NDA 2025 President

Greetings Family, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to all our past leaders for their dedication and hard work Because of your efforts, we are where we are today! I am thrilled to be back on the board to serve and am looking forward to collaborating with the Executive Committee, Board of Trustees, Executive Director, and SNDA. Additionally, I am eager to work alongside NDHA, NDAA, ANDA, and NDAF in any capacity that may be needed So far, I have attended several New Dentist Zoom meetings, as well as our members-only DEI conversation. I have also participated in the Membership and Women’s Health Symposium Committee meetings. One of my key goals this year is to help increase membership To support this objective, I have reached out to several members regarding the payment of their NDA and NDHA dues. Looking ahead, I plan to meet monthly with the SNDA Executive Committee starting this week and attend the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry's First Impression Program next week This aligns with my goal of mentoring, recruiting, and empowering students. Additionally, I aim to establish a mentorship program and join forces with organizations that support NDA I also look forward to returning to Capitol Hill in May to discuss the challenges we face with Congressional leadership, including topics such as water fluoridation, potential Medicaid cuts, workforce models, and issues related to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion As we celebrate college basketball through March Madness, I want to remind you that regardless of whether your team wins the championship, you are an oral health champion someone who advocates for and prevents diseases I’ll leave you with this African proverb: “If you want to go far, go together ” Together, we can achieve more and make a significant impact on the future of oral health! Sincerely,

Subject: First Quarter Chairman of the Board Report – 2025
Dear Members of the Board,
As we wrap up the first quarter of 2025, I am pleased to present an overview of the activities, progress, and challenges faced by the Board and the organization during this period This report highlights key areas of focus, strategic initiatives, and financial performance
1. Overview of the First Quarter
The first quarter has been a period of continued progress in many areas, though we have also faced some challenges that require our attention. Overall, the organization is on track with its annual goals, and we remain committed to fulfilling our mission of promoting oral health equity among people of color by harnessing the collective power of its members, advocating for the needs of and mentoring dental students of color, and raising the profile of the profession in our communities
2. Strategic Initiatives and Progress
Several important initiatives were prioritized this quarter, which are integral to the organization’s longterm strategy Below are the updates on these initiatives:
[Initiative 1: Strategic Planning Process]
The first quarter saw significant progress in our long-term strategic planning We convened a series of strategic planning sessions with leadership and key stakeholders, focusing on identifying key opportunities for growth, innovation, and efficiency These efforts have laid the foundation for the comprehensive strategic plan to be presented to the Board for approval during the Annual Convention.
[Initiative 2: Standard Operating Procedures]
As part of our ongoing commitment to standardized operating processes, the Executive Director has begun to review and update our policies and programs. The completion of an assessment of current policies and practices will be followed by recommended final changes to be presented during the Annual Convention.
Our goal is to move NDA from the "this is how it has always been done" phase to careful adherence to SOP

[Initiative 3: Technology and Infrastructure]
Our Executive Director has made significant strides in upgrading our systems It is my recommendation that NDA considers the implementation of a new cloud-based system which will help us improve data management and operational efficiency.
Our National Office has received an outstanding facelift making the space more inviting for not only guests but our current staff
The National Office employed staff has grown We have downsized in the areas of contracted consultants We hope to fully replace Consultants for Employed Staff and invest in staff development to foster longevity and efficiency
3. Financial Performance
The financial performance of the organization remains strong, with revenue for the quarter exceeding expectations. The Budget and Finance Committee has reviewed and approved the 2025 budget using key financial metrics.
However, we have great cost overruns stemming from the 2024 Annual Convention, which we are addressing with corrective measures. The Board will continue to monitor this closely and provide recommendations as necessary The first measure is enhanced communication with Committee Chairs and program leaders; thorough review of program's budgets, and removal of Chairs and Leads ability to enter NDA into any financial obligations We will continue to develop a plan and implement actions that will help us to satisfy the lofty debt that exists with Caesar's of Las Vegas
Through the great efforts of our Executive Director Mr Ware and President Baptiste, we are seeing growing membership and a Corporate Roundtable with more dues paying members than ever before We will continue to strengthen our corporate relations
The House of Delegates will consider at this meeting an amendment to our By-Laws to include a Corporate Relations Committee that will work closely with our Executive Director and President-Elect to ensure stronger corporate ties.
4 Board Governance and Engagement
This quarter, the Board held two full meetings-inclusive of Midwinter, focusing on governance and strategy alignment We have made substantial progress in reviewing our governance structure and are in the process of implementing a more robust set of procedures to ensure greater transparency and accountability across the organization.

