AUGUST - OCTOBER 2025

Dear Members,

AUGUST - OCTOBER 2025
Dear Members,
It is with sadness that I begin this report informing of the passing of Director Dennis Petkovich. Dennis had been a member of Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club for over 30 years, joining in 1993. Through his growing involvement and steadfast support of the Club’s vision and values, he was elected as a Director by the members in 2001. Dennis served in the army for over 20 years then gained business experience in managing TAB operations. Dennis, from the start, took great pride in being a very active Director and representing the club and members on various committees and functions as required. Our thoughts are with Dennis and we thank him for his service.
The Board have reviewed the constitution and discussed options that will best assist the club moving forward following this vacancy. Following this, the board have moved to open an Expression of Interest to enable suitable members the opportunity to take part in a casual vacancy with the board to develop their skills in this area and contribute to the community and our strategy. This person can hold the casual position for a time up to the next elections in November 2026. We are very fortunate at Ryde Eastwood to have so many people who would add great value to our club through their community and other experience. We have members that represent many sporting and community clubs, as well as those who have already been part of club activities and development into an active involvement in the club’s governing body through induction courses and other information sessions. This only reassures the board that there will
be suitable members that will add value to the club’s ongoing operation and strategy.
Your club, Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club, has for many years been recognised as one of the more prominent and successful clubs in our industry. It is important for the board and management that we not only maintain our high standards but continue to strive to higher levels, which I am confident of achieving. As I stated some time ago, the future of our club is dependent on our members. We need leaders for our club not only for tomorrow but well into the future to maximise the huge potential your club has. Next time you attend a Learn to Swim class, Sub Club event, sporting game, a community club meeting, or any of the events we hold for those of all ages, you may be looking at a future club Director of the club. When I asked the President of the Leagues Club in 1995, when he asked if I was interested in being a Director, because of the number of members who had been there longer than I, he answered, “It’s not whose turn it is, it is who is best for the future of Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club.” Those words of wisdom will stay with me forever.
Thank you, members, for your loyalty and participation at “your club.” We look forward to you joining us moving forward to a bright and prosperous future for your club and your community.
Warm regards,
James (Jim) McClymont President
It is with sadness that the Club Board, Management, and Staff share the news of the passing of Director Dennis Petkovich.
Dennis had been a member of Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club for over 30 years, joining in 1993. Through his growing involvement and steadfast support of the Club’s vision and values, he was elected as a Director by the Members in 2001.
Dennis served loyally and professionally as a key member of the Board and took great pride in representing the Members for 24 years. He was a Life Member of Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club and had also served his country in the Army for over 20 years.
We extend our thoughts and heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by us all.

Dear Members,
Welcome to our August 2025 Journal! We hope that you, your friends, family, and the broader community have been enjoying the fantastic offerings our club has provided so far this year.
It’s a real pleasure to share the exciting promotions, events, and experiences coming up at the club. We begin August with the major draw for our $250,000 Cash and Car Giveaway, where one lucky member will win a stunning BMW and others will have the opportunity to take home up to $150,000 in cash. Following this, we launch into our $70,000 Spring into Cash Draws, which will run throughout August, September, and October, alongside our Grand Rewards promotions across the quarter.
We’ve also got some wonderful events to look forward to, including Father’s Day celebrations with over $4,000 in prizes, raffles, and draws, along with a range of delicious meal options. Our NRL Grand Final weekend promises to be a highlight, with tickets to be won and exciting offers throughout the week. Planning is also well underway for a refreshed and vibrant Melbourne Cup event, featuring a fantastic buffet, entertainment, cash prizes, and draws throughout the day. These promotions will run across both Ryde-Eastwood and Club Thirroul, ensuring great experiences at both venues for all our members and guests to enjoy.
On the entertainment front, we’re thrilled to be welcoming some fantastic shows to the club. Members can look forward to performances from The Queen Show, The Vallies, and Beatle Magic. Our popular Ryde Retro Nights continue to draw great crowds, and we’re excited to have Jellybean Jam back once again to keep the energy high.
We’re also very excited about the continued progress of our Seniors Village vision, The Riverly. We’ve recently held productive meetings with Council and state departments, working to ensure this development delivers genuine value and benefit to the community. We’re hopeful that Stage 2 Development Application approval will be received very soon. In preparation, we’re planning to host member and community information sessions in October and November, offering a chance for everyone to learn more about this incredible opportunity and what will be available. We look forward to welcoming future residents into our community and bringing this vision to life.
Our focus remains on shaping the club’s future in a way that meets the evolving needs of our members and the wider community. We’ve continued developing our Master Plan through the Planning Proposal process and are working closely with Ryde Council and other stakeholders to refine our vision. This will help us ensure the club continues to be a place of connection, enjoyment, and growth. I’d like to thank all the members who participated in recent surveys, as your feedback is invaluable and plays a big role in shaping the future of our club.
Lastly, I remind all members to renew your membership to continue enjoying the fantastic benefits available at both Ryde-Eastwood and Club Thirroul. Thank you for being a valued part of the Ryde-Eastwood family. We look forward to seeing you at the club soon!
Warm regards,
Carl Pozzato Chief Executive Officer

Thanks to the incredible support of our members, staff, and communities at both Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club and Club Thirroul, we proudly raised a remarkable $8,000 this year for the Cancer Council.

