
The
Rockhampton Grammar School has clear expectations and rules for the wearing of the School uniform. This guide aims to ensure a shared understanding of the expectations and assist RGS students to adhere to the School’s dress and appearance standards.

The Kindergarten –Year 2 uniform

The Year 3 – 12 Academic uniform
Kindergarten – Year 2 Uniform
Students in Prep to Year 2 are to wear the K – 2 uniform as their uniform at all times. Kindergarten students will be informed of their uniform requirements via the Early Learning Centre.
Academic Uniform (Years 3 – 12)
The Academic uniform is to be worn by students on all school days unless otherwise specified.
Sports Uniform (Years 3 – 12)
The Sports uniform is worn when students undertake classes that require athletic dress, such as Physical Education.
• Primary: Students in Years 3 to 6 are allowed to wear their Sports uniform to school on days when they have timetabled sports classes or carnivals and may remain in their Sports uniform for the entire day.
• Secondary: Students may not arrive or depart from school in the Sports uniform. Students must change into their Sports uniform during the break prior to their PE class or other activity (e.g., before school, morning tea or lunch). Students must then change out of their Sports uniform prior to attending their next lesson.

The Year 3 – 12 Sports uniform

The Year 6 – 12 Formal uniform
Regulation black RGS sports shorts with the RGS crest (as per the RGS Uniform Collection Lookbook) are to be worn with the Sports uniform. RGS representative sport shorts or other black shorts are not acceptable. House shirts are permitted to be worn whenever the Sports uniform is allowed.
Swimwear - all swimwear must be predominantly black (including sun shirt).
Formal Uniform (Years 6 – 12)
The Formal uniform, including School tie, may be worn on any day as an alternative to the Academic uniform. In Terms 2 and 3, students in Years 6 to 12 must wear their Formal uniform every Wednesday.
The Formal uniform is also worn for special school occasions as directed by the Deputy to the Headmaster or Head of Primary.
Winter Dress
Students in Years 3 – 12 are not permitted to wear the sports jacket with the Academic or Formal uniforms. Only RGS knitwear or the School blazer are to be worn with the Academic and Formal uniforms.
Female students are permitted to wear plain black tights with their Academic or Formal uniform. Black tights are to cover the student’s feet and are not to be worn with socks.
Dress and Skirt Length
Dresses and skirts must come to the knee.
Dress
Female students must keep all buttons of the Academic red dress fastened at all times to maintain a neat and respectful appearance.
Shirts
All shirts must be tucked in neatly at all times when wearing the K – 2, Academic and Formal uniforms.
Ties
During Terms 2 and 3, all students (boys and girls) in Years 6 to 12 are required to wear ties with their Academic uniform, with the exception of the girls’ dress. Whenever a student (boy or girl) wears the Formal uniform, they must also wear the School tie.
Hats
Students must wear the designated hat associated with their uniform while travelling to and from school and when outside.
In Secondary, the RGS sports cap and bucket hat may be worn with the Academic and Formal uniforms during morning tea and lunch breaks only.
Shoes
K – 2 Uniform
Predominantly white athletic shoes with velcro or white shoelaces.
Academic and Formal Uniforms (Years 3 – 12)
Leather school shoes in traditional style, plain black and lace-up, are permitted. Buckle-style ‘Mary Jane’ shoes, athletic styles, or those with coloured stitching are not permitted.
Students are also permitted to wear black leather, elastic-sided boots with a round toe and low heel. Shoes must be well polished and maintained.
Sports Uniform
• Years 3 – 6 - predominantly white athletic shoes with white shoelaces.
• Secondary - lace-up athletic shoes (canvas shoes not permitted).
Socks
All socks must be worn clearly above the shoes, covering the ankle, and should be plain without any logos.
K – 2 Uniform
• White crew socks
Academic and Formal Uniforms (Years 3 – 12)
• White crew socks – with dress and skirts
• Black crew socks – with shorts and pants
Sports Uniform
• Year 3 – 6 – white crew socks
• Secondary – white or black crew socks
Bags
All students are required to bring the RGS backpack to school each day. The RGS sports bag is recommended for carrying sports clothes or other equipment only, however, a plain black bag or RGS representative sports bag is acceptable. Non-RGS branded bags are not permitted.
Personal Grooming
Hair
Boys’ hair must be neatly cut and groomed, cut off the collar, ears and above the eyes. Wedges, including mullets, where hair length changes significantly in one or more steps, are not permitted.
Girls’ hair must be neatly cut and groomed. Hair touching the collar or below must be tied back and off the face. Only narrow bands, ribbons, or hair ties in school colours (red or black) are permitted. Hair ribbons in House colours (white, green, blue, or yellow) may only be worn with the House shirt and/or on designated school carnival days. Extreme colour changing or styling is not acceptable. Natural colours that do not attract undue attention are acceptable.
Boys must be clean shaven.
Jewellery
Girls may wear one pair of small plain sleepers or studs (maximum 5mm - gold, silver or pearl) in the lower part of each ear.
Students may wear a watch. However, smartwatches with cellular coverage are not permitted.
No other jewellery is permitted when wearing the RGS uniform.
Cosmetics
No make-up is permitted to be worn. Eyelashes must be natural in colour and length. Eyelash extensions are not acceptable.
Visible tattoos are not permitted. Fingernails may only be coated with clear polish. Acrylic nails are not acceptable.
Requests for exemptions to the Dress and Appearance Guidelines due to personal or cultural reasons must be submitted in writing to the Deputy to the Headmaster.
