OLDER ADULT TRIPS

FALL MIGRATION TOUR

The first stop on this unique trip will be at LARK Toys in Kellogg, MN for self-serve coffee and muffin (included) and a chance to briefly look around the store filled with specialty items, books, and an antique collection. While there, we will pick up our Wildlife Tour Interpreter, who will take us along the migration corridor of the Mississippi River. Each year migration patterns change depending on food sources and weather conditions, but our guide will make adjustments to the route in order to view species of waterfowl, raptors and shorebirds moving from their northern summer nesting areas to warmer southern wintering grounds. Spectacular tundra swans, majestic eagles, ducks and geese use this migration corridor. Stops along the route will extend into the La Crosse area along the river valley. Bring your binoculars! Lunch will be at the Blue Moon Restaurant in Onalaska, where we

will enjoy a cup of soup and club sandwich with turkey, ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo on sourdough bread along with homemade potato chips, beverage, and a cookie. After lunch we will visit the Onalaska Upper Mississippi River National Fish & Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. View some interactive exhibits about the diverse wildlife and habitats including one that allows you to “walk on water” and see what lies below the surface of the river.

OLDER ADULTS PROGRAMS FOR

SPECIAL EVENTS

All programs for older adults are held at the Rosemount Steeple Center, 14375 South Robert Trail, unless otherwise noted. In addition to all of the scheduled activities and programs at the Steeple Center, we also encourage people to just stop in!

There is always coffee brewing in the beautiful lobby area, and we have a book and puzzle exchange and more!

FALLS PREVENTION EVENT

This unique event combines storytelling, a documentary film, and insights from subject matter experts. While it is geared to be a falls prevention program, the effectiveness comes from the presentation’s exploration of the complex social/family dynamics, attitudes and risks we all feel as we grow older. Following a fall risk screening, view the documentary, “Saving Claire”. The film explores the complex nature of aging, resistance to change, and all the relatable patterns that increase fall risk. Claire’s journey is a cautionary tale. The film explores Claire’s attitudes and actions, the spiral after her fall, and the dramatic events that follow. After the film, hear from a panel with PT/OT professionals who will offer insights, demonstrate exercises and answer questions. Presented by Above & Beyond Senior Services.
