Welcome readers to the “News from the Steeple Center”, a publication for 55 plus/seniors in the Rosemount community. The Steeple Center houses the majority of the programs and events for those 55 plus. Programs are offered by the City of Rosemount Parks & Recreation Department.

Steeple Center Hours :

Monday-Thursday: 8:30am 3:30pm Friday: 8:30am-12pm

Aftereatingadelicious Swedishlunchinthearea,learnmoreabouttheearlysettlers,whoweregreetedwithalandscape reminiscentoftheirhomelands. Beginninginthemid-1800s,thiscommunityofdairyfarmershelped eachotherraisebarns,tendfieldsandcanfoodforwinter,needinglittlebeyondacreamery,mercantile andchurch. Whilethere,wewillpickupourWildlifeTourInterpreter,whowilltakeusalongthemigration corridoroftheMississippiRiver. Eachyearmigrationpatternschangedependingonfoodsourcesand weatherconditions,butourguidewillmakeadjustmentstotherouteinordertoviewspeciesofwaterfowl, raptorsandshorebirdsmovingfromtheirnorthernsummernestingareastowarmersouthernwintering grounds. Spectaculartundraswans,majesticeagles,ducksandgeeseusethismigrationcorridor. Stopsalong theroutewillextendintotheLaCrosseareaalongtherivervalley.Bringyourbinoculars! Lunchwillbeatthe BlueMoonRestaurantinOnalaska,wherewewillenjoyacupofsoupandclubsandwichwithturkey,ham, bacon,lettuce,tomato,onionandmayoonsourdoughbreadalongwithhomemadepotatochips,beverage,and acookie. Thissupportgroupforpeople withearly-stagedementiaand theircaregiversprovides information,resourcesandsupportdirectlytothe personimpacted. Alzheimer’sAssociation supportgroups,conductedbytrainedfacilitators areasafeplaceforpeoplewithdementiato developasupportsystem,exchangepractical informationonlivingwellwithdementia,learn aboutcommunityresources,andtalkthrough issuesandconcerns. RAAC’s UFO and PHD Group:

ThePHD/UFO(ProjectsHalfDone/UnfishedObjects) groupisnotacraftsgroup,butpeoplewhoenjoy creatingworksofartinvariousFibermediums. The typesofworkinvolvequilting,embroidery,woolwork, needlepoint,crossstitch,hardanger,knitting,crocheting, crewel,woolfeltingandanyothertypesoffiberart. Peoplejointhegroupnotonlytoworkontheirprojects buttolearnfromothers,showofftheirfinishedwork, andtosocialize.

Thereisnofeetojointhegroupnordoesonehavetobe aRAACmember. Anyonecancomeandjointhegroup andbringtheirPHD/UFOswiththem. Welovetoseethe differentfinishedprojectsandlearnnewtechniquesthat othersareusing.
