5th Place ~ Eaglebrook Tournament

The Rumsey Hall Boys Varsity Soccer program found great success in the 2022-2023 season. It was evident after the first couple of practices that this group had a significant amount of talent. After winning the first two games of the season we began to build the trust, chemistry, and camaraderie that makes an impressive team. With a strong midfield controlling the pace of the game and feeding goal scoring machines up front, the goals poured in. The tight defensive team made sure that any counter attacks were dealt with quickly and effectively. With such a skilled, tight, unified team, to mention individuals would not do the team justice. You know who you are. We rolled through the season only dropping one game to our rivals IMS which led to a passionate standoff on the last day of the season under the lights at Hotchkiss. After years of being the underdogs, this team was ready to rewrite the history books and after 6 minutes the Blue Dogs drew first blood. The unity of our team kept IMS at bay for the rest of the game and they didn’t stand a chance. We left the Hotchkiss field victors and made memories to last a lifetime. Thank you boys. This was definitely a season to remember forever.

Rumsey’s Girls Soccer team had an exceptionally successful season, filled with determination, teamwork, and thrilling victories. From the start, it was evident that this group of athletes was committed to excellence and driven to achieve their goals. They trained diligently, honing their skills, improving their strategies, and building strong bonds of camaraderie. Their hard work and perseverance paid off as they dominated the field, showcasing their exceptional talent and cohesive play. Match after match, the team demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and unwavering determination, leading to a string of impressive wins. The strong defensive line thwarted countless opponent attacks, while our skilled midfield and strikers consistently found the back of the net. Rumsey outscored their opponents 89-38 this season. The team's unity and communication were evident in their fluid passing and seamless coordination. It was a season to remember, and we want to thank our Captains Shawn Clarke and Elena Cosgirff for their exceptional leadership through example. We wish the best of luck to these Seniors and talented under-Formers who are moving on to new teams - Gigi, Katie C., Mila, Annabel, Bella, Ally,

Jazzy, Erin, Natalie, Hope, Lucy, Ava, Migyong, and Vieth. You all have left huge shoes to fill and will be greatly missed. Congratulations to each and every player for their incredible achievements and for exemplifying the true essence of teamwork and determination.

Carry Award: Brooklynn Romaniello Dua Lipa Award: Louise Traina

The Varsity Field Hockey season was very successful this fall. We had many girls graduate which meant many open spots to fill! Luckily, we had a strong JV program last year that allowed us to fill those spots with ease. We had fantastic chemistry that led to solid corners and the team worked hard to use the width of the field to our advantage. With a 10-1-1 record, we had many highlights. Some of our favorite memories were our new players scoring their first goal, and our first penalty stroke taken by Abby Butler! (Yes, she made it!) Congratulations girls on a wonderful season!

VARSITY VOLLEYBALL

2nd Place Rick Spooner Volleyball Classic

All-Tournament Team Members: Ariel Battey & Madeline Barto

The 2022 Varsity Volleyball team was full of many new faces, with two new coaches and only four returning players. Though there was no longer anyone from the Spooner family at the helm, we still held strong to the traditions and spirit that Sensei Spooner began the program with and Mrs. Linley embodied for many years. It took some time to find harmony between our fighting spirit and the calm needed to move the ball effectively. Eventually, we found our “toushi wa” and ended the season with more wins than losses and 2nd place at the Spooner Classic. The success was due in great measure to the B program and all the talented players there as well. We look forward to many of them joining us next year. As coaches, we applaud the team’s adaptability, progress, and camaraderie. Seniors, we will miss you greatly next year- all 11 of you! You have left the team in a great place! We will never forget glowin-the-dark volleyball at the end of the season and all the good singalongs on the bus. Best wishes to all for an excellent summer, hopefully with lots of beach volleyball!

This was a good season for football, one of the longest established teams at Rumsey Hall. We started the season at Williston, and had a great showing at their annual Jamboree. We got to compete against Williston, Eaglebrook, and Fessenden. Our players made us proud, and showed all they had learned. We then went to our first game Avon, a good team win highlighted by a game stoppage for a black bear! We had a great season, 5-2 on the year. We ended the season at Brunswick. We knew they were undefeated at 7-0, and this was the last game of the season for both squads. We played a wonderful game with highlight plays on both sides of the ball, including a 4th and long that we converted into a touchdown. Congratulations on a great season! Thank you to the Seniors moving on to new fields, thank you for all you meant to this team. You have left us in a better place, with a strong cast of returning starters and promising players ready to step up and continue the proud tradition of Rumsey Football.

