Happy New Year! Let me start off by saying how incredibly honored I am to be stepping into the role as your new District Deputy Regent. For the past few years, Dr. James Feldman has done a remarkable job. So, I definitely have some big shoes to fill.
For those of you that may not know me, I am originally from Canada and completed my dental program at Case Western Reserve University. I practiced in the District for a few years before completing a graduate Endodontic program at Baylor University. Upon completion of the program in 2003, I joined Advanced Endodontic Associates and have not look back.
The Fall of 2023 finally had us meeting jointly with ACD after a three-year hiatus. We had a fabulous turnout at Chef Geoffâs and a great time was had by all. Our speaker, Dr. Kathleen McGrow, put forth a thorough and thought-provoking presentation on Artificial Intelligence and its impact on Dentistry. Please check our Facebook site for photos from the event. Weâre already looking forward to our Spring joint meeting with ACD members. More information on the event will be available shortly. In closing, I would like to take a moment to thank Dr. Reginald Salter for offering to be the Editor of this newsletter. We are extremely grateful and know it will help us keep that much more connected with the membership of District 4.

DISTRICT 4 REGENTâS MESSAGE
Happy New Year and greetings from District 4. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and was able to find some time to spend with family and friends. As the new Regent of District 4, I have attended the ICD National Meetings and have served on many committees. I can assure you that ICDâs mission, vision, and core values are very strong and leading our College in the right direction. As we embark on 2024, please consider recognizing and honoring a colleague by nominating them for Fellowship in the International College of Dentists.
In Fellowship, Michael Conte DMD, MPH Regent, District 4
Greetings from the ICD!
For those of you who do not know me, my name is Jim Feldman and I am your Vice-Regent. I am a native Washingtonian and a third-generation dentist. I graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in 1982 and then completed a GPR at the Wilmington Medical Center. I then moved back to the D.C. area and opened my general dental practice. Over the years, I have been very active in organized dentistry. I was first inducted into the International College of Dentists in 2004 and was selected last year to be the District 4 Vice-Regent.
My function is basically to assist our District 4 Regent, Deputy Regent and Fellows in any way that furthers the mission of the ICD. As such, I encourage everyone to consider nominating qualified candidates for fellowship and help grow the ICD. It is a simple process which I can help you with if needed. I also would encourage all Fellows to attend the 2024 Convocation which will be held September 7, 2024 in Nashville, Tennessee. It is a great way to celebrate and honor our newest Fellows.
With Fellowship,
Jim Feldman, DDS Vice Regent, District 4

INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL MEETING
NOVEMBER 3-5
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA
Report by International Councilor from USA Section 1
Margaret
Culotta-Norton, DDS â USA Section 1, District 4, DC
This past November, I had the opportunity to be one of the representatives of the USA to the International Council meeting that was held in Seoul, South Korea. We had a successful meeting with our International President, Ho-Youl Chang at the helm. He and his Korean Colleagues were generous hosts over the three day meeting that was sponsored by NeoBiotech, an implant company that is owned by Fellow Young-ku Heo and located in South Korea NeoBiotech sponsored the welcome dinner, the Joint Convocation Gala which inducted Fellows from Sections VII (Japan), XI (Korea) and XII (Taiwan) as well as the Farewell Dinner which took place at his manufacturing plant. The food was delicious, but the most important part was getting together with Fellows from around the world, sharing ideas and realizing we are all working toward the same goals of not only serving our patients needs, but also striving to support people all over the world who are in need through our humanitarian efforts
The agenda of the meeting focused on membership and our humanitarian projects The ICD has partnered with Henry Schein Cares who has been very generous to our organization with both product and cash grants for each Section to make Grants to its Fellows humanitarian projects. HSC has given the USA Section $33K in product and $25K in cash to enable the USA Section Foundation to give more Grants to those who apply. Please go to USA-ICD.org to apply. The application for the first round of Product Grants are due very soon, January 31st, so please get your application in quickly
The ICD throughout the world has between 350-400 projects that have been reported Many are looking for Fellows to volunteer. Please go to ICD.org, click on Projects to see what is happening all over the world. If you are interested you may be able to find a project that fits your desire to help others.
On the last day of the meeting, the International Council inducted Dr Argirios Pissiotis from Greece as our 2024 President He has a lot of energy and an ambitious agenda for this year He is joined by President Elect, Dr Ian Doyle from Canada, Vice President, Dr Julio Rodriguez from the USA, Treasurer, Keith Suchy from the USA, Editor, Dr Dov Sidney from the European Section and Past President Ho-Youl Chang from the Korean Section. Please join in welcoming our International leaders.
The 2024 meeting of the International Council will be held at the Greater New Your Dental meeting in NYC November 29-December 4 Hope to see many of you at this meeting where you too can be enriched by meeting and exchanging ideas with Fellows from around the world

FALL JOINT ICD/ACD MEETING
DC chapter held a long overdue joint gathering for Fellows of ICD and ACD in the local area. While typically a Fall and a Spring meeting are held annually, COVID-19 prevented us from having in-person meetings since 2019. Members were excited to reconnect at Chef Geoffâs in Foxhall Square in November of 2023 for a reception & camaraderie, dinner, and a C.E. Program with guest speaker Dr. Kathleen McGrow.
Dr. McGrow is a Global Chief Informatics Nurse Officer for Microsoft Health & Life Sciences. She gave a very engaging presentation on "AI Thought Leadership for Healthcare". 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 Fellows were welcomed enthusiastically and introduced to members formally.

2023: FELLOWS IN ACTION
-palooza: /pÉËloozÉ/- denoting a festival or event, especially one on a large scale, that is devoted to or characterized by a specified thing or person. It is often used in combination with another word to create a unique and festive event, such as "musicapalooza" or "foodpalooza." What happens when an Endodontist is in a palooza type mood? We have RootCanalPalooza!
ICD Fellows-Dr. Kim Menhinick and Dr. Assadipour, both of Advanced Endodontics Associates, joined forces with Fellow Dr. Lucciola Lambruschini, Director of Dental Services at Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Washington, to provide much needed care to children in Washington DC. Fourteen patients were treated and left with healthy smiles and bodies. SERVING OTHERS is what we do!

She is the current Editorial Assistant for the USA Sectionâs newsletterThe Key Fellow Webster started working for ICD in February 2000 and was bestowed Honorary Fellowship in 2008 As a cum laude graduate of the University of Maryland, she began a career in early education before fate led her to ICD-USA Sectionâs Headquarters where she was the Executive Assistant to Dr Robert E Brady who held two positions at the time: the Secretary General for the worldwide College and the Registrar for the USA Section She shared- âWe were the only two paid employees, but then again, there was no website back then Our website takes a LOT of time to run and keep current I didnât even have an email account until 2005, so all of my correspondence with other ICD Sections (countries) was through the mailâ
The first email I received from Fellow Webster was an encouraging one to welcome me to role of Editor for the DC Chapterâs newsletter Thatâs the true definition of Fellowship For that I say THANK YOU Mary Jo We all Thank You for being the heartbeat of ICD USA!
