Isaiah 11:1). God's justice, wisdom, council, and might will be fostered...until the wolf lies down with the lamb.

What is already good that could be reapplied to new people or to a different purpose?

KRIS'S CARING CHAMPIONS Maria Bass, CNA, Memory Care — Winner During a recent Care Plan Meeting, a resident's family members expressed how pleased they are with the care environment and staff in the home, but they specifically wanted to recognize Maria. "Maria provides individualized care, not only to our mother, but to everyone in the home. Our mother doesn't usually like to come out, but Maria has a way of getting her to recently, and she has really enjoyed it. It truly feels like a 'home-like' setting."

When the people return from exile in Babylon, God transforms everything: all creatures, human beings, and the whole earth. The Israelites had endured much; much was yet to unfold. They are filled with joy (Isaiah 35:1-10).

How might we return the joy God has given us and share it with others?

God gives King Ahaz an ambiguous sign: before a child, who is soon to be born is weaned, he will gain a sense of right and wrong (Isaiah 7:1-16). God seeks our good and will not ignore our sin. The Psalmist makes a plea for restoration to a right relationship with God after being served the bread of tears to eat and bowls of tears to drink (80:5).

She is very kind and knowledgeable with new staff. She made the training process easy!"

For what do we need to repent? What relationships need to be restored?

During 2023 we will be reading from Matthew. Matthew's overarching message is the good news that God is Emmanuel, "God with us" (1:23). Jesus reminds us, "I am with you always, to the end of the age" (28:20).
