Storywalk at Central Park

The Robert Trail Library and Rose mount Parks and Recreation are teaming up to offer a Storywalk in Central Park during Spring Break on Thursday, March 30-Sunday, April 2. Take a self-guided walk in the park while reading pages from the children’s book The Hike by Alison Farrell. See page 4.

Rosemount Home & Business Expo

Businesses and organizations have the opportunity to exhibit prod ucts and services to families in our growing community. Join us on Saturday, March 18 from 9am-3pm at the Rosemount Community Center.

Rosemount Lions Club Spring Egg Hunt

A bunny will be hopping into Rosemount on Saturday, April 1 at 9:30am for last names starting with A-L and 11am for last names starting with M-Z. Lots of eggs and candy will be available for children to hunt for at this traditional Egg Hunt for kids ages 10 and under. This special event is located at the Ames Soccer Complex at Dakota County Technical College. See page 5.

Rosemount Spring Clean-Up

The City of Rosemount will be hosting its annual Spring Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 20 from 8am to 12pm at the Dakota County Technical College. See page 18.

Memorial Day Event

Come and join local elected officials and members of Rosemount Legion and Rosemount VFW in honoring the fallen soldiers of Rosemount in a special Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 29, 2023 at 11am at Central Park. “AN ENCHANTED EVENING IN THE FAIRY FOREST” PARENT/CHILD DANCE

The Mystical Enchanted Forest will magically appear for a delightful evening together for you and your little fairy! Join us for a magical evening of making memories at our annual parent/child dance. This enchanted fairy forest event will offer all the magical fantasies of fairies and will include an evening filled with dancing, music, fun activities, crafts, snacks and special visitors!

The Robert Trail Library and Rosemount Parks and Recreation are once again team ing up to offer a Storywalk though Central Park during Spring Break. Take a self-guid ed walk in the park on Thursday, March 30-Sunday, April 2 while reading pages from the children’s book The Hike by Alison Farrell. A Storywalk is an innovative and de lightful way for children and adults to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from the children’s book will be installed along the path around the pond at Central Park. As you stroll down the trail, you’re directed to the next page in the story. This Storywalk is about ¾ of a mile and stroller friendly.

With lyrical language that captures the majesty of the natural world coupled with fun narrative fea tured throughout, this spirited picture book tells the victorious story of three girls’ friendship—and their tribulations and triumphs in the great outdoors. Here is the best and worst of any hike: from picnics to puffing and panting, deer-sighting to detours. Featuring a glossary, a sketchbook by one of the char acters, abundant labels throughout, and scientific backmatter, this book is a must-have for budding scientists, best friends, and all adventurers. And it proves, as if proof were needed, what epic things can happen right in your own backyard.

A bunny will be hopping into Rosemount with lots of eggs and candy for children to hunt for at this traditional Egg Hunt for kids ages 10 and under.

Children will be divided into age groups (1-3, 4-6 and 7-10) for hunting. Each age group will have lots of eggs and candy to hunt for and they will also have a chance to find the “golden” egg, which they can turn in for a special prize. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Bring a basket or bag to hold your treats. Please arrive early; the event begins at 10am sharp.

A bunny will be visiting and roaming the entrance area. No pho tos on the bunny’s lap, but kids will be able to stand near the bunny so bring your cameras!

Inclement weather: In case of inclement weather, the Egg Hunt will be held the following Saturday, April 8. Connecting People to Nature by “TEACHING ANYTHING OUTDOORS”. That is the mission of EcoElsa LLC. Natural spaces provide many opportunities for people whether it is as a place to stay physically active, to rest and relax, to be curious and explore, and so much more! This is why EcoElsa curriculum and programs are developed to show how nature can be a space for teaching different subjects and topics; and for different learning styles.

Our pre-school classes focus on helping preschoolers connect to nature while also preparing for school. All classes have activities for multiple learning styles as well as the opportunity to practice different developmental skills like fine and gross motor, social, emotional, communication, and more!

WINTER ABCS HIKE

Come on a hike with an EcoElsa educator to learn the Alphabet while learning about winter. Kids will get to do hiking games and activities that help them learn their ABCs, motor skills, and more!

During this fun family excursion, you will learn about Minnesota’s winter habitats as well as the history of snowshoeing! Snowshoes will be provided, and participants will be instructed on how to use them so you can enjoy snowshoeing throughout the winter.

WINTER TRACKING GAMES

Kids will learn how to identify common animal footprints, as well as learn the basic skills to find their “opponent,” track them, and sneak up on them while playing games and doing activities. These skills are useful for hunters, photographers, and nature enthusiasts as well as for the characters from our favorite survival movies and books. Take on the challenges and see if you ultimately triumph on your way to becoming a master tracker! Expect to be outdoors for the whole 3-hour program.

WINTER SURVIVAL YOUTH CLASS

Your kid will learn skills through activities and games that will help them learn what to do in a survival situation. Join an EcoElsa educator to explore the winter landscape of Rosemount’s Parks and learn how to snowshoe. Make sure to dress for the weather as the whole program will be spent outdoors! Snowshoes will be provided, and participants will be instructed on how to use them. You can learn a great activity you can enjoy doing throughout the winter. For adults or a mature 15–17-year-old signed up with an adult.

