Upcoming Trips & Outings

Mankato History Tour*

Wednesday, September 18

Registration Deadline: Monday, August 19

Cost - $91/person

Bus leaves Community Center at 7:45am and returns at approximately 4:15pm

Take a step back in time and explore the 16-room historic Hubbard House in Mankato. It chronicles the life of R.D. and his family from 1871 to 1905. The adjoining 1890 Carriage House contains a collection of horse-drawn vehicles and antique automobiles. Note: this tour includes a second floor and no elevator. Those guests who cannot climb a flight of stairs can be accommodated on the main floor and in the Carriage House. We will then have a delicious lunch at Number 4 American Bar & Kitchen including a classic chicken pot pie with a buttery flaky crust, and a mini crème brulee for dessert. The last stop of the day will be the Blue Earth History Center for a docent-led tour. The museum features hands-on history with a diorama of 1880s Mankato, displays and exhibits from the area, and treasures from local author Maud Hart Lovelace, best known for the Betsy-Tacy series.

*Requires pre-registration. Please see page 2 for registration options.

Redhead Creamery*

Thursday, June 13

Registration Deadline: Monday, May 13

Cost - $93/person

Bus leaves Community Center at 8:45am and returns at approximately 5:15pm

Start the day in Sauk Center for lunch at The Palmer House Café, located in the historic Palmer House Hotel that is wonderfully arranged, full of antiques, fascinating memorabilia and history. You will get a cup of homemade soup, a grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce and tomato, fries, and a beverage. We will then head to the Redhead Creamery and Farm where we will learn how cheese is made and what a day in the life of a dairy cow is like. First, visit the cow side of the farm to see the Jer-Lindy dairy calves and heifers, the pregnant mama cows, and the milking parlor where they are milked twice a day. Next up comes the cheese plant, where you'll get an overview of the entire cheese-making process through the huge picture windows. Learn the history of their own dairy cheese story, the farm sustainability and conservation efforts implemented. Have a mooooving conversation with some of our beautiful bovines, and last but not least watch a video on cheese making at Redhead Creamery. Then you can sample some ridiculously good cheese! **Please note that this tour involves a considerable amount of walking and standing. Wear stable and comfortable shoes. The site is accessible, so you can bring a collapsible wheelchair, walker or cane.

“Triple Espresso” at Plymouth Playhouse*

Thursday, July 25

Registration Deadline: Monday, June 3

Cost - $94/person

Bus leaves Community Center at 11:30am and returns at approximately 5:00pm

Enjoy a wonderful Luncheon Pasta Buffet at the Ramada by Wyndham Hotel and Conference Center before moving into the Plymouth Playhouse Theater on the lower level of the hotel for a performance “Triple Espresso”. It tells the story of three guys whose bid for showbiz fame and fortune ended in 4 minutes of magnificent failure on national television. Hugh Butternut, Buzz Maxwell, and Bobby Bean tell their rags-to-rags story earnestly, with hysterical results. Butternut is a musician, a vulnerable soul with a lounge lizard smile; Maxwell is an uncertain magician with an attitude; and Bean is an irrepressible, all-over-the-map entertainer with big dreams. The laughter is infectious, and the comedy appeals to everyone from first graders to college students to baby boomers.

Anoka History Tour*

Wednesday, May 15

Registration Deadline: Monday, April 15

Cost - $85/person

Bus leaves Community Center at 7:45am and returns at approximately 3:45pm

This fun day will start out at Hans' Bakery in Anoka, who now partners with Wuollet Bakery to offer a wider variety of cakes and pastries to purchase. We will then head to the Anoka History Center for a docent led tour, celebrating both the told and untold stories of Anoka County and its people. A portion of the exhibit space is reserved for a military gallery, which features all the major conflicts since the Civil War. After the guided tour, explore galleries at your own pace and visit the gift store. We will then take a narrated riding tour of the area, full of history and mystery. This historic village is situated on two rivers, making it the perfect place to power the saw mills. Enjoy the folklore, the traditions, industries and culture that has caused the community to thrive. After the tour we will head to the Green Haven Golf Course for lunch at the Tavern at Green Haven. You will have a choice of a walleye sandwich or chicken parmesan.

*Requires pre-registration. Please see page 2 for registration options.