From our Biggest Morning Tea Gala Lunch at Ryde to the Morning Tea with our Lady Bowlers at Thirroul, every cup of tea and every contribution makes a difference in the lives of those battling Cancer. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved. Together, we’ve truly brewed up something special for a great cause.

In a show of support for pancreatic cancer awareness, Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club proudly donated 70 pairs of purple socks to the Ryde-Eastwood Hawks Football Club as part of the “Play in Purple” initiative by the Pankind Foundation. Last weekend, the Hawks wore their purple socks on the field, standing united with hundreds of grassroots clubs across Australia to help shine a light on one of the country’s deadliest cancers. The initiative encourages local sporting communities to swap their usual socks for purple ones during a designated game, promoting the importance of early detection, healthy living, and social connection in the fight against pancreatic cancer.

As we head into the final stretch of the season, here’s an update on how our teams are tracking across all competitions. It’s been an eventful year so far with plenty of highlights, some challenges, and exciting opportunities ahead.
RON
The Ron Massey squad has had a very impressive season to date. We currently sit in 3rd position on the ladder, with a strong record of 10 wins, 1 draw, and only 3 losses. At the time of writing, we are on a positive run, having won 5 of our last 6 games, with the only blemish being a controversial draw. Coach David Gower has done a fantastic job keeping the team focused, disciplined, and performing at a high level each week. With only 4 rounds remaining in the regular season, we are building some great momentum as we head into the finals series. The team’s consistency and work ethic have laid a solid platform for what we hope will be a deep finals campaign.
SYDNEY SHIELD:
Our Sydney Shield side has had a mixed season so far, with results fluctuating throughout. We currently sit in 8th
position on the ladder, four points outside the top 5 and still in with a chance of making a late push for the finals. The team has recorded 6 wins and 8 losses, and while we’ve had moments of strong form, inconsistency has made it difficult to climb higher. Despite this, the playing group remains committed and determined to finish the season strongly, and there’s still belief within the squad that we can turn things around and sneak into the finals with a strong finish over the remaining rounds.
This season’s A Grade competition has proven to be quite a unique challenge. With only five teams competing, the draw has included frequent byes, making it difficult for the team to build any real rhythm or continuity. This stop-start format has disrupted our momentum and cohesion at times. Additionally, as part of our club’s structure, all of our grades are connected through a tiered system, feeding players upward into higher levels—including NSW Cup (Wests Magpies) and the NRL (Wests Tigers).
As a result, injuries in the higher grades often have a direct flow-on effect down
to A Grade. Currently, we’re dealing with a number of injuries across all levels, and it’s been one of those challenging seasons where depth has been truly tested.
That said, we’re proud of how the squad has handled adversity and stayed committed to the cause. With the finals approaching, we remain excited and hopeful about what the next few weeks will bring. There’s still plenty of football to be played, and we know this group has the heart and talent to make a strong finish.
So to all of our supporters—come along to our last few games and cheer the Mighty Hawks to victory!
As I always say, watch this space. See you at the games!
M Chapple, President RERLFC

Our Biggest Morning Tea raised over $2,700 for cancer research—an outstanding result we hope to build on next year.
We welcomed four new members recently, with more expected to join at our upcoming Friendship Day.
Our Open Pennants team did Club Thirroul proud by qualifying for the finals series but went down in a close semi final by three shots. It was the first time Club Thirroul had made the Open Pennants playoffs so it was a great effort by the players involved.
The Club Thirroul $5000 Seaside Classic Triples Tournament held in early May was quite the success. Held in glorious sunshine over two days it was a visiting team from the strong St John’s Park Bowling Club that took out top honours. Feedback from players was excellent. Well run tournament, great lunch on the Saturday (if Max says it’s good, it’s good) and wonderful club facilities. All teams indicated they’d want to play again next year.
In May, we proudly celebrated our 69th birthday, joined by General Manager Michelle for a special lunch.
The Club Selected Fours championship is underway, and four of our members are competing at the Australian Open in Queensland, delivering strong performances.
We’re looking forward to our Presentation Night on 12 July and would be delighted to welcome a Ryde-Eastwood representative.
A heartfelt thank you to Ryde-Eastwood for your continued support—it makes all we do possible.
We look forward to our upcoming Presentation Night, where we will celebrate a great year of Women’s and Men’s bowls at Club Thirroul.
