Welcome readers to the “News from the Steeple Center”, a publication for 55 plus/seniors in the Rosemount community. The Steeple Center houses the majority of the programs and events for those 55 plus. Programs are offered by the City of Rosemount Parks & Recreation Department.

Soda Bottling Tour & Firefighters Museum*

Bus leaves Community Center at 9:30am and returns at approximately 4:15pm The first stop of this fun trip will be at Grandpa Joe’s Candy & Soda Shop. (Formerly Blue Sun Soda & Sweets Shop) in Spring Lake Park. We will start in the bottling plant with a class on how they bottle soda. We will then move into the classic soda fountain to learn how to craft a wide variety of flavors. At the conclusion of the presentation, you can make purchases in the retail space, which includes a huge selection of soda, candy, as well as toys, games and puzzles. Lunch will be at Jax Café where you will have a choice of: baked chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and a vegetable, Swedish Meatballs with potatoes and a vegetable, or butternut squash ravioli. Each choice comes with chocolate mousse for dessert and coffee, tea or milk. Our adventure concludes with a stop at the Minnesota Firefighters Museum for a guided tour. It is one of the largest fire specific museums in the nation, with a collection that includes patches, photos, and countless other fire related items from helmets to fire extinguishers to gear and a variety of tools. They have a number of exhibits including the 35W bridge collapse, fire box alarm communication system, and a replicated station crew quarters complete with brass pole.

Registration for all four trips will open on Monday, December 9th at 8:00am. You can register online or in person at the Steeple Center. The Steeple Center will open early at 8:00am that morning. Please do not go to the Parks & Rec office at the Community Center, as it is still closed for construction.
“Just the Way YouAre” at IvesAuditorium*
Thursday, February 13

Cost - $90/person
Bus leaves Community Center at 10:45am and returns at approximately 4:00pm Enjoy a day at the elegant jewel-box Gideon S. Ives Auditorium located on the 80-acre Minnesota Masonic Heritage Center campus along the Minnesota River in Bloomington. Lunch will be buffet style, and the menu will include: entrée, potatoes or rice, vegetables, dinner rolls, dessert, and a beverage. After lunch and during the intermission, visit the Masonic Museum and Library, which includes six galleries that showcase the history of Masonry in Minnesota. We will then move into the state-of-the-art concert hall opened in 2016 for the performance of “Just The Way You Are.” In celebration of Valentine's Day, the Sidekick Theatre presents an array of classic romantic songs from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, featuring hits from Elvis Presley, The Righteous Brothers, The Bee Gees, Carole King, Billy Joel and more. Showcasing your favorite Sidekick Theatre musicians performing such songs as 'Can't Help Falling in Love', 'Wonderful Tonight', 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You' and of course 'Just the Way You Are’, expect an atmosphere of fun and romance at Sidekick Theatre this Valentine's Day!
Target Field Tour*

This adventure will include a 90-minute walking/standing tour of Target Field. Go Behind the Scenes and experience the ballpark as only players and staff do! Hear the history of the ballpark and of the Minnesota Twins. Highlights of the tour may include: Delta SKY360° Club, Herb Carneal Press Box, Private Luxury Suite Level, Budweiser Roof Deck, Service Level, Various Bars & Restaurants, the Clubhouse, Batting Cage, and Dugouts. After the tour, shop at the Twins New Era Team Store, home for authentic Twins merchandise, and collectibles (NOTE: credit card transactions only). After the tour, have lunch at Murray's Steak House, serving customers in stylish surroundings since 1946. The menu will include: short ribs, mashed potatoes, green beans, tiny chocolate dessert, and a beverage.
“Grease” at Chanhassen Dinner Theatre*

Enjoy a great meal and a great show at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre! Upon arrival at the theater, guests can select from a limited menu that includes an entrée, salad, vegetable, bread, potato or rice, and a beverage. After lunch, we will take in a performance of the beloved musical “Grease”! Join Sandy, Danny and the rest of the Burger Palace Boys and Pink Ladies for an affectionate satire of high school life in the 1950s. Don’t miss the unforgettable tunes like: “Summer Nights,” “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee,” “We Go Together,” “Greased Lightnin’,” “Beauty School Dropout,” AND added songs made popular in the beloved film: “Grease (Is The Word),” “Hopelessly Devoted to You” and “You’re the One That I Want.” It’s a high-octane rock ‘n’ roll party packed with explosive energy!