CROSS COUNTRY

Record: 4 - 3

Coaches: Mrs. Dyball & Ms. Kusmer

Captain: Carter Giese

Coaches’ Award: Andrew Roraback

Blue Dog Award: Carson Bennett

This fall’s Cross Country season was unique for a variety of reasons. For many of our runners, this was their first racing season, many of them brand new to the sport. After coaching a large co-ed team last year, Coaches Kusmer and Dyball were excited to see what they could accomplish with a small team of all boys, only four of which were returning runners. Every day, the boys showed up and worked hard, inspired by losses against IMS early in the season to run harder and faster every week. This dedication and hard work paid off, and with the steady leadership of Carter Giese as team Captain and the fast times of Carson Bennet and Brady Curtiss, the Rumsey Hall Boys Cross Country team ended the season with four wins and three losses, but many personal records and great memories.

There were eight races in the Housatonic Mountain Biking League season, with our riders steadily improving each race. By the end of the season, a few of the Blue Dog Bikes team found themselves in the top five amongst over a hundred high school riders. The season concluded with a Championship Race at Norbrook trails and the first ever junior division cup.

WINTER 2023

BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL

Record: 14 - 0

Coach: Mr. Dodge

Captains: Jaiden Allen & Xavier Sanchez

MVP: Aaden Walters

MIP: Xavier Sanchez

Blue Dog Award: Jaiden Allen

The 2022-23 Boys Basketball Team was the talk of the town this past winter, and for good reason - they went undefeated! This talented group of young athletes dominated the court all season long, impressing fans and opponents alike with their impressive skills, teamwork, and tenacity. The Blue Dogs had proven themselves to be a force to be reckoned with. Their lightning-fast passes, precision shots, and fierce defensive maneuvers kept their opponents on their toes, leaving them struggling to keep up with the Blue Dog's unstoppable momentum. But it's not just their impressive physical abilities that have earned this team their undefeated record. They are a true team in every sense of the word, with each member playing a vital role in their success. Whether they're cheering each other on from the sidelines or diving for a loose ball on the court, this group of athletes knows how to work together to achieve their goals. Coach Dodge couldn’t be more proud of this team's success. “Let’s run it back boys!”

The Girls Varsity Basketball team had an incredible season, filled with numerous achievements and memorable moments. From the very start, it was clear that this team was very special, as they displayed exceptional teamwork, skill, and determination in every game they played. Their hard work and

dedication paid off as they went on to win most of their games and finished the season with an impressive record. Throughout the season, the girls demonstrated a great understanding of the game and a willingness to learn and improve. They consistently executed our four-out offense with precision and worked together to make sure everyone had a chance to contribute. The team's strong defense also played a significant role in their success, as they were able to shut down their opponents and prevent them from scoring. It was truly a remarkable season, and everyone involved with the team was proud of what they accomplished. Good luck to everyone who is heading to a new school next year! We are already looking forward to next season.

VARSITY SKI TEAM

Record: 1 - 7

Coach: Mrs. Kappler

Captains: Katherine Cashel & Sol Park

Coach’s Awards: Matthew Blaicher & Owen Whitcombe Blue Dog Award: Tomas Manzano

The 2023 Varsity Ski Team set out to ski hard, compete with grace, and have a lot of fun on the slopes. Although small in number this season, we brought a great deal of energy and talent to the mountain each day. The team was composed of 11 talented boys and girls with skills that ranged from seasoned racers to those with strong foundational skiing skills that were new to racing. While on the mountain during both practices and races, the skiers exhibited a strong sense of sportsmanship, cooperation and camaraderie. Throughout the season, they fought hard against their opponents Housatonic, Harvey, Dutchess Day, Washington Montessori and IMS. With strong skiing throughout the league, Rumsey often finished in the middle of the pack. Each skier showed great improvement on the snow in their own individual ways ranging from the basics like body positioning and finding their edges, to the larger team goals of reading a course and making smart decisions about how to approach a gate. Every skier played an integral role in our success this season as did their amazingly supportive families.

Our season highlight was winning the Upland Tournament and coming home with the Finnish Friendship Cup. We ended the season with a second-place finish in the annual Pavek Cup and an outdoor win against IMS under the lights. The future for Rumsey Boys Varsity Ice Hockey looks bright

as we welcome back 10 returners. Coaches Butler and Beach would like to congratulate the whole team on a job well done!

