Zandile Vinolia Ngozo is a 28-year-old self-taught Professional makeup artist who is born and bred in the East rand of Johannesburg (Tsakane, Brakpan). She is a very ambitious, organized, tenacious, resilient and very focused lady. She worked as an Admin Manager for a company called Dhladhla Foundation which is based in Midrand for 3 years; she then worked as a Social Media manager for a company called Pointers Southern Africa for a year, then focused on building her brand from mid-2018-present. She now works as a Beauty and Fashion Editor for a South African online magazine called Royal Rouge, professional makeup artist for Face to Face with Zan and a Professional makeup artist for The Sound of Silence. She wants to become a Beauty Mogul, International Makeup artist and hopes to contribute in giving back to her community and changing generational poverty in the African continent.

I haven't been the industry for long, I've always been used to being behind the camera!

Creative Chaos was started when I started freelancing. It was a difficult decision to choose a name that I would possibly stick with, for years to come. I wanted a name that both shows the creative, as well as the chaotic part of Makeup artistry. Especially, to show the fact that I specialize in both Special Effects Makeup, as well as Bodypainting.

When I was asked for the first time, to try and stand in front of the camera, I was a bit shy and unsure. I ended up going to a KIEF Modils workshop, that explained the do's and don't's.

WHAT DO YOU SEE AS YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT? As someone who was diagnosed with Dyscalculia, a learning disability, I never thought I'd get really far in life. After my diagnosis, I was put on a different program, where maths as a subject was replaced. I ended up doing really well after that, and it gave me a chance to go study and do what I do today. So my greatest achievement would be overcoming my biggest shortcoming.

Please tell the readers about your modeling career so far? I haven't been the industry for long, I've always been used to being behind the camera! I was inspired by all the gorgeous women in my life and I wanted to try it out! There, I've met more people and started networking a bit. It was a lot of fun and I ended up joining Photographer: Annari du Plessis KIEF Modils that following year. At what age should you start getting Botox? Most patients typically start using Botox at age 30, some even in their mid-20s. It’s possible to benefit from preventative Botox treatments starting as early as 25, but before that, the odds are low that you could have built up enough lines to worry about Can I wear makeup after Botox?

Starving yourself ? Don’t do it!

Starving yourself may seem like the best idea after a weekend of excess. But doing this is incredibly unhealthy and puts your body under a large amount of pressure. In the long run, it will slow down your metabolism and make it even harder to stay in control of your weight. When losing weight, you have to be sure it’s fat you’re losing, and not muscle. Muscle tissue is what makes a difference when burning kilojoules. Starving yourself means you lose muscle tissue and that slows down your metabolism. Be gentle on your body. Sticking to healthy smoothies for 24 hours can be a good idea. But remember: before following this 24-hour diet, it’s important to consider

Avoid potatoes and starchy veggies.  ½ avocado Three servings of fruit.  2 large tomatoes  1 red pepper, deseeded Two servings of whole grains: 1 thin slice wholemeal bread, 2  Handful of fresh basil cracker breads, 4tbsp porridge oats, 2tbsp wholegrain pasta or  Handful of ice cubes brown rice, or 2 oatcakes. Change bad habits by starting with these tips: Make micro changes At this time of year, we want to break bad habits, wipe the slate clean and start afresh. We aim high by signing up for Dry January, a new gym membership and the latest diet. But it’s a mistake. “Doing too much, too soon, wears out your willpower muscle and sets you up for failure,” says Dr Heather McKee. “Habits are a

complex mesh of behaviours; you can’t resolve them all at once. You must work on untangling them one by one until the habit knot is sorted.” Start with the bad habits that are easiest to change first, as research shows these smaller, simpler actions become habitual more quickly. “Each time you accomplish a micro-change you get a sense of satisfaction, and this spurs you on to stick with your goals,” adds Heather.

