Upcoming Parks & Rec Trips & Outings
Northfield Tour*
Thursday, May 18
Registration Deadline: Monday, April 17 Cost - $82/person
Bus leaves Community Center at 9:15am and returns at approximately 3pm Our day trip will start out at the Northfield Historical Society Museum, home to Northfield's famous bank raid site. It appears as it did in September 1876, when the James-Younger Gang attempted to rob it. There are also rotating exhibits on the history of the city, its region, and the state. The museum store offers souvenirs and books of local and regional interest offered in the atmosphere of an old-fashioned dry goods store. While half the group is exploring the museum, the other will have a chance to check out some of the wonderful shops in the historic downtown district. After the groups switch places, the next stop will be The Ole Store restaurant where we will enjoy a Swedish meatball luncheon along with a cookie and beverage. After lunch, a local guide will board the coach for a city tour of Northfield focusing on its history. Many of the buildings in Northfield look as they did a century ago, with windows and cornices embellished with 19th-century architectural detail. The village is charming and sophisticated, historic and colorful, artsy and active, secluded and connected, quiet and happening. The tour will include the campuses of Carleton College, founded in 1866 and St. Olaf college, founded in 1874 to educate the Norwegian immigrants who had settled around the area.
*Registration opens March 7th. Please see page 2 for registration options.

“Murder on the Orient Express” at the Guthrie*
Wednesday, June 7
Registration Deadline: Monday, April 3
Cost - $90/person
Bus leaves Community Center at 10:00am and returns at approximately 4:00pm
Start the day with a light lunch at the Hen House Eatery in Minneapolis, including a cup of soup made from scratch daily, a chicken salad sandwich, and a beverage and cookie. After lunch we will head to the Guthrie Theater and take a few minutes to explore public areas of the building. The Guthrie is home to many noteworthy features including one of the longest escalators in the Midwest, the Endless Bridge, a cantilever that extends 178 feet from the face of the building, and the amber glass box. Dubbed the Citizens of Minnesota Overlook, this lobby with amber windows provides a near 360-degree view of the historic neighborhood. Once doors open, find your seats to enjoy a performance of Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express,” a whodone-it mystery. Passengers aboard the opulent Orient Express awake to frightful news: overnight, the American business mogul among them was stabbed to death behind locked doors. Thankfully, debonair detective Hercule Poirot is on the train and on the case. He promptly begins interviewing suspects, securing alibis and forming theories about the killer, taking the audience on a wildly glamorous crime-solving ride.
Munsinger Gardens & Stearns County History Museum*
Thursday, July 13
Registration Deadline: Monday, June 12
Cost - $84/person
Bus leaves Community Center at 8:30am and returns at approximately 4:00pm The first stop of the day will be at the Munsinger & Clemens Gardens, nestled along the shores of the Mississippi River. The Virginia Clemens Rose Garden features a series of gardens reminiscent of European gardens. Please note that this is a self-guided tour that will require walking; you are encouraged to wear durable and comfortable footwear. After your stroll through the gardens, enjoy a lunch at the Coyote Moon Grille restaurant overlooking the Territory Golf Club in St. Cloud. Lunch will include an entrée, popover, salad, side dish, beverage, and a dessert. We will then head to the Stearns County History Museum for a guided tour of the collection of photographs, printed materials and artifacts related to the history of Stearns County and its diverse heritage. After the guided tour, take time to explore the two floors of gallery space at your own pace.
Lake Minnetonka Cruise*

The top deck is up an additional flight of stairs and is uncovered. The Boaters Boxed Lunch will be served on board and includes a signature gourmet chicken salad on a croissant with lettuce, fresh fruit, pasta salad, dessert, and a soft drink. Hear a special Lady of the Lake live narration about Lake Minnetonka from the Captain and crew. They will talk about the Big Island, and you will see the waterfront mansions, restaurants, marinas and gardens.