WINTER SURVIVAL FAMILY CLASS

Participants will leave knowing the rules of three, 2 types of shelter engineering, fire science and safety, and how to collect and treat water. Make sure to dress for the weather as most of the class will be spent outdoors!

PRESCHOOL SNOW DAY

Learn about snow and winter through a variety of engaging activities and games for early learners. These are also activities that adults will be able to continue to do at home with the kids so they can get outdoors all winter long! We will be building with snow, playing games with snow, making snow art, and doing snow science. So, make sure you and your littles are dressed for the weather as most of the time will be spent outdoors.

WORMS & MUD!

In this class your kids will learn all about some of the earliest signs that spring is on the way! Class in cludes a variety of fun activities that engages littles to be active and creative while exploring the world of mud and worms. Make sure kids come dressed for the weather and getting dirty and a change of clothes for after class is also recommended!

Join a Naturalist from EcoElsa to learn about the aquatic ecosystems through the animals who call them home. Kids will also learn how to test the health of that ecosystem by collecting a survey of the animals found. As well as other activities to help them explore how we impact the quality of our water and actions to take to help it. Make sure your kids and you come dressed for the weather and ready to potentially get a little wet or dirty!

This FREE program provides children ages five and under an opportunity for recreational playtime in the gymnasium. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in order to participate in this

drop-in program. The Parks and Recreation Department provides balls and other fun play equipment. Supervision of children during parent/tot open gym is the responsibility of the parent or guardian.

The Rosemount Learn to Skate program offers a basic skills program. This program offers a skill progression designed to enhance the capabilities of all skaters. Please look carefully at the class de scriptions. It is not uncom mon for a student to repeat a level before mastering all the skills at that level. All classes are held on Monday evenings at the Rosemount Ice Arena, 13885 South Robert Trail. Questions should be directed to Rose mount Parks & Recreation at 651-322-6000.

The above times are suggested class times. These times may change depending on the number of registrations and age of students registering for each level. LEARN TO SKATE

SPECIAL NOTES

P.A.L.S. - PARENT AND LITTLE

SKATER:

This class is designed for parents and new skaters to learn basic skills together. Some of the skills included are forward marching, twofoot glides, dips, and starting backward wiggles.

3’S/4’S CLASS:

This class is designed for 3 and 4 year olds who have no to little ex perience with ice skating. They will learn basic skills such as forward marching, two-foot glides, dips, and starting backward wiggles.

• 3’s/4’s Beginner class: This class is for 3 and 4 year olds who have very little to no ice skating experience.

• Skaters and/or parents must have ice skates to participate. No roller blades or other type of skate.

• Protective headgear is required in all classes. Bike helmets or light weight hockey helmets are acceptable.

• Only skaters enrolled in the Learn to Skate pro gram may be on the ice.

• Name Tags: All skaters should pick up their name tags as they enter the arena. Class time, class level and class color are on the tag. Skaters should skate to the correspond ing color on the glass at their lesson time.

• Class Attire: Skaters should wear warm, com fortable clothing. Dress in layers so jackets and sweaters can be removed as the skaters warm up. Mittens or gloves are a must. No tight jeans as they restrict movement.

• Rental skates are not available. Please make sure your skate blades are sharp and your boots fit properly. No double-blade skates are allowed.

• 3’s/4’s Advanced class: This class is for 3 and 4 year olds who have some to minimal ice skating experience. They should know how to do the following skills: standing up on the ice, forward marching and some backwards skating.

SNOW PLOW SAM (4-7 YEARS OLD): There are four levels in this curriculum. Once all 4 levels are passed students will advance to Basic 3. This curriculum is designed to develop the preliminary coordination and strength necessary to move on skates.

• Snow Plow Sam 1: This class is designed for kids 4-7 years old who have no to minimal ice skating experience. They will learn the following basic skills: forward marching, glides, dips, and start backwards wiggles.

• Snow Plow Sam 2: This class is designed for kids 4-7 years old who have passed Snow Plow Sam 1. They will continue to practice skills learned in SPS 1 as well as learning new skills such as: backward wiggles, swizzles and beginning snow plow stop.

• Snow Plow Sam 3: This class is designed for kids 4-7 years old who have passed Snow Plow Sam 1 and 2. Skaters will continue practicing skills from the previous levels as well as learn new skills such as: one foot glides, forward and backward swizzles, etc.

• Snow Plow Sam 4: This class is designed for kids 4-7 years old who have passed Snow Plow Sam 1, 2, and 3. Skaters will continue practicing previously learned skills as well as new skills such as: backward two foot glide, backward swizzles, rocking horse, etc.

LEARN TO SKATE

THE BASIC SIX:

These six levels introduce the fundamentals of skating moves which include forward and backward skating, stops, crossovers and turns. Upon completion of the Basic Six, skaters will have the knowl edge to advance to the Free Skate Levels.

• Basic 1: This class is designed for skaters ages 4 and up with little or no skating experience. Skaters will learn the following basic skills: forward/backward skating, swizzles, stopping, etc.

