Rosewood presents over 400 classes annually for youth and adults, as well as gallery exhibitions, theatre performances, artist studios and special events. A division of the City of Kettering’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts, Rosewood is supported and programmed by the City of Kettering, with additional support provided by the Ohio Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

VIRTUAL CLASSES Drawing Session with Andrew Dailey Ages: 16 +

Join Rosewood’s Cultural Arts Program Supervisor and artist, Andrew Dailey, for a look into his specific drawing process and materials in a live virtual Zoom session. Dailey demonstrates how to subtly combine cross-hatching and reductive mark-making to create a nuanced and layered graphite pencil drawing in a live Zoom session. T-Shirt Skirt Virtual Class Ages: 16 +

Learn how to make a T-Skirt out of your favorite T-shirts in a live virtual Zoom session. Students will cut up the t-shirts to design and sew a skirt. Supplies needed: 6 to 10 T-shirts for cutting, 1 yd of 1.5 inch elastic, thread, a small sewing kit and a fully functional sewing machine. Join Rosewood’s Ceramics Studio Coordinator and artist, Brandon Lowery, as he demonstrates how to make slab-built forms and vessels from clay using simple tools and common household items in a live virtual Zoom session. Sound techniques for slab rolling and joining will be covered to help get you making art at your studio away from the studio. Dance Apparel

Dance classes are conducted in the Rosewood Arts Centre dance studio. Street shoes are not allowed on the dance studio floor. Slippers or socks with treads are recommended, as well as comfortable clothing that will allow you to move easily. Tap shoes or hard-soled shoes are required for tap. ROSEWOOD Let your imagination run wild at Camp Rosewood as you dance, sculpt, paint or perform your way through summer. Campers will display their creativity as they work with a variety of media and create masterpieces all summer long. There will be no extended care available for these camps. CAMP ROSEWOOD DAILY CAMP SCHEDULE Camp Rosewood features weeklong camps including Dance, Anime and Manga, Wheel Pottery, Theatre and many more! Camp Rosewood and Camp Habitat also feature Art in the Wild, a camp focused on the intersection between art and environmental education. Art camps include art project time led by an art instructor. Full-day weeklong camps visit the Adventure Reef Water Park in the afternoon, weather permitting. Afternoons after pool time campers enjoy a variety of artplay activities and games with our camp staff. Campers should wear clothes that can get messy in the classroom. Campers must also bring their own water bottle, healthy snack, insulated sack lunch, beverage, sunscreen and swim gear every day. Art materials are included in the camp fee.

Let your imagination run wild at Camp Rosewood as you dance, sculpt, paint or perform your way through summer. Campers will display their creativity as they work with a variety of media and create masterpieces all summer long. There will be no extended care available for these camps.

Forms

In order to participate in camp, each camper must have submitted their health history form. After enrollment, participants receive an email inviting them to complete their health history form using our secure, online partner ePACT. Partial Payment Option If you register prior to April 30 and your camp fees are more than $100, you may enroll using our partial payment option. This option allows you to pay 50% of each weekly camp fee when you enroll and the remaining 50% of the weekly camp fee will be billed to your credit/debit card on June 1. In the event payment is declined, full payment must be made by June 4 or the spot will be released.

ADULT / TEEN CERAMICS Reduction Firing

Get unique and beautiful glaze results using our reduction kiln and cone 10 specific glazes. Patrons may use up to 3 cubic feet of space per firing included in the cost of class or open studio use. Cost of additional space needed in a single firing is $20 per cubic ft. Firings are scheduled when enough work is generated to fill the kiln (generally once a month). Anyone interested in firing work in the reduction kiln may sign up for an individual orientation in the Rosewood office.

Luster Glazing Workshop Ages: 16 +

Students learn historical and contemporary applications for luster glazes as well as proper techniques for safe effective use. Students apply lusters on up to four smaller pieces (or two large pieces) of pre-glazed student work. Clay Hand-Building Ages: 16+

This is a beginning class for students with little to no hand-building experience. Instruction is given for making tiles, vessels and sculptural forms using clay slabs and coils. Surface enrichment as well as glaze application is also covered. Students work with their own ideas at their own pace. This class focuses on the basics of creating forms on the potter’s wheel. Students explore making traditional tableware including bowls, cups and mugs with self-directed projects for more experienced students. Landscape Painting in Plein Air Ages: 16 +

Join artist, Kelley Booze, for painting in plein air in the parks and wooded areas of Kettering. Plein air is “open air”, meaning that students will be painting outside with the elements and experience of nature all around. Students will paint from observation, making small paintings using a suggested palette. Students will address issues of light, color and landscape form. Adult Machine Basics Ages: 16 +

Learn to use your sewing machine or borrow one of Rosewood’s in a fun setting. VISITOR POLICY: All participants and observers must pay open

studio fees to stay longer than 30 minutes. Children under 5 years old are not permitted in open studio. Those under 16 must be supervised by an adult 21 years of age or older (no more than two children per adult). All studio patrons, including currently enrolled students, must sign in and pay fees at the Rosewood office. All open studio work-in-progress may not be left more than 30 minutes unattended.