Learn from the lapses Research shows that people who manage to stick to long-term health goals have a ‘learning’ view of failure. When they fall off the wagon, for example, or overeat, they don’t berate themselves but instead look at the circumstances and learn from them. They pick themselves up and start again. “Most of us think we can simply go from A to B without deviating from the path,” says Heather. “But life doesn’t work that way. Improving our bad habits is more a process of trial and error and learning what works for you.” Do it Next time you give in to temptation, don’t waste energy beating yourself up. Instead, examine why you gave in. How were you feeling? Tired? Bored? Emotional? Hungry? Identify triggers If you’re drinking too much coffee, a typical ‘ingredientled’ approach would be to switch to decaf or exert willpower to resist drinking coffee. “However, this surfacelevel change will become too difficult to maintain,” states Heather. “Eventually, you’ll be back to drinking the same amount of coffee, feeling like you’ve failed again.” Do it Look at what’s triggering your coffee habit – in what circumstances are you drinking it, what time of day and where? Ask what it means to your routine. If you’re using it to stay awake, maybe you need to work on your sleep. It’s not a sprint “Research tells us it can take

Getting into debt is easy, however, getting out of debt is the hard part of it all and in the end it will be well worth it Living debt-free is the greatest financial gift you can give yourself, but you need a plan and the motivation to stick to it. This 10-step plan helps you take control of your debt, starting right now and the first steps that you can do this month to get you going on the path to debt recovery, is to plan along these lines and then stick to that plan each month, until you are living debt free. Tackle the first six steps, then move onto the final four steps :-

1. Get your head right

Like any other hard thing in life, the first step is committing to the process for the right reasons and here are two good reasons and you also need to tell yourself, you won’t go back there :● When you owe money, you’re not just paying back capital. You’re being charged interest every month you are in debt – and with the hike in interest rates, interest is now costing you more than it did before. ● When you are in debt, you are robbing yourself of the money you could be using each month or saving for your future.

2.

Total up all your debts

Make a note of every debt you have, including your credit card, bank loans, retail accounts, car finance and home loan – even the R200 you owe your cousin! You will firstly need the right information iro the debt you owe, so if need be call the institution that you owe money to that will enable you to plan correctly (write down the answers) -then ask yourself these three questions./ How much is outstanding? ● What is the interest rate that I am paying? ● How long until the debt is paid back at this rate? ● Can I pay in more than the minimum monthly repayment and are there any penalties for doing so? 3. Decide on your method you will use for repaying the debt There are two tried-and-tested methods that deliver the best results for paying back your debts. They are: 4. Do a budget Write down all your monthly expenses, including rent, medical aid, insurance, school fees, food, transport, entertainment, clothes and so on. Then look for every opportunity you have to tighten your belt. Could you buy yourself lunch at the office less often? Could you share a ride into work with someone and halve your petrol costs? How much could you cut back on entertainment? Could you buy cheaper food at the supermarket? If you find that you are already stretched to the limit of your budget, consider ways to earn extra income – like renting out a room in your home, or selling baked goods to colleagues at work. Take or make any opportunity you can to save money or earn a little extra.

. Keep track of it all

At month-end, put your plan into action. Pay back the minimum instalment on all Put all of this information into your accounts. Don’t allow yourself that temptation, remember all your hard work paying these debts back. And as you finish paying each debt, close the account. Be very disciplined about this. If you are still thinking “but…” then you are not fully

committed to the process and you will end up right back where you started. 8. Consider overpaying on your asset finance as well Your home loan and car finance would probably come out last on the additional repayment list, whether you were using the snowball method or the avalanche method. These debts are slightly different to the others, because they are funding assets and generally have low

This means that if you are saving while still paying back credit, you are losing money. The most financially sound approach to take is to use all your extra money to get out of debt first and only then start saving. However, in practice, this doesn’t always make sense. For one thing, people tend to need the security blanket of having savings, even if they are paying back debt. For another, you might find that you need to spend money while you are paying back debt, and if you don’t have savings, you’ll have to go into even more debt and start the cycle over again. So go ahead and save if you have the budget to do so, but don’t forget that getting rid of debt is your priority.

If you need something, it's better to save for it than to go into credit. Try to adopt a policy of going without, rather than spending money you don't have. Congratulations on committing to getting out of debt and to living that way in future, being debt free. You’re in this for the long haul, but it will be worth it in the end. NOTE: If you have taken on more debt than you can afford to pay back using these methods, then you may have to consider debt counselling, as those people have way more experience & expertise in helping people recover from debt. The impact of the nationwide lockdown on mental health

