The 21st SAFYC Regatta (ILCA) took place on 30 and 31 March at the NSRCC Seasports Centre. With 83 sailors competing across three ILCA classes, it was one of the largest ILCA regattas hosted by SAFYC in recent years.
Day two began with similarly light winds, causing a slight delay. However, by noon the breeze had strengthened, and the Race Committee successfully conducted all three scheduled races for the day
Despite light winds of around 5 knots on the first day, the Race Committee managed to start on time Conditions improved throughout the day, allowing us to complete four races.
We ex pp and congratulate all participants and prize winners on a fantastic regatta.

My elder brother, Elijah, used to sail at SAFYC (Changi) every weekend before he was promoted to the National Team. So back then, I would be hanging around at the Club for a good few hours till his training was over—watching him rig up boat and sail, launching and training out at sea It looks so much fun to be out at sea and so I asked my parents to enrol me inGKA,togivesailingatrytoo!

The last series of the BTR was held on 17 May with 4 boats on the water. However, with mirror-like waters and no wind, the AP flag was flown at 2pm.
The sailors decided to launch in hopes that the winds would pick up At 2:12pm, Millennium 2 invited the other boats (including the RO) to come alongside her to raft up for some snacks and liquid carbs (BEER!).
After a good hour plus of conversations, snacks and beer, AP over A was flown at 3:30pm - signifying that races not started are postponed, nomoreracingfortheday
We are hopeful that the next BTR on 26 July will be a fun one, as the winds have started blowing from the West in the recent days! See youonthewater!

From 5 - 8 June 2025, SAF Yacht Club had the pleasure of hosting sailors from the Royal Thai Navy.
The Royal Thai Navy team arrived to a warm welcome from SAFYC team, with happy reunions as familiar faces met again. The day ended with a cosy welcome dinner hosted in their honour.
Article by: Ignatius Thiam
The sailors were up bright and early and headed straight to the race venue to rig their boats. After lunch, they launched for a practice race in ideal conditions, enjoying steady winds of 5–8 knots. The day ended on a thoughtful note, as the Royal Thai Navy treated a lovely thank-you dinner to the Singapore team — a warm gesture of appreciation and friendship.
The day kicked off with a Team Racing event a long-standing tradition in the Sing-Siam exchange. It was an exciting back-and-forth between Team Elephant and Team Lion. Team Elephant took the win in the Optimist Class, while Team Lion came out on top in theILCAClass.
Atexactly2pm,theRaceCommitteestartedtheafternoonraces,managingtorunthreesmoothracesin steady 10-knot winds. While the sailors were out racing, the support crew from the Royal Thai Navy and parents fired up a barbeque on shore to ensure something warm and delicious was ready for the hungryracers.Andtotopitalloff, thesailorswerewelcomedwithpizzaswhentheyreturned aperfect endtoanaction-packedday!
The final day began with almost no wind, resulting in a few hours of postponement. Thankfully, a light breeze picked up around 2p.m., allowing the last few races to proceed — though they proved to be quite tricky! It was the perfect opportunity for both Thai and Singaporean sailors to test their skills against each other.
After the races at NSRCC, everyone gathered at the SAFYC Clubhouse for the Closing Ceremony, where sailors exchanged small gifts — a wonderful gesture of friendship and camaraderie.
A huge thank you to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure our Thai guests had the warmest and most memorable visit.
We’re already looking forward to the next chapter of this exchange — see you in Sattahip in 2026!

I recently discovered the SAF Yacht Club, a tranquil oasis nestled at the end of Sembawang, surrounded by charming vintage bungalows. This seaside haven offers an unforgettable dining experience, with deliciously authentic Thai food that will transport your taste buds to the streets of Bangkok. The alfresco dining area provides stunning views of the sea, with the Johor developments visible across the shore.
Despite its popularity with families on weekends, the atmosphere remains quiet and cozy, perfect for a relaxing meal or a chill-out session. The club's diverse offerings, including an Izakaya, bistro, fish and prawn farm, and small community farm, make it an exciting destination for foodies and nature lovers alike.
Whether you're looking for a romantic evening or a family outing, SAF Yacht Club is an excellent choice The combination of great food, scenic views, and laid-back atmosphere makes it a must-visit destination in Singapore
Don't miss the opportunity to experience this hidden gem and indulge in a culinary adventure!
A Day in the Life of Suddin at SAFYC BytheWater,WithaSmile
If you’ve ever strolled past SAFYC's satelite training center at NSRCC and been greeted with a warm smile and a light-hearted joke, chances are you’ve met Suddin the man who keeps our boats afloat and our vibes high.
A familiar face around the Club, Suddin has been part of the SAFYC family for 20 years now, and his presence is as constant as the waves he works beside.
What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
Honestly, it’s the kids and their families. I see them almost every day, and it’s something I really look forward to. Plus, with my job, I get to be in the water every day and that alone makes me happy. The sea is where I feel most athome.
Whatdoesadayinyourworklooklike?
Most of the time, I’m looking after the boats checking their condition, doing prep work especiallywhenthere’s aregatta.Ialso make sure the Club is clean and safe, especiallyforthekids Itake alotofpridein that.Safetyanda smoothsailing experiencearetop priorities!
“If you see me around, come say hi or be warned, I might “disturb” you a little! Life’s too short to be serious all the time. Let’s keep things light, keep things moving, and always… spread the good vibes.
Tell us something about you that most peopledon’tknow.
Hmm, tough question. I think I’m quite an open book, but if I had to pick something, it’s probably that I really enjoy disturbing people inafunway, ofcourse!(Haha!)
I like to joke around and mess with people a little, even when they get annoyed. I don’t mean any harm it’s just my way of breaking the tension. Sometimes, it helps people loosen upandlaugh.
What kind of hobbies and interests do you haveoutsideofwork?
I like jogging, exercising, and swimming I try to keep myself fit. It’s important to take care of your body, especially when you’re constantlymovingaroundlikeIdo.
If you had a superpower, what would you wantthattobe?
I’d want the power to make people smile every day. Simple, right? But powerful. I believe in spreading good vibes, and if I can lift someone’s mood even just a little, then I’ve donesomethingright.
What’s your biggest achievement so far in life?
I’ve had the chance to travel a lot when I was younger, which I’m really grateful for. My kids are grown now, and I’m in a more relaxed phase of life. I get to enjoy being by the water every day, and that’s a blessing. I’m actually planning a trip to Korea soon hoping to do some hiking there. I’ve reached a stage where I have the freedom to do what I love, and that feels like a big win.
