Welcome readers to the “News from the Steeple Center”, a publication for 55 plus/seniors in the Rosemount community. The Steeple Center houses the majority of the programs and events for those 55 plus. Programs are offered by the City of Rosemount Parks & Recreation Department.
Steeple Center Hours :

Osceola Train Ride*

Enjoy the perfect fall day with a ride on a historical train operated by the Minnesota Transportation Museum! Return to 1948 as you ride on a vintage train from Osceola to Marine on St. Croix. Traveling high on the bluffs, enjoy the beautiful woodlands full of wildlife in the backwaters. Cross the St. Croix River on a Swing Bridge that used to open to let the Steamboats pass through. An onboard box lunch includes a turkey sandwich with tomato, lettuce, chips, cookie, and a beverage. On the way home, we will stop at Pine Tree Apple Orchard to shop. Each fall they have many different apple varieties to choose from as well as fabulous apple bakery products.

International Owl Center*

Cost - $84/person
Bus leaves Community Center at 8:45am and returns at approximately 6:00pm Take in the fall foliage as we head south for a lunch at the Chickadee Cottage in beautiful Lake City. The menu will include old fashioned chicken salad with grapes, almonds, and ring pasta in a delectable creamy dressing, accompanied by colorful fresh fruit and homemade nut bread, beverage and a dessert. After lunch is the main attraction, the International Owl Center in Houston, MN, whose mission is to make the world a better place for owls through education and research. The center includes interactive displays to learn about these fantastic, feathered creatures as well as a fun gift shop. Our visit will also include the informative program, “Owls Through the Ages.” See a live owl and learn about the history of the International Owl Center. Owls are found all around the world and people have varying opinions about them. In this program, learn how owls are seen in different cultures, travel back in time to the very first owl cave carving. Find out how people are combating negative stereotypes about owls around the world.
Minnesota Military History Museum*

Bus leaves Community Center at 7:45am and returns at approximately 5:15pm Honor Veterans Day with a trip to Minnesota’s Military History Museum at Camp Ripley. Nowhere in Minnesota are the experiences of military men and women so vividly captured and interpreted for the public. Discover the stories and contributions of Minnesota citizens who have served and sacrificed, from our state’s earliest years to the present, in all branches of service and on the home front. See the actual equipment, weapons, uniforms, and memorabilia that bear witness to history. Gain a glimpse into what life was like for those “who were there.” After leaving the museum, have lunch at the Black & White Restaurant in downtown Little Falls including a soup and sandwich special, petite dessert, and a beverage. After lunch take a few minutes to shop at nearby stores. The town was established in 1848 and is on the Downtown National Historic Register. See murals by artist Frank Gosiak, depicting the logging era and main street Little Falls in the early 1900's.
A Swedish Christmas*

Bus leaves Community Center at 9:00am and returns at approximately 2:45pm The first stop of the day will be at Ingebretsen’s Scandinavian Gifts and Foods. Admire the beauty, integrity and craftsmanship of imports from throughout Scandinavia. Shop for gift items, authentic clothing, baked goods, traditional Nordic foods, lutefisk and many more wonderful things. We will then head to the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis and have some time to shop in the Bokhandel Gift Shop. Have a traditional Swedish lunch in a European atmosphere with the Smӧrgåsbord buffet including beet salad, cucumber dill salad, assorted bread and butter, lingonberries, mashed potatoes, Swedish meatballs, coffee, and water. After lunch, step back in time and experience the exquisite 33-room Turnblad mansion on a guided tour. It will be decorated for the holiday season and includes detailed wood carvings, sculpted ceilings, and hand-crafted Swedish tile stoves. Learn about the fascinating Turnblad family, the art and architecture of the mansion, and the history of early Minneapolis. In 1908, the Turnblads, a Swedish immigrant family, completed the construction of their castle-like mansion. Twenty-one years later, they gave it all away to the community, founding the museum and cultural center that would become the American Swedish Institute. Today, the American Swedish Institute is a place to learn about and experience Swedish, Swedish-American, and Nordic culture, learn about the role of Swedish and other immigrants in Minnesota’s history.