• Basic 2-3: These classes are designed for skaters who have passed Basic 1 and/or Snow Plow Sam level 4. Skaters will be evaluated the first night to determine appropriate basic skills level.

• Basic 2: Skaters will work on scooter pushes, one foot glides, moving stops, etc.

• Basic 3: Skaters will work on backward one foot glide, backward swizzles, forward slalom, etc.

• Basic 4-6: Designed for skaters who have passed Basic 3. Skaters will work on edges, crossovers, spins, stroking, etc.

• Basic 4: Skaters will practice previous skills as well as learn backward skating, turns, edges, etc.

• Basic 5: Skaters will work on crossovers, backward pumps, edges, spins, etc.

• Basic 6: Skaters will work on backward crossovers, edges, turns, spins, etc.

PRE-FREE SKATE AND FREE SKATE 1-4: Designed for figure skaters that have passed Basic 6.

• Pre-Free Skate: Skaters will work on 3-turns, edges, crossovers, and beginning spins. They must have experience and have passed the Basic Skills levels before signing up for pre-free skate.

• Free Skate 1-4: Skaters will continue practicing previously learned skills in pre-free skate. They will learn how to do spins, backward 3-turns/edges, etc.

HOCKEY TRACK (4 years and older that have passed Snow Plow Sam Level 4 or Basic 2)

Designed for skaters who plan to play hockey or are currently playing hockey. Skaters will work on stronger forward and backward skating, stops, crossovers, edge work, etc. All elements will be taught without a stick or puck.

Rosemount residents can drop their string lights in the containers near the Parks and Recreation Department at the Community Center or the Steeple Center lobby anytime during building hours from November 14, 2022 to January 31, 2023. Holiday lights are also accepted year-round at The Recycling Zone, located at 3365 Dodd Road, Eagan. Please do not drop off cord adapters, plastic rope lights, CFL lights, or battery packs. Garlands, fake trees, statuary, and metal fixtures are not accepted.

CANCELLATIONS: We reserve the right to cancel an activity if registrations are insufficient. Minimum/maxi mum requirements are set for each program. If an activity is cancelled, you will be notified as soon as possible and receive a full refund.

REFUND POLICY: Registration fees for programs cancelled by the Parks and Recreation Department or can celled by the participant prior to the registration deadline will be fully refunded. Due to circumstances beyond our control, there are no refunds for certain preregistered programs.

These classroom-driving courses will provide you with a certificate that by state law permits a reduction in your insurance premiums. The certif icate is good for three years!

8-Hour Program:

Drivers over 55 are eligible to receive a 10% discount on their auto insurance upon comple tion of this program. This 8-hour program offers a learning experience for participants by provid ing instruction from a certified professional who uses the most up-to-date research in the field. FRONT PORCH PLAYERS (FPP) Rosemount’s Community Theater, the Front Porch Players, is for all ages. This group produces plays for all ages and levels of actors: from melodramas, to improv, to full length Broadway plays. Everyone is invited to audition for these performances. The FPP of Rosemount has produced several shows over the past years, including Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple and Barefoot in the Park, and a classic, Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House

SECOND ACT PLAYERS (SAP) RAAC has a senior theater group made up of 50+ adults – some with theater experience and many without. SAP puts on two plays each year. It also has an Outreach program that goes on the road to senior housing groups, nursing homes, and assisted living centers, presenting a program of light-hearted skits and songs. There are many ways to participate. You do not have to act or appear on a stage. Just come and have fun! If you’re over 50, you automatically can be part of SAP when you join RAAC.

ART EXHIBITS RAAC curates the Steeple Center and Robert Trail Library art galleries. Professional artists’ work is shown at the Steeple Center for 2-3 months, while emerging and student artists’ work is shown monthly at the library. Admission is free during Steeple Center and library hours.

DONATE RAAC is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. Our work is funded by grants, memberships, income from events, and donations. Come check out the Steeple Center! The facility is open Mondays-Thursdays, 8:30am-3:30pm and Fridays from 8:30am12pm, with evenings and weekends dependent on scheduled events and activities. The facility features a lobby area with a beautiful fireplace, gorgeous floor to ceiling windows and café-style seating, which is open to the general public. It is a great place to stop in for a cup of coffee, play a card or board game with a friend from our fully stocked game cabinet, or meet new people! The Steeple Center is home to the Rosemount Area Seniors and all senior programming (see pages 23-31 for more information), as well as many programs and events hosted by the Rosemount Area Arts Council (see pages 34-35 for more information).

In addition, the Steeple Center is an ideal facility for your next meeting, event, fundraiser, party, wedding ceremony or reception. Assembly Hall seats 192 with tables and chairs or 204 in theatre style rows. The new addition features a full catering kitchen, conference room, and three large multi-purpose rooms perfect for programs, meetings, seminars, and small events. This beautifully updated space offers a variety of options, making it the perfect rental option for any celebration or gathering. Rosemount Parks and Recreation will begin accepting 2024 reservations after the first of the year.

MEETING ROOMS: Each of our smaller meeting rooms seat up to 24 people. One larger meeting room holds up to 48. All rooms have large whiteboards. Hold your next meeting here!