STUDENT POLICY: Adult students currently enrolled in studio classes will receive a student pass card for four sessions of studio time. Students staying over 30 minutes after the end of class must sign in and use this pass card.

Unclaimed pieces left after 30 days will be discarded or considered a donation to Rosewood.

Rosewood Arts Centre reserves the right to cancel any class and to substitute faculty when necessary. Classes will be canceled three working days prior to the starting date when there is insufficient enrollment.

Artist Studios

Artist studios are available at Rosewood Arts Centre for artists with an active practice and a commitment to sharing their work with the Kettering community. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed as studio spaces become available. Studio spaces start at $85/month for Kettering residents. For more information about artist studios, please contact Rosewood at 937-296-0294.

POTTERY STUDIO: Clay fee of $20 includes 25 pounds of clay

and related firing and glazes. Only clay purchased at Rosewood may be used in our studios and firings. Clay purchased at Rosewood may not be removed from the facility for work at home. You must supply your own tools. The studio is designed as a community facility and, as such, is not equipped to accommodate production pottery quantities. All open studio and private studio users are limited to three (3) cubic feet per week of kiln use. Attendance at a free pottery studio orientation is required of all first-time participants.

DARKROOM: Participants must be at least 16 years old, demonstrate previous experience in black and white darkroom processes and attend a Rosewood orientation session. Check at the Rosewood office for more information on eligibility or for the orientation schedule and to make an appointment.

GLASS STUDIO: The glass studio is available to students who wish

to finish class work, have attended a class previously or have prior experience in cold or warm glass. Participants must be at least 16 years old and attend a Rosewood orientation session. Fees for kiln or torch usage are $5 respectively for up to 3 hours.

RESIDENT STATUS

To receive resident rates when attending drop-in and/or daily admission activities or registering for a program, Kettering residents or a person working in Kettering must produce identification. The following sources of I.D. are accepted as proof of residency.

Living in Kettering: • A valid Ohio driver’s license with Kettering address.

• Current utility bill with Kettering address, accompanied by a valid photo I.D.

Working in Kettering:

• Pay stub that includes City of Kettering income tax withholding.

Youth (defined as persons 17 or younger):

• School I.D.s are accepted for youth 17 and under. The Resident Card has been designed to identify resident/non-resident users. The Resident Card will provide quick identification at Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts facilities or programs and identify them to be entitled to the Kettering resident fee. The free Resident Card can be obtained at any information desk.

PAYMENT METHODS

The City will accept cash, personal checks, credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and Discover) and money orders for the payment of fees. The City can only accept debit cards that can be processed as credit cards (non-pin). The City will charge a $25 service fee for all checks not honored for any reason by the bank. Checks should be made payable to: City of Kettering.

CONFIRMATION

For Mail-in and Drop-off Registrations Once your registration is processed, a confirmation will be emailed to you including your class enrollment status. If we were unable to place you in a class, your payment will be returned to you.

LATE REGISTRATION

Late registrations will be accepted prior to the second class meeting. After the second class meeting, no registrations will be accepted. Individuals registering late will be required to pay the total class fee.

REFUND POLICY

Our commitment is to make your experience successful. If you would like a refund, please contact us to discuss your experience. Refund requests must be made within two weeks of a registered program’s end date. For a full refund, requests must be made at least three days prior to the start of the program; otherwise a prorated refund of up to 75% will be offered. Special consideration may be given for life-altering situations and one-day experiences. If payment method was cash, check or household credit, a refund will be via City check. There will be no cash refunds. If payment method was credit or debit card, a refund will be issued on the card used for payment. This policy does not apply to facility rentals or pass purchases.

Participants must recognize that all classes/activities of a physical nature involve some risk and by registering for a class/activity, there is an assumption of risk by the participant. The City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is dedicated to providing safe facilities and equipment for all participants, as well as qualified staff. Every effort is made to ensure the safety of the participants and to provide them with first-class recreational activities, facilities and parks. In the event of a serious accident or illness, it is the policy of the City of Kettering to: • Contact the Kettering Fire Department Paramedics to perform first aid and, when necessary, recommend transport of the victim to a hospital; and • Reach the parent/guardian as soon as the situation allows.
