1. I’m a driven young mother of 1. Started my acting and presenting career with nothing but R100 to my name and I’ve never looked back since then. 2. Looking back at where I came from, what I’ve endured and what I’ve achieved this far motivates me to want to do even more. My mother and son and the life I’d like them to live motivate me and lastly I know I have kids looking up to me and that motivates me too. 3. I took drama as a subject in High school and then continued on to do stage and TV in 2014 until this present day. 4. I’m currently not signed to any agency so getting jobs and auditions is very hard. Having to make contacts, knowing people in the right places and getting a decent deal without being exploited is also a big factor.

5. Terry Pheto and Pearl Modiadie because I had a very similar upbringing to theirs and so inspiring to see how far they’ve come. They didn’t let their stories define them. 6. Thuso Mbedu, she’s amazing. 7. I host/MC events 8. On my Facebook (Retha Mogotsi - Matete), Instagram (rethamogotsi) and rethamogotsi@gmail.com 9. Ambitious Hard working Multi-talented 10. Favorite food would have to be pasta and favorite movie is My Sister’s Keeper

TAKE IT FROM THE TOP

A good suit should hug your shoulders, not slouch off them. Most guys think they’re a size larger than they are—say, a 42 regular instead of a 40. When buying a suit, go ahead and try sizing down. When you pull on the jacket, there should be a firmness to it. You should snap to attention and stand taller. If it doesn’t fit right in the shoulders, don’t buy it.

Check out Milo Ventimiglia here and you’ll see more than just a sharp-dressed man— you’ll see a completely contemporary man. What’s the secret? The trimness of the suit? Sure. The elegance of the details? Totally. But look a little closer and you’ll notice what’s not here:

LOSE THE FLAB Think about the width of the sleeves. This is an obsession of ours at GQ. For pretty much every photo shoot, we have a tailor slim down the sleeves, trimming them of excess fabric. It cuts a mean figure.

That’s our mantra here at GQ. It’s what we preach every issue. Doesn’t matter what kind of suit you’re investing in, whether it’s $200 or $2,000, flannel or seersucker, two-button or three. We’ve seen plenty of guys who’ve bought the right suit and let it hang off them like an NBA rookie on draft night. And we’ve seen men in cheap but well-tailored suits who look like a million bucks. The thing’s got to fit right, or else there’s no point in wearing it. Question is, what’s the right fit, and how do you get it?

SHOW SOME CUFF Your suit sleeves should end just above the hinges of your wrists, so a quarter to half inch of shirt cuff shows. It’s like the frame on a painting—the elegant finishing touch. TAPER, TAPER, TAPER Your jacket should contour to your body. Have a tailor nip it at the sides. This will accentuate your shoulders—whether you’ve got strong ones or not. BREAK IT DOWN We like flat-front pants, cut slim, with very little break at the ankle. This produces a long, clean look. Your pants should just clip the tops of your shoes, not bunch up over them.

TOP TIPS 1Make a plan – write a business plan that acts as your route map. The best business plans are simple and clear, addressing key areas like: Background on you, your team and its capabilities Your business idea and a description of your product and/or service

26

Market assessment and opportunities for your business Costs, pricing and forecasts for sales and profit Investment strategy, i.e. what you need investment for and how these funds will be used Head to tinyurl. com/businesslinkplan for a template.

2 Make Noise

get to know the media that cover your industry and/or local area and send them good stories with top quality images.

Make the most of social media to become known as an expert in your field and as free marketing. People fund.it is an example of firms using a ‘crowdsourcing’ platform for individuals to pledge funds and offer feedback and support to get a business project off the ground through sales and marketing.

3 Make sales

target friends and family as customers and

ROYAL ROUGE  / OCTOBER 2018 / Issuu.com/royalrougemagazine

BUSINESS & • GENIUS branch out from there. Price your product at a rate that’s competitive and covers the cost of your time. Make sales at events, through local shops or online via your own website or other powerful sales platforms.

4

Keep the business in balance – try to spend a third of your time across three main activities; business development, customer care and admin.

Enthusiasm Think about a time in your life when you were truly excited to do something, whether it was a visit to the zoo as a kid, a golf game at a beautiful resort course, or a romantic trip to the Caribbean. Think about the feelings you had leading up to the event. You were probably happy and filled with enthusiasm about what would happen next. This is the type of feeling that you want the people in your organization to express

and feel as often as possible. Have fun! Many factors lead to enthusiasm at work and one of the most important is in creating a fun environment. Without some sort of fun you diminish enthusiasm, without enthusiasm you diminish motivation, and without motivation you greatly diminish your chance at long term business success. Take a look at the following excerpt from the Levity Effect: Why it Pays to Lighten Up, by Adrian Gostick and Scott Christopher: “… An excited Kirt Womack of the Thiokol factory in Utah sprinted into his manager’s office on the first day of spring and asked if the folks on the

factory floor could do something fun — say, head outside and fly paper airplanes — if they met their quota two hours early. The manager wrinkled his brow and vetoed the idea. Kirt persisted, “Well, then, what if we exceed our quota by 50 percent?” Figuring he had nothing to lose, the manager finally gave in. Later that day, at 1:30, the manager checked on things and found that his employees had reached 110 percent of their quota. By 3 p.m., they’d surpassed 150 percent. The airplanes were launched, laughter rang out and people frolicked (funny word, frolicked).

TRAVELING &• ACCOMODATION

Zulu Kingdom

Welcome to KwaZulu-Natal! This is South Africa’s top domestic holiday destination and whether it is adventure or relaxation you seek, KwaZulu-Natal makes for unforgettable experiences. South Africa has the world’s richest floral kingdom and a vast variety of endemic and migratory birds. It is also home to onesixth of the world’s marine species and has more species of wild animals than North and South America or Europe and Asia together. Its diversity, sunny skies and breathtaking scenery make it a popular holiday destination. The 2010 World Cup affords South Africa a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase the best the country has to offer.

In 2009, the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism became the Department of Tourism, emphasising the importance of this sector. Tourism has been identified as one of the key economic sectors with excellent potential for growth. About 9,6 million foreign tourists visited

38

South Africa in 2008, a 5,5% increase over the 9,1 million foreigners who visited the country in 2007. The contribution of tourism to South Africa’s gross domestic product is estimated to have increased from R162,9 billion in 2007 to R194,5 billion in 2008. The estimated number of

jobs created directly and indirectly in the economy through tourism increased by 10% from 946 300 in 2007 to 1 041 700 in 2008. Foreign visitors to South Africa increased by 5,1% to 8,6 million in the 11 months to November 2008.