Add a little bit of body Board Committees: All Board committees have met regularly, and their work is progressing well. A few committees are preparing reports for the next full Board meeting, where they will share updates on their respective focus areas Trustee Engagement: As we move forward, it is critical that all Board members continue to engage actively in meetings, provide valuable insights, and stay closely connected with the organization's key initiatives Leadership Development: We will place more emphasis on the Eddie G Smith Leadership Institute to ensure our leaders of the future are properly engaged and prepared to move the organization into the future Success planning is of utmost importance to the Association than ever before.
5. Challenges and Areas of Focus for Next Quarter
While the first quarter has been successful in many respects, we are aware of several areas that require focused attention in the coming months:
[Challenge 1: Working from a deficit]
We have experienced great gains in meeting our annual fundraising targets, however we recognize we will need to work hard to push the Association out of a deficit. A deeper engagement with donors and new fundraising strategies will be key for the remainder of this fiscal year. I challenge the Board to be closely bonded in recognizing and combating unnecessary spending.
[Challenge 2: Membership Growth and Retention]
The Association is currently addressing some concerns related to member retention and participationparticularly in key leadership positions The Board will continuously discuss potential strategic initiatives to support this effort We will work closely with the House of Delegates to enhance the engagement and growth of our Societies

As we look ahead to the second quarter, we will focus on the following:
Priorities for Q2-Q4 2025
Finalizing and approving the plans for the 2025 Annual Convention.
Strengthening our fundraising and donor relations strategies
Finalizing the review of our internal policies and procedures
Continuing efforts to enhance our organizational culture, particularly in terms of leadership development and members' engagement
Solidify the location and operations of the National Office
Rational efficiency across our programs and activities to ensure we are making the best use of resources.
I appreciate the continued support of each Trustee, and I look forward to working together as we move into the next phase of the year I welcome any questions or further discussion during our upcoming Board meeting.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to the National Dental Association.
Sincerely,
Reginald O. Salter Chairman, Board of Trustees