The 2022-23 Girls Varsity Hockey team featured the perfect mix of talent, experience, and Blue Dog spirit to put a successful 11-8 season in the books. After losing the home opener to a formidable Upland team, the girls won the next three games and made the trip to Kennett Square to compete in the Upland tournament. The Blue Dogs finished 3rd in Pennsylvania and returned home for the most competitive stretch of the season, facing off against strong teams from Canterbury, Taft, Kent, Hotchkiss, Westminster, and Berkshire. In mid-February, the Blue Dogs hosted their own Annual Hockey Invitational. Strong offensive play and clutch goaltending led to a 3-0 tournament record including a thrilling 4-3 win against Upland. The girls were crowned tournament champions and awarded the newly-christened Przygocki Cup. We wish Lucy, Abby, Victoria, Phoebe, Shawn, and Gigi all the best next year and we look forward to another successful season in 2023-24!

As the vibrant colors of spring bloomed, Rumsey Hall Crew embarked on a memorable season, culminating in a glorious victory at the Lower Boat Championship. With unwavering determination and commitment, the team dedicated countless hours to mastering strokes, synchronizing movements, and building endurance. Through harsh wind, cold, and waves, the crew forged a bond that extended beyond mere teammates to become a tight-knit family. Strength and unity grew with each stroke, propelling us

forward with unwavering resolve. As the season progressed, hard work paid off, and we found ourselves standing at the starting line of the championship race, heartbeats pulsing with anticipation. VARSITY BASEBALL

Record: 7 - 5

Coaches: Messrs. Perreault & Dyball

Captain: Michael Dell’Aera & Paul (Ellis) O’Dwyer

MVP: Brett Rubino MIP: Owen Whitcombe

Coaches’ Award: Cooper Bunce Blue Dog Award: Paul (Ellis) O’Dwyer

After a tough 2022, spent trying to find the win column, the Varsity Baseball team came into the season looking to rebound. With returning VIIth Form starters, Mikey Dell’Aera and Ellis O’Dwyer leading the way, the team began the season with renewed optimism, ready to prove that Blue Dog Baseball was back. With another year under their belt, returning players Uli Linn and Grafton Reilly increased their production at the plate and provided solid defense in the middle infield. The addition of two big bats in the middle of the lineup, and consistency on the mound, with Brett Rubino and Cooper Bunce gave the team a solid core of talented players. Several other new editions including Aaden Walters, Brady Curtiss, Owen Whitcombe, and Anthony Walters anchored the outfield and provided timely hitting. The highlight of the season was definitely getting revenge for last year’s losses to IMS, winning both games in convincing fashion. A huge thank you to our three Seniors for their consistent effort this season. Their ability to bring our team together and raise expectations, all while keeping the game fun, will certainly be missed. The team will return 10 out of the 14 players next season and looks to build upon the success of this years’ team. GO BLUE DOGS!

VARSITY SOFTBALL

Record: 7 - 2

Coaches: Mr. Mandl & Ms. Dunham

Captain: Lucy Ober & Lucy Traina

MVP: Lucy Traina MIP: Romy Batzofin Coaches’ Awards: Sonya Kinsella & Bridget Walsh

Blue Dog Award: Tahira Kharoti & Adelyn Perreault

The 2023 Varsity Softball team had a very fulfilling season. While we were a young team with a few returners from last year, this was a group of athletes who did not get intimidated by our opponents. The team was led by Senior Captains, Lucy Ober and Lucy Traina, who kept the spirit up in each game and led with skill and infectious energy. Bridget Walsh used her pitching experience to be dominant on the mound with Sonny Kinsella shifting between catching and the pitching mound. Our record was 7-2 and we had several big wins, winning most games by 9 or more runs. A highlight was a one-run win over Renbrook, striking out the last batter with the bases loaded, avenging a one-run loss to start the season. Our overall defense was very good as the players developed over the season to confidently know where to go with the ball in different situations. We won several games because we executed well when the other team hit the ball. The players learned how to make the “simple” plays and executed under pressure - especially Addy Perreault and Lucy Traina, who turned 2 double plays during the season. Tahira Kharoti led the team in hits and was always dependable when we needed a player on base. Addy Perreault led the team in walks and runs scored. As the season progressed, these athletes learned the finer points of the game, like stealing and bunting, and how to use these to our advantage. Thank you to our Seniors, Lucy Ober, Abby McGuire, Tahira Kharoti, and Sasha Batzofin for being team leaders. Thank you to our excellent Manager, Aya Kabbani, and to all our coaches and players for making this a successful season of winning, learning, and fun.

