Rocky Mountain District Key Club International
Carol Wallander/Tony Perea Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award The Rocky Mountain District Key Club Board of Trustees has established the Carol Wallander/Tony Perea Outstanding Faulty Advisor Award as a way to reward and thank those faculty advisors who go above and beyond their duty in making Key Club in their high school prosper. This award is a way of thanking those faculty advisors who give so much of their time and themselves to assist our young leaders to excel in both academics and service. Carol Wallander was a long time faculty advisor at Rampart High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. For numerous years, she dedicated countless hours of time to Key Club at both the club and district levels. Mrs. Wallander retired from teaching in 1997 and this award was originally named for her as a way of keeping her love for Key Club alive and well in the Rocky Mountain District. In 2007, ten years after the award was established, another name joined Mrs. Wallander’s in the title; Tony Perea. In addition to coaching wrestling, football, basketball, track, and golf, as well as teaching Social Studies, Tony Perea was the Key Club Faculty Advisor at Monte Vista High School, Monte Vista, Colorado. He was completely devoted to his students, athletes, and Key Clubbers. He truly believed that all teenagers have voices and that they should be heard. Coach Perea never forgot about his students or Key Club. After his sudden death in January, 2007, the Rocky Mountain District of Key Club International added his name to the award, proving that we will never forget him.
