Healthy habits for students and families

As we prepare for a new school year, establish habits that support your student’s physical and mental health. These habits benefit the entire family and can help manage the demands on both students and parents. Try implementing one habit at a time and focus on doing it well, as small changes are easier to manage than many changes at once.

Let’s get moving Students, along with many adults, sit for up to 8.5 hours a day. They need more movement than just P.E. class. Go for an evening walk, join a school team, or engage in local activities. Movement improves mood and sparks creativity! Instead of scrolling through social media or watching a show, go for a family walk, play catch or have a dance party.

Turn down the noise

Create a quiet space at home to minimize interruptions and help everyone focus. Schedule family quiet times, keeping screens and phones away. Even parents benefit from some quiet after a long day.

Get organized

As the school year progresses, activities and projects increase. Use a planner or shared family calendar so everyone knows what’s going on. It helps organize schedules and track deadlines, reducing stress and overbooking.

Quality sleep

Sleep is crucial for the success of healthy habits. Lack of sleep affects weight, concentration, emotions, and behavior. Each age group experiences different impacts, from sleepiness and focus issues to emotional and behavioral problems.

Ask theDoctor

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The health and well-being of your children and family is our priority. As your child returns to the classroom, this may include immunizations for school-age children and other members of your family. We encourage you to consider the signi cant bene ts of vaccinations for measles, HPV, whooping cough, and meningitis.

MEASLES

Vaccinating against measles not only protects your child from this highly contagious disease but also contributes to community immunity, safeguarding those who can't be vaccinated.

HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS (HPV)

The HPV vaccine helps prevent certain cancers and genital warts. Protecting your child now ensures a healthier future with reduced cancer risk.

WHOOPING COUGH

Vaccinating against whooping cough is essential for preventing this severe respiratory illness, which can be particularly dangerous for infants and young children.

MENINGITIS

The meningitis vaccine protects against potentially life-threatening infections of the brain and spinal cord. It provides peace of mind, knowing your child is protected from serious complications.

We understand that decisions about vaccinations can be challenging, and we are here to support you with any questions or concerns. Together, we can help ensure a healthy future for our children.

Warm regards, Dr. Yanina Queen