of Trustees Members
Greetings!! The National Dental Assistant Association continues to work at elevating our organization to the highest level possible. We have increased our membership with new members and brought back past members. We are thankful for the new members and returning members, but we desperately are seeking more members to sustain the organization NDAA would like all NDA family members to support our raffle tickets which are 10 00 a book, place an ad in our souvenir booklet, and the dentist to bring their assistants and managers. We are asking that each provider register at least one staff member We are seeking to increase our NDAA membership NDA, we hope that you will register your staff with us as we move forward. We plan to equip staff with being productive and informed on past and current changes in dental health. This year we are focusing on Mental Health in the dental office We have realized that several individuals are dealing with mental health issues, and we are able to bring in speaker/coach (Tiffany Scales) for a session/event. Joint Committee Report to the Executive Board
Date: March 14, 2025
Committee Name: New Dentist Committee (NDC) & 40 Under 40 Planning Committee
Introduction:
The New Dentist Committee and the 40 Under 40 Planning Committee are excited to continue their mission of engaging young dentists within the NDA. Building on the success of our sold-out
40 Under 40 Gala in Las Vegas, we are eager to maintain this momentum into the coming year. Through an active GroupMe platform, we foster collaboration, share ideas, and provide support, ensuring that early-career dentists remain engaged and connected.
Recent Activities and Accomplishments:
● New Dentist Networking Social – During the Inaugural Scholarship Gala weekend in Washington, DC, we hosted a networking event at a local rooftop venue With over 50 attendees, both local and out-of-state, we successfully recruited new NDA members who joined and paid dues on-site
● Speaker Series: Money, Power, Respect – Navigating Early Dental Careers with Success – This well-attended virtual series has covered critical topics such as financial planning and AI & emerging technologies in dentistry. Participants have received free CE credits, and the third installment will focus on managing the Medically Compromised Dental Patient.
● Survival Guide for Early-Career Dentists – We are developing a comprehensive resource, Survival Guide for Early-Career Dentists: Thriving in the First 5 Years, which provides practical advice on clinical skills, business acumen, patient communication, and personal well-being We would like to distribute a printed version and produce a complementary video series for social media to make the content more interactive
● 40 Under 40 Awardee Engagement Survey – We recently distributed a survey to last year’s 40 Under 40 recipients to gather data on their NDA involvement, career progress, and feedback. This information will help us enhance our outreach and impact within the profession.
- Last year’s awardees have matched into postdoc residency programs, taken on leadership positions within the public health sector, been promoted to associate professorships and have been honored with mayoral appointments to the District of Columbia Board of Dentistry, to name a few achievements
- Survey results also suggested that membership participation in local chapters can be improved upon, in addition to direct outreach for leadership positions and more timely communication.

● Nomination Timeline – Nominations for this year's award ceremony are currently open. We are especially encouraging our local chapters to nominate one upstanding member of their society who has demonstrated dedication, volunteerism, and leadership. The deadline to submit nominations is March 29th, and we aim to have the recipients selected and award letters ready to send by April 21st
● Gala Selections – The 40 Under 40 Awards Gala is entitled Radiance & Excellence: Honoring Black Dentists of Tomorrow The theme is Great Gatsby/Speakeasy We are currently collecting proposals from vendors to create this fantastic event Future Plans:
Looking ahead, we aim to expand our outreach efforts, strengthen professional development opportunities, and continue fostering a supportive network for early-career dentists. Through innovative programming and strategic initiatives, we remain committed to enriching the NDA community.
Conclusion:

Proposed Amendments
Proposed Amendment #1
Add Corporate Relations Committee Chapter VII Section 13
The Corporate Relations Committee (CRC) will make recommendations regarding corporate partnerships, contracts, agreements, and other provisions to the Board of Trustees for its final approval.
The CRC shall consist of no more than five members appointed by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. The Executive Director shall serve as an Ex Officio member. The President-Elect shall serve as the Chair of the CRC.
The duties of the CRC:
Review and discuss concepts for the solicitation of funds; Review reports for the NDA Board of Trustees, grantors and/or funding agencies; Meet with the NDA’s Budget and Finance Committee to establish annual goals and review quarterly reports;
Develop protocols and guidelines for the NDA corporate development and the NDA-CRT for Board of Trustees approval; Attend CRT and corporate meetings as required to continue NDA corporate development strategies;
Provide reports to the Board of Trustees no less than twice annually.
Proposed Amendment #2 Term limits of Chairman maximum 3 terms and provides
for election during Annual convention rather than Chapter VII, 12:2
The Chairman is one of the two Trustees from his/her District. The Chairman shall be elected by the Board of Trustees by secret ballot during the annual convention. Election of Chair shall be held only after District elections have concluded. The Chairman shall hold no other elective office and must have served at least two years on the Board prior to election. The term of office will be one year beginning on January 1 of the following year with a maximum of three consecutive years as Chairman.
Rationale: Electing the Chairman during the convention allows a newly elected Chairman to have time for a proper transition with current Chair, President-Elect, Executive Director, Trustees, and corporate partners prior to taking office January 1. Current amendment allows a new Chair approximately 1 month to transition