BOYS VARSITY LACROSSE

Record: 9 - 1 - 1

Coaches: Messrs. Ketchum & Buono

Captains: Lucas Kocienda & Garrett Rossini

MVP: Jaiden Allen MIP: Gunnar Ough

Coaches’ Awards: Jun Won (Chris) Son Blue Dog Award: Oliver Young

This year's version of Blue Dog Lacrosse saw a large contingent of new and returning Seniors to Roy Field - providing a steady presence both offensively and defensively. Add in eighth graders making the step up from the B level who made solid contributions, and a couple of swing players who played B and Varsity this year, and you had a recipe for a successful season. Surely, 9-1-1 is a successful record, but this was not the measure of success we chose to focus on. Rather, we were more intent on playing the elusive complete game- from the opening whistle to the end of the game. We began the season with eight straight wins. In all of those games we had quarters and halves where our skill as players and competitors was on full display. We struggled to find that level of confidence in the next two games, and we learned that it was far more difficult being the hunted- we experienced a defeat and a tie. The final game of the season vs. IMS was the game we sought the entire season - 4 quarters of our best- both on the field and between the ears. Thank you and best of luck to our Seniors- Attackmen- Jaiden, Alex,

and Blake, Midfielders- Gunnar, Ollie, Sam, Carson, Graham, Max, LSM Charlie, Close DefenseCaptains Garrett and Lucas, Goalie- Eli. I hope you all continue playing this wonderful game. Take a look eighth graders- Some big shoes to fill next year! As it has been all season- Do Everything with Purpose.

GIRLS VARSITY LACROSSE

Record: 8 - 3

Coaches: Mrs. Kappler & Ms. DeGrazia’09

MIP: Isabella Demiraj Coaches’ Award: Vivian Eannacony Blue Dog Award: Victoria Jazrawi

2nd Place Rumsey Lacrosse Invitational

The 2023 Varsity Lacrosse season was a great success with an 8-3 record. We began the season with 13 returning players and we were fortunate enough to build a strong team that ranged from III Formers to Seniors. The team was composed of twenty-three talented, hardworking girls who exemplify the values of sportsmanship. While on the field during both practices and games, the girls played with a strong sense of cooperation, camaraderie and heart. This helped them win gracefully against their weaker opponents like Berkshire and Millbrook. They also fought hard against their strongest opponents IMS and Taft. Throughout the season, each player improved in their own individual ways ranging from the basics like quick sticks and ground balls, to the larger team goals of communication and special play creation. We also hosted the Second Annual Rumsey Hall Girls Lacrosse Invitational a wonderful Saturday morning filled with great competition and teamwork where we placed 2nd. Every girl played an integral role in our success this season as did their amazingly supportive families. We thank you all for being there with us throughout this fabulous season. We are heartbroken to graduate a fantastic group of Seniors: Captains Katie, Shawn, and Elena, as well as Kate, Victoria, Annabel, Vivian and Sofia. We wish them all the best of luck next spring on their new teams.

VARSITY A TENNIS

Record: 12 - 1

Coaches: Mrs. Saxe

Captains: David Block & Tomas Manzano

MVP: Alejandro Garcia Muriel MIP: Emma Golden

Coaches’ Award: Alexander Han Blue Dog Award: Tomas Manzano

The Varsity A Tennis Team had another successful season, finishing 12-1 with only one close loss in a tiebreaker against Hotchkiss JV. Returning players Dash, David, Charlie, Tomas, and Ripley gave a lot of depth to our ladder. Our number one seed, Alejandro, proved incredibly valuable to the team, winning every match and giving away less than five games. Alex Han was another talented player who joined the team this season along with Louis Thomas, Emma Golden, Olivia Sun, Alan Zhou (unfortunately injured most of the season), and our youngest player Will Neff. The team had impressive wins against many high school junior varsity teams, such as Millbrook (8-1), Frederick Gunn (8-1), Kent (5-4), Trinity-Pawling (7-0), Berkshire (9-0), and Hotchkiss (4-3), and beat our peer schools, Indian Mountain (8-1) and Washington Montessori (9-0). Congratulations, team, for an outstanding season!