(Photo: Unsplash / Alexander Krivitskiy) Less Mental health experts warn that the global Covid-19 pandemic and the national lockdown can have a negative impact on people’s mental health and well-being. The measures put in place by President Cyril Ramaphosa, effective 26 March 2020, restrict people from leaving their homes (unless for essentials such as groceries, medical help, and petrol) and from gathering with others. The lockdown may sound like a short period of time, but isolation can lead to increased levels of anxiety and depression, and feelings of fear, agitation, anger, loss, and loneliness, says clinical psychologist Dessy Tzoneva. Dr Colinda Linde, a clinical psychologist in Johannesburg, said that the terminology alone strikes fear among individuals. “There’s a good reason the term lockdown makes us feel so powerless and trapped; it’s a term commonly used in prisons, where the inhabitants are in that position,” says Linde. Linde explained that “no one wants to feel they have no choice, and all of these factors contribute to a general level of discomfort and unhappiness in a situation like this”. “Economically most people have taken a serious knock; many cannot work online and are sitting waiting for the possibility to work (and earn) as soon as this period ends. Sitting with the worry about how you are going to survive, even if it’s just you or one family versus being an employer of many, is also taking a toll and raising levels of anxiety and depression.” Casey Chambers, the operations director for the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag) says the group has seen an increase in the number of calls since the start of the lockdown. “We are getting more calls from people who are feeling more anxious, more down, and even saddened as they are seeing the [number] of cases and deaths increasing every day,” says Chambers. Sadag is also concerned about people who live alone. “We have also been receiving calls from people who are doing lockdown by themselves and who do not have family or friends,” says Chambers. Moreover, Sadag has seen an increase in calls from people who live in an abusive household who are stressed and worried about their safety. Chambers says that the group is trying to help such people with safety plans. Sadag predicts that these cases will increase over time as we get deeper into lockdown and see an increase in the number of people infected. “We are anticipating an increase in the number of calls and we are trying to build capacity as we deal with the influx,” adds Chambers. A primary concern for Sadag is access to mental health services. These services are now being reduced because of the lockdown and the Covid-19 guidelines that hospitals are required to follow. Dr Gloria Marsay, a Sandton educational psychologist, says that it is not just those who struggle with mental health disorders who will feel the impact of Covid-19 and the isolation. Those who live alone will find it especially difficult to cope during this time and differences in sociability play a role in how people will cope with the current situation.

Linde points out that “introverts will find it easier than extroverts, and people with a strong spiritual life seem to be able to rely on this as a daily and comforting practice”. Although living alone is not easy, people need to make a conscious effort to reach out and use their social networks and support systems. Unfortunately, however, the poor and the elderly are more at risk as there is a lack of public resources in South Africa. Mental Health Professionals are hoping that this pandemic will change that.

Marsay explains that “provision for dealing with mental health in South Africa has been seriously under-resourced in the past”. “Hopefully this pandemic will alert policymakers to the need for improved skills and strategies to be taught in schools and to be disseminated during this lockdown period in as many practical ways as possible. Social and Emotional Skills are paramount for sustained mental health.”

“While online contact can’t really replace the human touch, it is still a powerful means of remembering you are not alone,” says Linde. “It is important to create and maintain a routine,” says Marsay. The structure of routine gives a sense of safety and support. Marsay suggests trying the following to manage your stress levels and to avoid being stuck in a rut: Get up and get dressed at a designated time; Get some sunshine (this can be done by standing at a window or going into your garden); Eat enough and as healthily as possible; Get enough sleep and stick to a regular bedtime; and Get enough exercise (you download one of the many apps available to exercise in your own home). Humans, by nature, are resilient. “We have a basic instinct to survive. It is our duty as people living within communities to help each other in whatever way we can,” says Marsay.

Lockdown does not have to mean solitary confinement. Reach out to friends and family, and above all, stay safe. Psychiatrists and psychologists are offering telephonic or virtual consultations. Your healthcare provider will be able to recommend someone for you to talk to.

Pitta Pizzas

With Brie And Avocado

Serves: 3-4 Prep Time: 10 Minutes Cooking Time: 6 Minutes INGREDIENTS

1 tube sundried tomato paste 4 wholemeal pitta breads 175g ripe brie, cut into long, thin slices Large handful seedless green grapes, halved 1 avocado, peeled and roughly diced Handful parsley leaves, roughly chopped

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat the oven to 220 C, gas 7, and at the same time put a baking sheet inside to warm. 2. Spread the sundried tomato paste evenly over the 4 pittas and top with 3 to 4 slices of brie. Place on the hot baking sheet and bake on the top shelf of the oven for approximately 5 to 6 minutes, until the brie is melted and bubbling. 3. Remove from the oven and top with the grapes, avocado and parsley. Cut into fingers and serve immediately.
