BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Dear Members,

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

James (Jim) McClymont

As we move into the second half of the year I trust all members have been well.

The club industry today is highly regulated, and rightly so. We as Board and Management are responsible for managing not only cash and other resources but the assets and interests of all our members. These regulations ensure that all Directors are well-qualified and continually updated with relevant training and information to assist.

In the near future we have Local Government, possible Federal and our Ryde Eastwood Directors election. For Ryde Eastwood Leagues we are again at election time. How things have changes since I was elected to the Board in 1995. As was said to me when I questioned the decision makers on when I was asked to first be a director then President “it is not a popularity contest or whose turn it is but who is best to provide the future of Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club”. I have never forgotten those words, I am very proud to be President of a conscientious and knowledgeable Board leading a great management team and staff that service our members above and beyond enabling us to continue to be a leader in our field.

I feel it is important to be “Loud and Proud” of our club and encourage all of us involved (including members) to also be proud of your club. I have had many proud moments regarding Ryde-Eastwood and Thirroul, far too many to mention individually but want to highlight two recent occasions at the 2024 NSW Club awards presentations. Our club was a finalist in two categories: Fostering Grass Roots Sport and Health Care.

In the Heath Care category our entry “All for the Kids” detailed how for 27 years staff have been fundraising for the Children’s Medical Research Institute at Westmead Hospital in the Jeans for Genes Day and an annual fun run. The club matched the money raised by staff which meant the staff was able to donate over $117,000.00 since it started. Also, in the Grass Roots Sports category “Young Girls to Diamonds” we told of your club who is a major sponsor of Eastwood-Ryde Netball Association (ERNA) nurturing local talent from grass roots to the elite Australian Diamonds team. This is just a couple of examples of how your club supports the local and wider community.

It seems there are detractors of our club industry at times that seem to get plenty of publicity and at the same time our industry is very poor at demonstrating the many valuable things we do for our communities. All members should be proud of the fact that each time you attend your club for you are supporting your own and other communities. You don’t have to go back too far to remember the fires, floods and other natural disasters etc where the clubs are one of the first to give assistance. Clubs are an important part of so many people’s lives so I for one will be “Loud and Proud” and I invite you all to be the same.

Thanking you once again for all your valuable support, see you in the Club

Please be advised that the Club has activated Player Accounts for all members. This functionality has been implemented across all venues within the Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club Group.

The security of money in player accounts is the responsibility of both the registered club and the account holder. The government and its agencies take no responsibility for any losses that might occur from the account.

An account holder is solely responsible for ensuring that the account holder’s personal identification number (“PIN”) is kept confidential, and that no other person has access to the account holder’s player card. The account holder is liable for any losses that might arise from, or in connection with, the account holder’s failure to comply with such responsibilities.

All members are able to opt out of the Club’s player reward scheme at any time. If you do not wish to participate in the Club’s player reward scheme, please contact the Membership Office at Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club. Player activity statements are available on request. Weekly account limits can be set and updated at any time by written notice to the Club.

COMMUNITY Update

The first quarter of 2024 has seen us involved with some key community initiatives. It is always pleasing to get out and about to visit some of the wonderful groups we support or are able to host at the club, some of these are below.

EMBRACING SUSTAINABILITY: WEST RYDE’S 2024 FESTIVAL

On June 2 the West Ryde community came together once again to celebrate and champion sustainability at the annual festival which due to wet weather the event was held in the Ryde Eastwood Leagues carpark. Attendees were treated to a diverse array of activities and initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability in everyday life. Local businesses and organisations showcased their innovative approaches to sustainability, highlighting products and services that prioritise environmental responsibility. From organic food stalls to upcycled art exhibitions, the festival underscored the importance of supporting eco-friendly practices in both consumption and production. The festival served as a testament to the town’s commitment to environmental stewardship and eco-conscious living.

BEANIES FOR BRAIN CANCER

Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club and Ryde Hawks Football Club joined forces to support the Mark Hughes Foundation’s “Beanies for Brain Cancer” 2024 campaign. Embracing the campaign’s mission to raise awareness and funds for brain cancer research, we saw many of our members eagerly participating and supporting the cause alongside our staff and the Hawks Football community.

BIGGEST MORNING TEA UPDATE

Thank you to our members who attended this year’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea on May 7, 2024, at RydeEastwood Leagues Club. Funds were raised through Gala Lunch ticket sales, the Coffee Club BMT deal during May, and proceeds from our raffles on Tuesday, May 7. Additionally, the Board of Directors made generous contributions, bringing the total donation to $4,000 in support of cancer research and support services.

We have now prepared a Concept Master Plan (Master Plan) for the Club site to guide this transformation in a considered way. This Master Plan aims to:

• Deliver an improved Club for our members including more food and beverage options, fitness facilities, event spaces and outdoor spaces to enjoy.

• Provide more homes for key workers living in our community including childcare, medical and emergency services staff.

Our local junior clubs—Dundas Shamrocks, North Ryde Hawks, Carlingford Cougars, and Holy Cross Rhinos—are all thriving. These clubs are

the foundation of our future, nurturing young talent and fostering a love for the game. Their success this season is a promising sign for the years to come.

None of this would be possible without the unwavering support from the Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club and our other sponsors. Your contributions and encouragement are vital to our success. Your belief in our teams and commitment to our mission drive us to excel.

As we move into the latter half of the season, we are excited about the prospects and challenges ahead. Our teams are in healthy positions within their respective competitions, and we are determined to finish the season strong. COMMUNITY Update

A MESSAGE FROM BOWLS PRESIDENT LEE CHAPMAN

On the 27th June 2024 our club Thirroul Ladies grade 3 pennants team held the unfurling of the District flag that was won earlier in the year in the triumphant win over Bowral. On the day the ladies celebrated with the District Executive, Representatives from Ryde and Thirroul. During the celebration I proudly had the opportunity to be interviewed by Win TV who came to support our club and televise the interview on the evening news.

I would like to thank the Board for its ongoing support and how grateful we are to be a part of such a wonderful club. I would also like to thank our amazing Manager Michelle for her continual support and dedication to our Club and community. I would also like to thank Nicole Hendley for taking the time to celebrate our success.
