FEDERAL UPDATES
Did you know? In California, Medicaid is called Medi-Cal.
What is Medicaid? Medicaid is a joint federal and state government program that provides free or low-cost health coverage to people with low income (pregnant women, families with children, older adults and people with disabilities).
Loss of Medi-Cal Enrollment Support (Effective July 1, 2025)
• $60,000 in funding eliminated
• This supported two team members who help our patients sign up for health insurance.
AmeriCorps Program Funding Cut (Effective July 1, 2025)
• $17,500 eliminated
• This funding supported an intern working on community health projects and outreach. Despite the cuts, we were happy to continue to fund the program.
Freeze on Medi-Cal Enrollment for Undocumented Adults (Effective January 1, 2026)
• Adults with an “Unsatisfactory Immigration Status” will no longer be able to newly enroll in Medi-Cal.
• We estimate this could result in $672,000 in lost revenue each year.
End of Reimbursement for Undocumented Patients
(Effective July 1, 2026)
• We may no longer be reimbursed for primary care and mental health services provided to these patients.
• This could lead to a $3.3 million loss in revenue per year.
Elimination of Full Dental Benefits for Undocumented Patients
(Effective July 1, 2026)
• Loss of dental care coverage for some of our most vulnerable patients.
• Estimated $608,000 in lost revenue.
These cuts jeopardize essential services for thousands of people who rely on us for compassionate, accessible care. No matter what lies ahead, we remain committed to showing up for our patients and delivering the care they deserve.
Thank you for continuing to stand with us.

GABBY SABAN PATIENT

For decades, Saban Community Clinic has been a safe and trusted place for countless Angelenos, including those in the entertainment industry—actors, crew members, writers, artists, and others working behind the scenes—who’ve had nowhere else to turn for medical, dental, and mental health care. Especially in recent years, as the entertainment industry faces unprecedented challenges, we are seeing more individuals than ever walk through our doors in search of hope, healing, and dignity.
Thousands of patients, many of them freelance or gig workers without traditional health coverage, depend on us for their long-term well-being. With five locations throughout Hollywood and West Hollywood we are a reliable resource for so many.
Gabby is a talented actress who has been in the business for two decades. While her acting and voiceover credits are numerous and from many shows we all know and love, keeping steady health coverage is a struggle.

Hear the touching stories of patients who depend on Saban for their care!
“When I have a good year, I qualify for the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) insurance, but it’s hard to count on,” says Gabby.
While acting is her passion, she finds work wherever she can to make ends meet, including babysitting, personal assistant work, caregiving or any odd jobs she can pick up. This temporary work allows her to be available when she books a job. And through the years, between medical and dental care, Gabby has been able to keep her health a priority, not having to worry about choosing between paying rent or going to a doctor. “The Clinic is always there for me when I need it,” says Gabby.
Your support allows us to continue providing high-quality, compassionate care to everyone who walks through our doors, including those who make the industry vibrant but often go unseen and unsupported.
We fondly remember our dear friend Bob Broder, a beloved former board member and past president of the governing board of Saban Community Clinic. For more than 20 years, Bob dedicated his time, leadership and expertise to guide the Clinic through the expansion of sites and services, an ever-changing health care landscape, and an unprecedented global pandemic.
Bob worked tirelessly to raise the profile of the Clinic in the community. He was a fierce and steadfast advocate on behalf of the most vulnerable in Los Angeles, and he was unwavering in his commitment to Saban’s mission and its vision to achieve health equity and transform lives in Los Angeles.
Beyond the Clinic, Bob was a legend in the TV industry for half a century. In 1978 he founded the Broder Kurland Agency which was acquired by ICM nearly 30 years later. During his time as an agent he represented and packaged series including Cheers,

Frasier, The X-Files, Two And A Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family and more. In 2012, he moved to Chuck Lorre Productions where he managed all business operations.
Bob’s generous spirit transformed the lives of countless entertainment professionals who looked up to him as a mentor and thousands of patients who walked through the Clinic’s doors. He is survived by his wife Cindy and his two children. He will be deeply missed.
The Clinic remembers friend and supporter Patricia Crowley, who passed away on September 14th. Patricia was an actress who appeared in dozens of shows and films including Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, Dynasty and General Hospital. She was a fixture at the Clinic’s Gala year after year and was passionate about giving back to the community where she raised her family. Patricia is survived by her two children, as well as her beloved husband, Friends of Saban Community Clinic board member, Andy Friendly. She will be missed.
