2020/21 Highlights

● 45,337 Provided a community benefit and services to 45,337 people across the Northern Territory; this equates to a reach of 20% of our population. ● 14,227 children participated in the Swim and Survive program with 1109 Students achieving the National Water

Safety Competency Benchmark of a level 4 or above. ● 342 children participated in our “Little Royals Swim School” Program run in Batchelor, Katherine and Darwin with 154 of these registered in Katherine ● 2,508 people participated within the Indigenous Advancement Strategy - Remote Swim, Survive & Strive. The project ran within 20 remote communities with 27 remote schools accessing the program. This includes 1,268 students in remote locations with 86 achieving the national swimming and water safety benchmark of a level 4 or above. 4 students achieved a Level 6, the highest award achieved this year. 341 people were trained and now qualified with a range of qualifications. This year, 35 indigenous people gained employment through the training and mentoring of the Swim, Survive & Strive Project. Along with 61 indigenous people who are currently employed within their community and received ongoing professional development. Ranger training was completed by 43 indigenous sea rangers. ● 475 Training courses were conducted across the NT for 3,246 participants, with 13,071 certificates issued including 5,677 statements of attainments. ● AUSTSWIM: 10 courses and 4 professional development sessions with 122 participants. We continue to administer the AUSTSWIM State Advisory Committee ● The Northern Territory Water Safety Advisory Council was administered on behalf of the Northern Territory

Government with 4 meetings conducted, reports completed to the Northern Territory’s Water Safety Strategy for 2017-2021. ● 10 Schools participated in Pipes and Drains education sessions which reached 1,975 students. In addition to this, 5 community events were attended directly targeting the Pipes & Drains message, reaching an estimated 5,000 people ● A total of 32 schools were visited by the Water Safety Unit to deliver water safety talks to 3,446 students across the NT. ● Water Safety Week ran from September 20-26 and incorporated 14 events to reach over 10,000 people, including

Splashfest. ● 28,113 children have enrolled in the Water Safety Awareness Program since 2003, with 75% of children completing all five sessions. ● There was a total of 2004 enrolments for 2020/21 in the Water Safety Awareness Program with 15 Providers –

Swim Schools ● Conducted 94 community events, providing a direct community benefit to over 25,860 people ● Maintained 29 Keep Watch Ambassadors and worked with all levels of Government to highlight the importance of water safety and preventing drowning ● 3653 Members, with 401 Voting Members ● Over 3000 children participated in 22 grassroots pool lifesaving carnivals ● Beriversafe and Respect the River campaign conducted 16 community events across the Northern Territory ● Maintained 11 Permanent staff, including 1 full-time position based in Alice Springs; 29 registered Trainers and 30 casual Swim Teachers. ● Sadly 5 people drowned in 2020/21 year in the Northern Territory
