FOD:R Exhibition, AFLK Gallery

Aspiration: I tried to focus on the relationship of landscape and building, for example in M3, my design is to make the landscape become more flexible and then become functional, for example, I the area under the roof sunken, so they can be a place for the band performance; I make areas around the pavilion raised, so they can be bench chairs. I think it is a more natural and simple way of making an area functional. What to improve: Think more over my initial idea of design, which could be confusing later if i changed idea during the process.

Aires Mateus - Radix

The pavilion Aires Mateus Radix is a sculpture installed nearby the docks of the Arsenale which represents the spirit of cultural recombination. Besides of acting as a sculpture, the radix is also a space for people to stand in the shadow to take a rest and children would like to move across. The Radix stands in three corners, with one point pendent above the water, people can get inside and look at the reflection, according to David Basulto (2012) the sculture is to illustrate ‘researching and proposing are acts of cultural recombination, which allow dialogue and reflection to meet‘, instead of building the sculpture into a representative shape, the radix more likely to involve people inside the sculpture and let themselves to feel the spirit. Circulation refers to the pathway people used to move through or around the building, Threshold refers to a zone of passage or pause between two spaces. Inside the Radix itself, the space is divided by three arch holes in th middle; on the other hand, the Radix was built by the water, water is also included in the design process, that the water reflection creates another mirrored space, the threshold between the reality and the reflection is the water level itself. People can walk through the arch holes in the middle, including a lower one which is passable only for small children.

The 3d panels are wider at bottom and narrower at top, creates a sense of ‘looking from inside to outside’, and interesting light directions.

Corresponding to 3d panels, create sense of ‘looking into public from private’.

It is quite important to adjust the layers, we need to consider where to cut and where to fold.

100 word describing your project. Below are some questions as prompt. 1) What is your concept? 2) How does it satisfy the inhabitation brief for both the lunchtime seminar and an evening quartet performance? 3) How is the ground articulated to facilitate circulation? 4) Describe the material and how its effect the inhabitation of the space?

Design Iteration

Unnecessary

I originally decide to develope a roll shape pavillion, but i found it is unnecessary to develpe 2 layers of roof, and there is no place for performance.
