On 7 November 2024, SAFYC hosted students and teachers from Southview Primary School for an engaging Student Career Day. The event aimed to inspire young minds about potential career paths in the Nautical sector while providing them with a firsthand look at our vibrant club.
The Marketing and Membership team warmly welcomed the students and shared interesting facts and insights about SAF Yacht Club. To kick off the session, they presented engaging videos that showcased the Club's rich history, as well as short clips highlighting the diverse roles within the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN).
After the presentations, the students took a guided tour of the Club, where they observed our daily operations. They witnessed how our Marina team expertly manages the boats, from storing them in the multi-stack facility to launching them into the water.
A highlight of the day was a hands-on session at the Sailor's Corner. Our Seasports Manager, Jason Swee, demonstrated various essential knots for sailing. The students actively participated, practising different knots under Jason’s expert guidance. Their excitement was palpable as they mastered these skills, leading to a newfound appreciation for the art of sailing.
To conclude the session, we hosted a brief question-and-answer segment, allowing students to reflect on their experiences. Those who answered correctly received small prizes, which added an extra layer of fun to the day.
As a welcome gift, each student received a souvenir from RSN to commemorate their visit to our club.
The day was not only educational but also an excellent opportunity for students to connect with the nautical industry
We are thrilled to have welcomed Southview Primary School and look forward to inspiring more young minds in the future!
At the suggestions from our dedicated Members, we have established a community garden that is currently under construction. Located near the sea, our garden will soon be ready for planting. All produce harvested will be donated to a local community in need We will be inviting our Members to participate in harvesting activities. Please keep an eye on our social media for more information.
This year, Sing-Siam Regatta was hosted by our Thai partner, the Royal Thai Navy and from 21 to 24 November 2024, the SAF Yacht Club sailors travelled to Sattahip, Thailand for this yearly event.
Representing SAFYC at the event were seven Optimist sailors and one ILCA sailor.
Upon arriving in Sattahip, the Singapore team received a warm welcome from the Thai organizers at the airport.
In the evening, the team attended the Opening Dinner hosted by the Royal Thai Navy. This gracious welcome helped establish a friendly atmosphere among the participants, fostering camaraderie for the event.
**Day 2**
The second day began with an exciting team race, where sailors from SAFYC partnered with their counterparts from the Royal Thai Navy. This friendly competition fostered collaboration and facilitated mutual learning.
The day continued with three fleet races, during which our sailors encountered light and challenging winds, putting their skills and strategic thinking to the test.
In the evening, SAFYC hosted a Thank You Dinner to express our gratitude to our Thai hosts for their exceptional hospitality.
On the third day, a scenic passage race took place, where sailors navigated around the beautiful islands of Sattahip. This unique race allowed participants to enjoy breathtaking views while showcasing their endurance and sailing skills
The regatta concluded with a prize presentation that celebrated the achievements and sportsmanship of all the participants
The Sing-Siam Regatta was not just a test of skill; it was also a celebration of friendship and cultural exchange. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Royal Thai Navy for their warm hospitality and support throughout the event.
Thank you Royal Thai Navy for your Hospitality.
See you next year in Singapore!
The 47th ILCA Open kicked off successfully on 7 December 2024, with the D Flag raised at 10.40 am. This signalled the sailors to launch their boats and prepare at the race site.
This ranking regatta took place from 7 - 8 December 2024, featuring a total of 66 sailors across all three fleets.
Participants were greeted with sunny, clear skies and, most importantly, favorable winds! On the first day, four races were conducted across all three fleets, and there were no protests.
On Day 2, the D flag was flown at 10 30 am It was another clear day, but the race course faced shifty offshore winds.
Despite the challenging conditions, the Race Officials managed to run an additional four races, concluding the event with a total of eight races, which allowed for one discard.
The wind was strong during the final race, leading to two ILCA 6s suffering broken masts. Unfortunately, one of them had to retire from the race.
