Alice Springs and Central Australia RLSSANT actively sought to reduce drowning through engaging the community in education, programs, sport and training throughout 2020/21. ● Training: 54 courses were held with a total of 211 participants within Central Australia and included Bronze Medallion and updates, Pool Lifeguard and updates, First Aid, CPR, and Swimming Teacher Rescue Awards. The KPI of 200 participants was achieved, with 211 participants. ● WSU: There were 239 enrolments for the Water Safety Awareness Program in the region which was 11.92% of enrolments in the program. Our Emergency Care sessions were conducted at the Birth and Beyond Parent Centre in Alice Springs. ● Education: 10 Water Safety Education talks were conducted within the region reaching 836 students. Sessions were delivered at childcare centres, preschools and primary schools. ● IAS: Swim, Survive and Strive programmes were delivered in 5 communities Mt Leibig, Santa Teresa, Mutitjulu, Areyonga and Yuendumu. At each location, the week’s lessons culminated in a Pool Lifesaving carnival being held. ● Sport: There are 22 active Pool Lifesaving members in Central Australia, with 12 new members and 10 returning. This is an increase on last year. Pool Lifesaving members in Central Australia have benefitted from the stability of securing casual coaching staff. ● Community Events: Royal Life Saving NT was involved in 18 community events within Central Australia reaching 1,159 people. The engagement numbers were decreased significantly due to the cancellation of major events in Central Australia in 2020. Innovative events have helped RLSSANT maintain a presence in the Red Centre Alice Springs WSAP Enrolments 2015/2016
